being a nancy drew fan I enjoy and appreciate every single one in the series. some of the games are better than others though, this being one of them. the puzzles were fun, challenging and I never really got frustrated with them like I do in other games in the series. It feels a little bit cliched being like the fourth setting in large castle or mansion like thing (treasure in the royal tower, black moore manor, and castle maloy), but still keeps an origonal tone when outside of the castle. you feel as if the monster could be near you at any moment outside of the castle. Although the German accents were a little cheasy, at most times they were very humerous so it didnt really bother me. the one thing I wish I could change about this game was the story and plot. When compared to many other games to the series, the plot just didn't live up to the great mystery plot twists and creative stories in the other games. I would suggest this game to anyone who enjoys casual games, mysteries or has played previous nancy drew games. I give it a 7/10 but only as a nancy drew fan. coming from the veiw of a more serious gamer or someone who isn't much of a casual game player, 6/10

I liked this game. It really captured the "Mystery" feel of interviewing suspects, gathering clues, and trying to piece together who-done-it.

I will mention that there was a *lot* of backtracking and re-visiting suspects. And occasionally you had nothing obvious to do, because you needed to be in a specific location to witness a specific event -- so wander around until something happens. Another negative is that the game has several challenges that aren't properly integrated as Steam achievements -- and no indication of what they are until after you have finished the game.

But if you are like Nancy Drew, this one is one of the better ones from that series.

Loved this game!! Probably played Raid and Monster way too much for my own good, but honestly this game had a lot of stuff to do which was usually entertaining. Sometimes I did have trouble figuring out what to do without outsourcing.

♥ Spooky spooky.

The first time I played Captive Curse, I was absolutely terrified.

Though the game firmly keeps with being family friendly, it does an excellent job of conveying the castle and its array of characters fear. From the dark atomsphere to the animal skull in the dungeon to the monster lurking outside the castle walls, replaying it gave me the shivers!

If you'd like to play a spookier Nancy Drew game, this one makes for a great choice.

♥ Love the mini games.

Usually I tend to skip the mini games unless they're directly related to clearing a task or two. Playing Raid? Killing cows in search of the hidden monster? Loved them! The two mini games added a great amount of replay value to the game. Admittedly I wouldn't mind if they made more of the mini games as fun as those two!

♥ Her Interactive stays true.

No matter how updated the graphics become or how much the budget expands, I always admire how Her Interactive keeps the Nancy Drew games with the spirit of the books. Only once have I ever felt that the game was without heart, without spirit, thankfully not with this title.

The Captive Curse is for sure fitting with Nancy Drew!

✘ Danger music while ... shopping?

I rarely play games with the audio enabled however Nancy Drew is an exception. The one trait of all Nancy Drew games I wish Her Interactive would change is music playing in the most unfitting scenes. Music can do a wonderful job of influencing a player's mood however danger music while in the gift shop? A heightened heart beat while making a phone call to Ned?

It always makes me laugh yet I do wish they would adjust it to play in sync with the proper scenes.

✘ Ned.

Is it only me or are others tired of the drawn out drama between Ned and Nancy? If Her Interactive wants to add a bit of emotional spice in Nancy's life, couldn't they involve Hannah, her father, Bes, George, or even the Hardy boys?

Ned feeling neglected is getting a bit stale. Toss the bread out!

✘ The layout is confusing.

It's a bit of a puzzle in itself to find your way around the castle & woods. Not only was it difficult to remember the way through ever twisting hallways, it turned into a major annoyance, especially since it took my time away from focusing on tasks and the actual story.

Overall Nancy Drew: The Captive Curse is a wonderful addition to the series and would settle in well in your Steam library! ~

I am a big fan of the Nancy Drew games, I have played almost half of them. The Captive Curse was good, the only problem I had with it was it had a little too many puzzles. I like puzzles, but not if you have to do one every 2 minutes. Also, it was very long and tiring, with a lot of hopelessly wandering around. Overall I would say a 7/10. Good game!

