Mac/OSX build; Pre-release beta!

Greetings noble Janitors!

In preparation for an official Mac release, we've updated the beta build.
If you happen to already have the game and a Mac, you can give it a try.
You can check out how to access it in this thread:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/246900/discussions/0/604941528487326270/?ctp=20
Just simply enter the password on the Steam client, and download the build.

If all goes well, we'll release the build as an official port.

One thing to note however, is that the build is unfortunately lacking some important features we've been unable to get working, not from a lack of trying...
Alas, we'll have to make do.

The following features are missing/buggy from/with the port:

  • Steam Achievements
  • Steam Multiplayer
  • Cross Platform MP
  • Xbox Controller Support(Might work for your system, I couldn't get it working on mine; OSX, etc)
  • Reverb sound effects in levels
  • Sometimes you have to force-quit to close the game
We also cannot guarantee normal MP between Macs will work. We've been unable to test it, so if you discover that it does in fact work, excellent!

Other than that, the game works pretty well. All the important parts of the actual gameplay run fine(as near as we can tell).
The DLC, HoH will also be made available after release.

Of course, the idea behind the beta tests is to confirm that everything is as we expect, and that there aren't other problems we've yet to consider.

So, if you can, give it a try. Otherwise just wait for the official release; if nothing utterly calamitous occurs.
Thanks.

Update v1.09 live!

Greetings all you hard-working Janitors!
And to the not so hard-working slackers, shame on you! *Airlock opening in 3...2...1..WOOSH*

For those of you still with us. We have an another update!

v1.09 brings with it some general fixes and improvements, as well as some additions for workshop creators.

Nothing truly fascinating, I'm afraid, but important nonetheless.

Read on for the full list:

    Game:
  • Fixed collected Trophies not being lost when you get fired and then use the "quit" command to exit.
  • Fixed Player Gibs not using level-specific overlay masks; HoH Bones & Santa Gloves + Boots

    Multiplayer:
  • Fixed Trunk contents not appearing in the trunk when clients first connect.
  • Disabled File Transfers when connecting to games that have content you do not.

    Santa's Rampage:
  • Fixed items in the Janitor Trunk counting against the Sanitized Earth achievement. Trunk Contents no longer matter, and neither do Brooms.
  • Fixed collected elves snapping upright when loading up the Janitor Office.
  • Fixed elf corpses sometimes snapping upright when loading a saved-game.

    Workshop:
  • Made it possible to toggle interactive consoles on/off(Enabled/Disabled) using the Kimset Toggle action.
  • Made it possible to create custom punch-out company notices, hate-mail, inspection reports and employee of the month pictures for use with your levels.

And on that note, there probably won't be much in the way of updates moving forward. If possible, some more stubborn issues will be fixed, but otherwise the only thing coming in the near future is an update to the OSX Beta build. We hope to have that ready next week.

Until then, enjoy everyone!

“You know what I really love about violence? Dealing with the consequences! That’s why I’m so excited to see that Viscera Cleanup Detail, the space station janitor simulation, is now available on Steam Early Access.”

“By setting its mundane stall in the days after events that would be taken oh-so-seriously in another game, Viscera Cleanup Detail manages to be morbidly hilarious without ever telling a single joke.”

About This Game

Disaster! An alien invasion and subsequent infestation have decimated this facility. Many lives were lost, the facility was ruined and the aliens were unstoppable. All hope was lost until one survivor found the courage to fight back and put the aliens in their place!
It was a long and horrific battle as the survivor dueled with all manner of terrifying life-forms and alien mutations, but our hero won out in the end and destroyed the alien menace! Humanity was saved!

Unfortunately, the alien infestation and the heroic efforts of the courageous survivors have left rather a mess throughout the facility. As the janitor, it is your duty to get this place cleaned up.
So grab your mop and roll up your sleeves, this is gonna be one messy job.
Today, you're on Viscera Cleanup Detail!

