Announcing Hacknet - Labyrinths

Hacknet - Labyrinths

Join a small team of elite hackers pulling off a complex series of data heists in Hacknet Labyrinths, a major expansion for Hacknet.
Adding a new 3-4 hour chapter to the game, Hacknet Labyrinths sees you recruited by the mysterious Kaguya to join a small team of elite hackers on the hunt for powerful new tools and programs.

But working with the best isn’t going to be easy. And as the series of heists increases in complexity and danger, you’re going to need to use everything at your team’s disposal to get in, get the job done, and get out.

Featuring new tools--such as the Memory Analyzer, capable of performing memory forensics on RAM--new programs, new networks to explore, new UI themes, new secrets to uncover in the original game, and a full new soundtrack, Labyrinths delivers more of the gameplay you loved in Hacknet along with some surprising new twists.

Coming late this year.

COMING SOON: HACKNET - LABYRINTHS EXPANSION

http://store.steampowered.com/app/521840/

Hacknet - Labyrinths is a major expansion for Hacknet, which will add a new, 3-4 hour chapter to the game, new tools and programs, a new soundtrack and new secrets seeded throughout the original game.

We're hard at work on Labyrinths at the moment and are aiming to launch it before the end of 2016.

To make sure you don't miss the release, please visit the store page and wishlist it so that you are notified when it launches.

Updated Roadmap

Here is the roadmap for the new content and updates I am working on..

Localisation

Localisation is now complete for French, German, Spanish, Russian, and Korean. We’re hoping to add more languages and if you are eager to help with translating, please let me know on matt [@] hacknet-os.com!

Expansion

I’m well under way with the expansion and am super excited about the way it’s going. The expansion will be integrated into the existing game adding around 3-5 hours of gameplay, some interesting new programs, tonnes of new computers, servers, contracts, and some hidden surprises along the way. We’re planning to sell the DLC for US$5 and expect it to launch in late 2016.

Mod Support

I now have a prototype system that will allow modders to create and share Hacknet stories and custom missions easily. These tools are currently being tested by a select group of modders and game developers. We plan to launch mod support for free alongside the launch of the DLC expansion in late 2016.

Multiplayer

many people in the community have been asking for multiplayer and I’m experimenting with various models for this. I've got some pretty crazy ideas, and this is something that I will be exploring and releasing later this year as a free update.

About This Game

Hacknet is an immersive, terminal-based hacking simulator for PC. Dive down a rabbit hoIe as you follow the instructions of a recently deceased hacker, whose death may not have been the accident the media reports. Using old school command prompts and real hacking processes, you’ll solve the mystery with minimal hand-holding and a rich world full of secrets to explore.

Bit, a hacker responsible for creating the most invasive security system on the planet, is dead. When he fails to reconnect to his system for 14 days, his failsafe kicks in, sending instructions in automated emails to a lone user. As that user, it’s up to you to unravel the mystery and ensure that Hacknet-OS doesn't fall into the wrong hands.

Exploring the volatile nature of personal privacy, the prevalence of corporate greed, and the hidden powers of hackers on the internet, Hacknet delivers a true hacking simulation, while offering a support system that allows total beginners get a grasp of the real-world applications and commands found throughout the game.

Features

Real Hacking
Based on actual UNIX commands, Hacknet focuses on real hacking, not the Hollywood-style version of it. This creates a truly immersive experience and puts players right in the thick of trying to break through the firewalls.

Unlock the mystery of Bit
A hacker is dead and the media reports don’t add up. When you are contacted by his “ghost” - an automated failsafe system - you’re drawn into the dark and murky world of underground hackers.

Full immersion
You are thrust into a persistent virtual world with no “levels” or obvious game elements to break the illusion. Follow the guidance of the emails from Bit or just dive down the rabbit hole, chasing down clues and snippets of information you find as you explore different systems.

Accessible but uncompromising
Whilst not holding your hand or dumbing down, the design of the game and the learning curve enables those with no prior terminal experience to enjoy it whilst delighting those in the know.

Killer tunes
Hack to the beat of a soundtrack featuring underground artists including Carpenter Brut (Hotline Miami) and Remi Gallego (AKA The Algorithm).
Soundtrack produced in association with The Otherworld Agency.

First hacking game i ever played and i can proudly say that this was a really cool experience. Took me a total of 10 hours to complete the full singleplayer/story mode (could have probably been quicker, but there are so much things that side track you from the story, like funny logs and chats you can read on other peoples PC xD). Everything about this game is just awesome the story, the puzzles, the contracts, the music, the commands you have to use etc. just overall a pretty well thought game and amazingly executed/developed by the developers. I'm probably going to be doing a second playthrough of the game just to get more achievements and see if i can beat it quicker this time, but YEAH I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS GAME!!!

PS: NEVER DELETE UR X-SERVER.SYS FILE!!!!!!!!!!!! (BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN WHEN U DO THAT XD)

9.7/10 Would hack it again!

By far one of the best games I've ever played. Plays like a detective game, but it's clear, logical and extremely cool.
Overall had an amazing experience with this game.

Pros:
- Nice display
- Command typing is easy, fun, and helps set the tone
- Halarious and interesting personal documents and chat logs to read.
- Mixes up the gameplay a bit
- Interesting story progression
- Some amazing puzzles
- Makes you feel very tense
- Good tutorial
- Lots of interesting (although unrealistic) hacking techniques

Cons:
- Definitely not enough essays, notes, chat logs, etc. to read
- No idea why I find the exact same documents on seperate machines, little indication of the person behind each computer having their own life and personality (with one amazing exeption)
- Hacking ports specifically doesn't ever get much more interesting, becomes somewhat routine
- Some bugs (I haven't personally come across any game breaking ones)

>Got curious.
>Connected to my own IP and tried to hack myself.
>Caught by my own trace countermeasure.
>Computer went into emergency shutdown.
>Told I have to change my IP to remain anonymous from myself.
>Failed to get onto my ISP's server fast enough.
>Game over because I figured out who I was and contacted the police.

Not just the best hacking game, but also one of the best games I have played in a while. This is what I'd been looking for: the ability to use real life linux commands in a hacking game and such.
Need more terminal based hacking simulators than those with merely clicking and waiting.
Could use some upgrade features for the computer though. But that would ruin the steep difficulty curve.
The story is satisfyingly complex.
The soundtracks are great.

16/16bit will get decrypted again

If you like uplink, then you'll like this. With the recent release of hackmud, I felt like i needed to play thru hacknet aswell. I heard multiplayer for hacknet should be released late 2016.

Pretty good game, with realy good interface that is not that different from "real hacker". Ok just kidding it's not similar to "normal" hacking but it's a pretty good game that has best tutural, simple but good soundtrack and off course 10-20 hours of "hacking" reality that u need to understand well. I recommend this game :*
