This game does not have any fancy features like deep character customization, lots of perks and skills, non-linear story or revolutionary role-playing mechanic. But, come on, give it a chance!
So, what are pros and cons about playing "Mad Nords"?

+ it's funny. Yeah, you probably won't see anything extraordinaty, but I'm sure that this game will make you smile in the end of the hard week;
+ it has lots of... uhm... weird equipment you definitely haven't seen yet. Giant nail as an armor? Cheat scroll instead of sword? You personall accessory-dwarf? All these are quite common in the "Mad Nords";
+ it's not a Dragon age game, so you wont be saving the world... or would you? Maybe, you will, but your reasons to act will be simple and common for most of the people;
+ fighting system is both dynamic and easy-to-use. If you've played Deep Dungeons of Doom, you know, what I mean.

- lots of dungeons. Actually, it's a joke about those old-school RPGs where you had to spent hours in mines, caves etc. and it works for you if you like dungeons, but it totally didn't work for me;
- balance. If you don't know, how to pick the locks, you'll miss 80% of loot and some quests. And it's fine when you have other ways to earn money or to finish the quest, but most of the times you'll have only one option to end the quest. I've finished the early-access version of the game without buying anything except some healing poitions, so... maybe you don't really need money in this game;
- there is almost no difference in choosing necromancer or brut class cause you'll not get any extra content for that, nor you will have to change your way of playing. Yeah, your skill tree will be different, but there are only 5 skills in it.

Conclusion: play "Mad Nords" if you want to relax and have some fun playing a game, that does not try to f**k your brains with ultrahard meachincs and storyline.

Pulsing Through Your Games.

Pros:
  • – Unique Combat system. For example, time dodging and knowing when to dodge at the right time against enemies.
  • – Good selection of classes to choose I personally like the Cannibal
  • – Handy auto save which has saved me so many times. (Devs can you stop it from saving when doing boss fights as it’s so annoying to have to keep fighting a boss you can not beat.)
  • – Love the name of weapons like speed old shoe (I think it was called.)
  • – Funny voices for characters are adults but talk like kids.
  • – The humour in the game is very well done I did have a nice laugh at it.
  • – The map is massive I’ve only found 8 – 9 places but for early access there are a lot.
  • – Funky music.
  • – Good selection of options like changing controls but sadly no controller support plus the full screen option can you have it to fit the whole monitor not black outlines.

Please don’t take these cons so seriously as the Devs may change some of my cons in the future after Early Access Review
Cons:
  • – Can get a little repetitive but the story makes up for it.
  • – Better tutorial system.
  • – Have recommended levels before fighting the boss because it’s a pain when you don’t know what rank is good enough.
  • – Have more abilities plus I have no clue what the rouge 1st ability no idea on it like what it does.

    Conclusion:
    This game is so different from games I play and I’m happy I had the chance to play it, if you can fix up some cons like steam integration it make it better but above all for early acess this is pretty good for its money.

Short Version: If Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett had teamed up to make Skyrim for the Super Nintendo waaay back in the 1990s, the end result would have been... well, probably terrible, as neither of them were game developers. Luckily they never tried, so the developers of Mad Nords were free to unleash their own silly version of this nifty mashup on the world.

Mad Nords: Probably an Epic Quest is a retro-styled RPG that features weird, quirky humor along with the open world and quest-branching system of an Elder Scrolls or Fallout game. The player starts out as a level 1 cannibal/bureaucrat/(insert unusual class of choice) looking for a cucumber for his wife in the next town over. Of course, this simple fetch quest won't be as easy as it should be, and so begins the main questline.

As you are continually redirected to new locations to continue with your main, cucumber-seeking quest, the overwhelming temptation to fall into the usual RPG standard of speaking to every person and breaking into every house will eventually get the better of you. A few hours later, you'll realize that you've explored several towns and dungeons, completed a dozen sidequests, and geared yourself up with a stupendous bladed fork of +3 strength and 15% critical chance - but never really got any closer to finding that cucumber. Which is just as it should be, as any player who has spent hundreds of hours on an Elder Scrolls game without actually beating the main quest can tell you.