Key Features

  • Janitorial Simulation - Step into the boots of a space-station sanitation technician and deal with the horrific aftermath of a sci-fi horror event. Blood, viscera, spent cartridges, worker bodies and other messes litter the facilities.
  • Clean - It's your job to clean up the mess, so clean it up you shall! Use your trusty mop, gloves, dispenser machines, plasma laser and sniffer tool to help you get all that blood out of the floor and off the ceiling! You can even try and punch-out if you think you've done your job.
  • Sandbox Gameplay - Don't want to clean? Just want to make more of a mess and play around with the physics? Go ahead! You can save your game as well; that's kind of us!
  • Multiplayer - You can even enlist some friends/coworkers to come and help you clean up (or make even more mess). Split-screen co-op is available too!

this is a really fun game. if you don't mind the gore and have some friends this is a game you should get.
if i had to add one thing in i would add a rondom player option so you could play with random people. since there is a chat that no one uses thanks to tecnology it would be a fun way to meet friends and get stuff done faster.

Viscera Cleanup Detail is an OCD persons dream.

The goal of the game is to clean up bodies and parts, blood, monster pieces and all evidence from a variety of maps, which are homages to old movies like Predator and The Thing.

I wouldn't have thought it would be so much fun to clean up after monster/zombie/alien attacks, but it IS.

There are lots of little easter eggs to the old monster movies as well, in the form of noises, body placement in the environment, and notes detailing what happened.

I would recommend this game to anyone wanting to try it ON sale.

Bought this game since it looked interesting and the cleaning helped reduce my panicked states by a lot; works best with a good podcast playing in the background (I rec EOS 10 while doing the Evil Science level)

Ever wondered who cleaning up the mess in games like Serious Sam, Shadow Warrior or DOOM after you eliminated every living organism on the map? This game is the answer!

Positive points

Graphics
- Pretty sweet and the graphic style fit perfectly to this game.
- Sometimes the lights are a bit too extreme

Gameplay
- Simple mechanics but pretty much fun. I dont really know why I enjoy cleaning a virtual room while I hate cleaning in real life o_o
- The "Cleaning machines can spit out limbs and ♥♥♥♥" mechanic is something I really hate... just no!

Maps
- I like the variation of the maps. Different themes with many easter eggs and around 20 maps on count is not bad.

Neutral points

Multiplayer
- Well multiplayer seems to be pretty dead. Playing with random people is a rare phenomenon. If I imagine how MP would be played by the players I can just think about a LOT of trolls ♥♥♥♥ing things up all the time so..
- This game can be pretty much fun on LAN parties or if you play with friends especially if you are drunk =D

Negative points

Bugs
- Over the time there were many bug fixes but still there is a problem with objects glitching around. Objects can glitch under the map so you can complete the map, objects glitches through your boxes or the incinerator. Can be very frustrating cause all your work was useless in this case.
- Cleaning machine sometimes just stop working so you can restart the map.

Miscellaneous
- On some maps there is dirt/blood on the blanket of the map so you have to build a tower with your boxes which is a very, VERY frustrating task.
- My progress and my settings was reseted so many times..

Conclusion
Funny game which you can play from time to time. Fun factor increasing when you play it with friends. One of the few games which started as Early Access game on steam and made it to a complete game. The game is time intensive and can frustrated you sometimes but overall it is much more fun than cleaning your home in real life!

It's bizarre how fun this game is. If I told you "Take this spacemop and clean this entire hallway of dead bodies, alien corpses, individual bullet casings, soda cans, entrails, scorchmarks, etc and then write a report on what happened after you're done", you'd probably cringe.

Not in this game; I spent an hour cleaning every single thing I found, throwing the bodies into the incinerator, picking up gubbins and shoving them into a biohazard bin and then throwing the said bin into the incinerator, grabbing a laser-gun-what-do-you-call-it and sealing dozens and dozens of bullet holes and finally writing a report for extra points because why not. It was so satisfying to get 110% and the "Employee of the Month" award.

Which I promptly tore off the wall and placed on a shelf in the basement after cleaning it from all the bits of gore the last guy left and made it my impromptu trophy room.

If you have a lot of time in your hands, try it; You probably won't be disappointed.

