What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access provides us the best opportunity to reach the largest engaged audience possible. Having a passionate & invested community with a willingness to provide immediate feedback is key to our iterative design approach.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We estimate that, as of our Early Access release we are ~18 months away from a streamlined Core Module release (including time in Beta testing). It should be mentioned that unexpected items and delays can pop up during development that could alter this estimate; although we will do everything we can to minimize the impact of such events when/if they occur.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will include 3 unique playable ships as well as a hybrid scripted/dynamic single player campaign.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Rogue System is currently in a playable Alpha state with a single pilot-able ship & multiple scripted tutorial missions representing roughly 1/10 of the final game content.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We've offered Rogue System at a discount during its Early Access development, so the price should increase once we achieve a feature complete build.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will continue regular build releases & developer updates while soliciting community comment on bugs & features requests.”

Part 1 of Update 0.2.01.08 is Now Available

0.2.01.08p1 is now available. From the readme:

Again, this was an expectedly longer update cycle as this one was also very art intensive. Hence, update .08 is being broken up into two parts to reduce the wait time. This part one adds the in-game art for the new equipment bay area of the Flying Fox. To access it, simply float down the ladder shaft and into the equipment bay. Once there, you'll also see examples of the main breakers, isolation valve resets, and LSS scrubbers. You'll also find all the component racks for all of the system computers. In part two, the inital ability will be added to start working with this equipment, which will begin to unlock the ability to repair your ship.

Please note, it can be tricky to move around without the ability to control the roll of your character. I'll be adding this also for .08 part two.

And again, a reminder that this is an art update ONLY. Part two will contain new gameplay code.

As always, please see the change log full details; and, thanks for everyone's support!

Update 0.2.01.07a is Now Available

I knew this update was going to take a bit longer due to the art that had to be done for the new OPS satellite--my apologies for that. On that subject, there is now an Orbital Positioning System (OPS) for moons/planets that have orbiting OPS sats. Currently when within 10,000 km of one of these bodies, your ship will attempt to register with the local OPS. When it does, you can allow your sensor to use OPS data to select/target other ships (even when they would normally not appear on your sensor). When one of these registered ships is selected, you can bring up OPS data for it. This preliminary version of OPS includes a ship's hull data, register information, and orbital data (apoapsis, periapsis, etc). You can continue to track OPS-registered ships, even when on the far-side of the moon/planet. With this, you will have a far easier time finding ships when arriving to a new location.

The OPS sats had to be powered by SOMETHING other than batteries, hence the introduction of solar panels. I added functionality that will allow ship builders to tag polygons as solar panel surfaces. Once tagged, RogSys will determine their orientation relative to the local star, and then calculate how much power is generated at that moment. If a ship rolls its solar panels away from the star, they can not generate power.

With this same technology, I completely finalized the radiator implementation. Now, pointing your radiators away from the local star will greatly increase their efficiency. This worked well, so I was finally able to tweak the laser coolers so they act as originally intended--as supplimental / emergency cooling. Your radiators are now your primary cooling source. Take some time and learn what configurations to use, and when.

On another note, Roberto (the person who designed the OPS sat) is now working on the EVA suit, so you can expect to be doing some space walking in the near future. For the next update though, I'm going to start work on the Flying Fox's equipment bay....

About This Game

Rogue System's goal is to depict the possibilities of space exploration and combat within a realistic environment--choosing not to ignore the "science" in science-fiction. Key features do/will include proper orbital mechanics for all objects in space; detailed ship system control, functionality, inter-dependency and damage reaction; and the ability to move freely from one ship to another, EVA, and effect repairs while in flight.

Rogue System’s Core Module (CM) will be a complete campaign-driven sim on its own. It utilizes both dynamic as well as scripted missions to allow for greater replay-ability while telling an intriguing story.

Finally, Rogue System is fully moddable, allowing both DCI as well as the sim’s community to add new ships, missions, and even campaigns.

Later, Extension Modules (EM) will add even more gameplay.