Mad Nords' retro graphics and strange sense of humor are pleasantly enjoyable, making this game a fun way to while away a Saturday morning. The game offers an abundance of fairly amusing quests, plenty of magical loot, and quite a few useful skills to invest in as you level to offer some RPG-progression. Each starting class also features a few unique skills, which adds variety and even replayability if you want to try a different character. I do not know how much content the end product will have (this is an Early Access title), but I do know that I came nowhere close to finding my cucumber after several hours of playtime.

Conclusion:
Mad Nords is an entertaining parody of open-world questing with a very reasonable pricetag. I would definitely recommend trying out this quirky game if you get a chance.

Well, what can I say about this game? At first I wasn't expecting much of it. It's an early access release after all. But I was surpised how much content was put into it. And I still haven't ran into any bugs. In early access game.

You should definitely give it a try if you like oldschool RPG's and humor.

Somewhere the water chip is looked for, and here it is a cucumber for wife. Pretty RPG, fulfilled with dialogs and references.
On my taste, drawing is strange, but cute.
Nine characters will improve replayability, though accessibility of one or another capability becomes freaking annoying. So, thoose, who remember good-old RPG's spirit - like Fallout 1-2 - should have a dip into Mad Nords)

//А теперь на русском:

Greatest RPG parody I've ever seen! You won't find so many easter eggs in any oter game (exept the Retro Citi Rampage, I think). But this game is only in early accesss, so I am waiting for more funny quests, awesome characters, and some gameplay improovements. I thought this is just a game for an hour, but already playin 2 hours and hadn't explored even a 20% of the early access map.

VERDICT - 9/10
Story - 9/10
Humour - 10/10
Combat - 7/10 (a bit repetitive, but this is the EA game, maybe this is not my style of battles)
Graphics - 8/10 (it's not a pixelart masterpiece, but it has a well crafted clunky unique style)
SFX - 10/10 (8-bit epic music is so good that I want to download the OST)

A price is to high for an unfinished 2d pixel RPG, but I totally recomend to add it to your WISHLIST and BUY ON SALE.

Absolutely crazy and humorous in everything, sometimes Pratchett-esque, sometimes outright absurdish, from character classes (including such pearls as Bureaucrat and Cannibal) and skills to items (how about a boot that is not a piece of armour, but a weapon or a jar full of parasites) and monsters (just check out the snapshot with the giant's leg). Lots of good laugh is guaranteed! Also "voiceovers" are hilarious on their own.

Mechanics-wise it is an RPG (leaning more to JRPGs) where you control a single character. You travel around the big world map visiting towns and locations of interest in pursuit of what starts with a quest for a water chip few cucumbers.

Dialogues are pretty straightforward, but they are funny and there are plenty of unobtrusive moral choices, if you are into those. Quite often you need a certain level of particular attribute or skill to bring the talks to a successful conclusion.

Fights are reaction-based (e.g. you might want to use the block skill at the right moment), and not very difficult, but give you some food for thought regarding how to develop your hero.

Then there are dungeons filled with traps, occasionally requiring some fast reaction as well (think darts and blades and disappearing floors), but thankfully never to the point of frustration.

Overall, the game is very solid and definitely entertaining. Just don't forget to bring your sense of humour.

Looking forward for Act III.

What I like most about Mad Nords gameplay is how open and organic the world feels. I am in love with the feeling of freedom I get combined with the tongue-in-cheek narrative and quests. Combine with the solid rpg mechanics of skills and abilities (bureaucrat rogue in this Mad Nords playthrough) and this is one of the best classic-style rpgs I've played in a long while. The only thing I find a little tiresome is recovering between fights. This makes grinding a little arduous but it's kind of in the spirit of things and isn't ruinous.

So I sat down to play a few minutes of the game to check out the game play. ---- 2 hours later --- I had to get something to drink while doing so I looked at the clock.

The game is funny and addicting that you just get drawn in like a good old school rpg. I felt like just one more quest, wait one more dungeon, wait one more thing then 12 side quests later 5 towns and then your like great what was I doing? oh yeah I need a robe. Okay get robe then 5 more side quest 3 more towns wait what am I doing again. Ah never mind, what is behind door # 1.

Great game. It is a must buy, A must own if you like old school games or like pixel art games. Or you just like GOOD games.

But don't just take my word for it; take a look at all the other reviews of the game.

Nice and cozy indie rpg game with charming humor and crazy characters. It's really role-playing, not every rpg has this ability these days :) And you can speak with the animals! 8 woof-woof out of 10