With this being one of the most recent Nancy Drew games, it was pretty cool to see how the creators went about having Nancy in Germany. The puzzles in this game were a bit more challenging compared to games like Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake and The Final Scene. It was also really unique to be able to earn money by playing the game Raid -- very interesting how the creators went about it. Also, compared to the classic, the colors are a lot more vibrant and really draw you in. The only thing that I found frustrating was the well puzzle, without a spoiler, you're looking at spending half and hour to a full hour trying to figure this puzzle out. I wouldn't recommend playing this game if you're just starting to refresh your sleuthing skills or if you're new to the Nancy Drew games. The more recent games such as Captive Curse have really stepped up their game with making things more challenging and difficult for players. Other than the well puzzle and possibly getting confused with the passageways, this a pretty interesting mystery game to play.

I thought that this game was a lot of fun with interesting cultural aspects and some folklore as well. The setting was appealing and fun to navigate and I thought that it was an enjoyable game. One of the better games in the series.

This game is the pinnacle of point-and-click gameplay, creating a truly riveting art experience for all players involved. I give it nine-and-a-half Nancies out of ten.

This was my first ever Nancy Drew game and now I'm hooked! I thought this game was going to be really corny and the characters looked silly, but i was intrugued by the German castle setting and i love point and click puzzle games which are so hard to find! I wasn't expecting much from the game and i was very pleased. Some of the puzzles i ended up looking up clues for online, but found if i would of just tried a little more i would of gotten them. But overall i found them challenging and fun. I liked many aspects of the game, which i think really sold it to me.

A little spoiler here* When i first entered the game my boyfriend(Nancy's) called me on my cell phone and it really put me in Nancy's shoes! I ended up really growing found of the characters some of the dialoge made me LOL, which is rare for me to laugh :). I loved the setting I really hope I get to see all the characters again especially Lucas! Also many aspects such as using and reusing tools where just really well done. Thank you for creating this wonderful game! I hope I never run out of Nancy Drew games!!

As far as Nancy Drew games go, this one was ok. It has an unusual story and the backdrop is quite similar to the Phantom of Venice. However the game itself is quite repetitive. The same puzzles are repeated throughout, so there is never any need to think too much about them.
Also, the game is quite dialogue heavy. Unlike others, the game takes a while to get going and I found most of the game being talking to the other characters.

Whilst playing, there were a few bugs as well. It froze a few times, so I would recommend saving it frequently. It also didn't display certain features. The ones I found were not integral to gameplay and progression, however it would've been nice to see them.

To conclude, I'm glad I played it. However, I probably won't be playing it again.

It was a good game. There were some parts that felt that may be too difficult to understand on what to do. but otherwise a great and intriguing game to play.

Another fun installment in the series. This one has some of the best puzzles yet, a bit less monotonous than the thematic puzzles of the "Water's Edge". Also, the mini-games are much more interesting, and they offer a nod to any Euro-style board game fans out there.

The dialog is great, with Lukas playing the part of Rentaro, this episode's cut-up. The accents can be a bit painful, but it's still well written.

The flow of the plot is a bit less smooth than the prior games, though. There is one puzzles that you can get all the clues to solve, but the solution doesn't work until the game "knows" you have the solution by doing things in a certain order. Also, there are lots of dialog blocks to progression that only unlock if specific things are found - which is normal stuff, but there are so many of these elements, there can be long stretches of wandering around looking for the thing you missed that will unlock a dialog you don't know you need to advance the plot.

All in all a good P&C mystery, though.

Nancy Drew is back! This case involves history, and delves deep into the background of the characters. Unfortunately, as far as these games go, there is less action because of this. Dialogue is important, but at least you aren't stuck playing games over and over again unless you want to. This case was not my least favorite, but not my favorite.

Easily one of the best Nancy Drew Games I have ever played. I've been playing these since I was a kid, so now, years later, I decided to pick them back up again and actually finish them (they can be very challenging). Captive has a great plot and intriguing characters with enjoyable puzzles that aren't too hard to complete. There's a fantastic setting with oh so many places to explore (I got lost like 10 times in the castle). The only complaint I would have is that it is far too simple to figure out who the culprit is. Other than that, this one was very much enjoyable and it easily ranks among my top three of these games (Deception and Shadow at the waters edge being the other 2)