When your parents walk in on you it is very difficult to explain the concept of the game, and they will look at you like you're mentally ill.

Back in the day (before I came to college and found myself perpetually broke) I spent money on this and about twelve other games I thought I'd never play. Oddly enough, Viscera is actually fun, and I appreciate the subtle dark humor of the game. Definitely worth the money. Not sure if it's worth the time I've spent procrastinating my assignments though, throwing around biohazardous alien remains and whatnot.

I have no idea why on earth this game has such positive reviews, it is extremely dull and boring, the control options don't work properly, the performance is terrible, the object manipulation is extremely clunky and poorly designed, the mechanics are terrible (buckets particularly), you have an incredibly slow walk speed and you just randomly switch between running and sprinting depending on a hidden stamina bar, the control pads are far too small by default and you cant read anything but if you set them too large everything clips through the screen. This was in coop as well

I literally don't understand. Is this entire thing a joke?

Fun for a while, but gets annoying quickly. Get it on sale. Not worth the full price.

You'd think after 9 iterations they'd have the collision right, but it's seriously broken, in many cases you will find yourself being propelled by other physics enabled objecs, resulting in knocking down things that you might want not to.

There is no tutorial, figure it out yourself, or more importantly use the wiki. Things that don't appear to be trash turn out to be trash. Like toxic waste barrels being undeterminate, at least I couldn't figure out if I was supposed to burn them or not.

You may also find yourself spending a good deal of time and thinking that it's all clean, only to see that you've got only 92% completion of the room. For example I spent 2 hours in the sewers making the place spotless, while letting the envornment to play pinball with me. Punching out got me demoted, and apparently 92% is the bare minimum. There is no way to go back, you gotta do it all over again if you want to get those last nooks and crannies.

Either way, the novelty of the idea wears off quickly, as you have too few tools at your disposal. A lack of convenience is just strange really, what, they don't have hoses in the future? Water is pretty hard to get for a game based on cleaning. You have to run around to get a bucket, bring it to your designated cleaning spot, only to find out that 5 swipes is all it takes for the bucket to be useless. Now go and burn it (yeah cuz it's so intuitive to dispose of dirty water in the fkin incinerator), get a new one, and rinse and repeat. Stacking more than a few of these also doesn't seem to be very productive, since everything launches you left and right, it's highly likely that you will spill your dirty water and just have to clean everything again.

The lack of tools becomes very obvious when you start looking for bullet casings. Prepare to have to pick them up one by one. Don't expect a vacuum cleaner or anything, a janitor may have a garbage scanner (that simply beeps, what it is that you have to throw out is anyones guess, since I've had it beep in an empty corridor), but a vacuum cleaner would be asking for too much. In fact, I'd rather clean my own room, since you can use the comforts of life.

Music is good and the sounds are nice and visceral. The gore is satisfying, though I mostly found myself desiring to play as the guy who did all the carnage.

Other than that, I can't say more. I see an effort, there is mod supports and custom maps, but as far as I'm concerned this is an average game. It looks good, but it plays average. My recommendation is to get it on sale.

It would be a grat game to drown out and lsten to podcasts to, or if you feel like doing something mindless, if it didn't casue my computer to crash every couple of hours. Not just the game, the entire computer. Had to refund becasue I'm not playing a game that crashes every 20 minuites or so. That's a pretty big game breaking bug, hopefully it will be fixed and I will be able to play the game, becasue the gameplay was quite mindless and strangly absorbing.

I would not recommend this game. After receiving this game as a gift long ago I couldnt even play it due to the unbdearable lag. Unfortunately my PC broke and I couldnt play this game on the mac due to it being PC only. I logged on one day to see that there was a public mac beta going so I tried to join. I did everything I was told to do and nothing worked. I couldnt install the game and received no help whatsoever from the developers. Its almost been a year since then and they havent fixed it. I know its still early acess, but why havent they even attempted to resolve my issue? If you have a PC, go for it. But if you are unfortunate enough to own a mac, dont bother purchasing it until it works because you might be stuck in the same boat as me.