System Requirements

    Minimum:
    • OS: Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, or 10
    • Processor: 2.0 ghz dual core
    • Memory: 2 GB RAM
    • Graphics: 1GB Nvidia or AMD, supporting at least OpenGL 4.0. Latest drivers for either are absolutely required. WARNING: Intel HD Graphics are currently NOT supported.
    • Storage: 2 GB available space

So you've successfully started up the A-10C in DCS and flew it around. Congratulations.

But what if...what if I told you that there is an A-10C in space, cold and dark and ready for you to get it started? How does that make you feel?
If the answer is "excited", or at least "intrigued", then you've found the game for you.

Rogue System's ships are not quite like the A-10 yet, in fact what we have now is a support ship(with functional space claw, to boot!) and not a warship. But there are other two spaceships planned that are fighters and bombers, and who knows how much else if we get to the expansion modules.
The ships' system will be fully simulated, down to electrical buses breaking and leaving you with no power even though the reactor is still happily producing it. Orbital mechanics will be respected. Star systems will be to scale(yes, we do have time compression).
In short, this is sci-fi as hard as you can get without signing up as an astronaut.

Be advised this is still very much in its early phase. We get some basic tutorials, a test mission to save a space station from uncontrolled deorbiting, and a free flight scenario where we play with the ship in a single star system. Start it up correctly and head to another planet, or mess the systems up until it explodes, it's our call).

Eventually we'll have a full single-player campaign with three different ship types and multiple star systems. This is guaranteed. Then there are Elite-like freelancer, first person combat, and multiplayer expansions planned that will come if the game has enough success.

The best part? All of this is currently being developed by one person(Michael Juliano), who has already done an amazing job. Think how better it can get once dedicated help can be hired!

So if any of this interests you, get this early release now. It's the best investment you can make :)

WARNING:
The System Requirements in Steam specify this already, but just in case you didn't notice....
If you have an Intel video/graphics card, don't bother trying to run the game or complaining when it doesn't. There are technical limitations for it, the developer is aware and will eventually address the problem, but for now Intel Video = No Go. Sorry.

Rogue system is a space ship SIMULATOR. No I didn't just accidently hit caps lock. It's in caps as this is the what the game is. It's more like DCS and Kerbal space program than it is space games like Elite, X series, Star Citizen and No Man's Sky. There isn't a game like this and it fills a niche in the market for a realistic, highly detailed, complex and rewarding space ship study simulator.

The game is currently in Alpha so it's still in development. There's only a couple of tutorials, a mission and a sandbox to faff in. There's only one ship currently. Even so this is something special and if the game sounds interesting to you I highly recommend giving it a try.

Absolutely amazing! ZERO loading screens, NO crash to desktop, challenging, BEAUTIFUL to look at, and an incredible experience!

I have no qualms about getting behind this gem, as you get a great sense for what the future holds in Rogue System, shortly after getting through a few minutes of the first tutorial!

Think of it as a Flight Simulator X, modern space edition!

Go ahead, try docking, get back to me! :)

Love it!

I bought Rogue System from ISI a year ago and have been dipping into RS on and off since then. It's great to see it get more exposure on Steam. As a Space Sim fan since Wing Commander and I-war I can safely say this is the most immersive space ship flying simulator there is. The atmosphere the game evokes is perfect. When you hear the satisfying click of a button, you can hear the coolant flowing through the pipes, reactants being expelled and the ship comes alive.

There is nothing like this on the market at the moment. A first person KSP with pre-produced ships and a hard sci-fi approach to flying them scratches a nerd itch I didn't know I had.

Having said that the game is only produced by one developer and is a bit bare bones in terms of volume of content. The interactive systems are what you are going to buy this for now though. I cannot wait to see how the game grows from here.

Tldr: A certified reccommendation for Space Sim fans with a hardcore realistic streak.

This game is fantastic, the best way to describe what it's trying to accomplish, is kinda like DCS + Orbiter. The simulation is really accurate and painstainkly realistic, the physics are fantastic, and it tries REALLY hard to stick to current tech + what we realisticly think future tech will look like, ie: Ressonant Cavity Thrusters (check out this link if you want to learn more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RF_resonant_cavity_thruster).

However, bear in mind that this game is in early access for a reason! it's currently rather feature slim and as of now there's not much to do other then mess around with your ship and do orbital flight + transfers.

Despite this, I would like to say that this game is already REALLY fun and enjoyable, the developer (who might I mention is extreamly active on both readdit and the offical forums) also has a fantastic and very detailed road map layed about about what he wants to do based on how well the game does on steam,

I've had this game since a month after it was first purchasable on their site, and I must say the purchase was 100% worth it! You can see the love and care the dev puts into this title and the progress is extreamly visible and tangilble.

--------------

All in all I recommend this game to anyone that wants a in-depth sim expirances of what future space flight could verry well turn out to be like and wants to watch this game grow into something amazing!

Best way to describe it is DCS World, but in space. About as realistic as a scifi space sim can get, as far as systems (ie, electrical, propulsion, control etc) go. Better brush up on your orbital mechanics. Much more enjoyable with a joystick & throttle with lots of buttons to map to.

Edited. Finally.... Edited again

how did i compleate tutorials:

tutorial 1 -"why are all the panels turn red color and alarm goes on?! i just pressed an button!"- the next second ship melts down

tutorial 2 -"yaaay, that maneuver trusters are so fast, wahaha" - all secondary electronics and coolant get destroyed due to overload. Main reactor overheats and i panic and decide to eject reactor and thrusters so ship doesent explode. now the ship has no main power source and all the batteries and fuel cell generators are destroyed, now it's a flying lightless brick with no chance to even send a distress signal

tutorial the manual startup - well it was a manual f#k up

tutorial the manual shutdown - just like startup, but with less start

tutorial i_dont_know_how_it's_called  -"i have played KSP, i dont need no damn autopilot to help me with stabilization!"- YOU SPIN ME RIGHT ROUND BABY RIGHT ROUND

tutorial about interplanetary travel - at least i managed to ram the stantion at warp 10 speed

so many dumb ways to die...

ok, now im serious

The best realistic space simulator for me that i managed to find. You are in total controll of a space ship. But for now there are not much to do for a regular player, so here's the list of cases when i would recomend you buy this game

  • You often wonder around the internet in search for a realistic simulator of some hard to control thing, and every time you get upset because all you find is some space-background generic shooter with "simulator" tag. Then buy this, you won't find another game that will fulfill your need for realism. Thrust me, I'm the Doctor

  • You like Star Trek
    • You would like to work with Scotty

  • You like watching Scott Manley's channel

  • You often search for a game like KSP but without K and with more realism, but Orbiter has too weird controls and old graphics (British scientists proven: graphics in simulators are important)

  • When watching a sci-fi movie, you love watching the technology in that movue

  • You know about space physics a bit more than TV programs on channels like Discovery told you, and you want to test your knowledge

  • You like "sitting" in captains chair and feeling important by pressing buttons. The game has that compleately covered

  • You want to improve your understanding of how planes/orb.mechanics/ship systems work

  • You prefer indie games instead of generic AAA class games because of their originality

and here is the cases in which i wouldn't recomend this game:

  • You cant dock in KSP. Im serious. Docking here is harder for now, as there is only 3 data types that you can get on your target: visual appearance; distance; relative speed. No orbit prediction, quicksaves, and other stuff. So your gameplay will be limited to learning and messing with ship systems, which is also not so bad

  • You dont like unfinished games.

  • You think that shooter is the best and only good genre in games. I've seen those people, they are scary

  • You dont like waiting. There is moments where you just need to wait, like docking. If you try docking fast, aside from making Stantion Trafic Control crew cry, you would also find it a very bad decision

  • Most important one - you are not slightly interested in any kind of technical/physical/computer science.
if this case == true, than you would find this game as a toy for nerds

But i can tell 1 thing for sure, this game is something new in this genre. Just like "SUPER HOT" in shooter genre, but a bit more innovative. And as every early access, it comes with bugs

And the developer is great! he keeps everyone in touch of what he is going to do with the game next, and will try to reply to threads. I havent seen that good interraction with community anywhere else!

i hope i help you to find out will you be interested or not

It's basicly set up like a high quality flight simulator, but in space. Every button is clickable and serves a purpose, and if done in the wrong order will cause system failures. The orbital dynamics are spot on. The one ship (so far) is set up very well to learn on, and the tutorials are of good quality. There isn't much to do, but the syastem available is well done and is fun to just buzz around. Definately looking forward to what gets added.

I would definately recomend this for anyone who love flight sims and space sims.

I watched this game for a long time before I committed to backing it. I love the idea of the game; but what persuaded me to commit was my perception of the developer, Michael. His intent is to make a spaceship game with integrity, based on real world physics, and technology that can be scientifically plausible.

He goes the whole way--what can only be described as the hardcore way--ship systems with actual functionality, interactions and dependencies, in space that is correctly simulated with actual full Newtonian flight and orbital mechanics. You need to learn how to operate your ship and actually pilot it. This is not an arcade game, and I love it for that reason.

This is a "game" that I can take seriously, and that is a great achievement. For me, it goes beyond fun. It gives me a satisfaction and enjoyment that only a hardcore spaceship game can bring; and I love it more for that reason.

This is early access and it is feature light at the moment I am writing this. Seeing how this game has developed, and is developing, I am totally looking forward to the finished Core Module and then the later Expansion Modules.

I can only recommend this game to you. If you want to play a game that is unique, sets a very high standard for realistic space flight, and models spaceships with unrivalled functionality, then Rogue System is the game for you.

A very promising and solid button pushing, hardcore space simulator.
Very barebone at its current state, for now you can just start the engines, dock and travel. And push buttons.

Very steep learning curve, very unforgiving. That's always a plus.

Oh, what does this shiny button do?

This is a early access review.

This has the bones of a really good game. I can not tell you how much i've longed for a space sim that requires more than just press button A and fly. I've got the start up sequance down pat. I can undock.
at the moment there is not much more to do. fly from planet to moon and back and redock. no tquite managed that yet.
This game promises much and time will see if it delivers.
is it worth the price??
Yes with a BIG but... if you like a full on simulator where every button has a function, where not following the right proceedure can result in catastophic faulure, just try powering up the plama injectors with out engaging EMP sheilding.
Then this game is for you. but be warned there is not much to hold your attention once you have learnt to start up, dock and shutdown. Hopefully this will change

ALPHA! So don't expect much. I bought it without thinking twice due to the fact that this is the direction that I want gaming to go in. So I voted with my dollar. So far the most awesome feature is the tutorial due to the insane complexity of all the switches and systems.
After ship damage and combat gets added it will be INSANE.

I can easily see this becoming the future of gaming.

Rogue System is basically a hard core DCS style simulator set in space. You get a very complex ship full of systems and sub-system which need to be carefully managed and it can be quite overwhelming at the beginning. But if you are familiar with the avionics of most serious flight sims you will get the hang of it eventually.

The thing I really dig about this simulator is that its effective tutorials explain and teach you how everything works rather quickly. You won't need to study a complex manual for days before being able to do anything.

Still, it is definitely *not* for the casual gamer and I think it is best suited to those people who found Elite Dangerous a little too simplistic. You are going to push lots of buttons here and learn all the procedures you could dream of.

I was in the system limiter range.
I had to turn MTS off and turn it to cold gas.

I turned the MTS's shield off first, this was a horrable idea.
everything started to overheat, I got errors on everything, and overtemp warnings.
I tried to fix this, then, it went dark. My batteries failed, and my LENR overheated and failed.

10/10 would not succesfully shut down again.
