Despite being almost ten years old Crysis has aged perfectly and still stands strong as one of the best FPS games released on PC.

The first part of this game on the highest difficulty is simply perfection. You are an elite Spec Ops warrior having to regroup with your team on a tropical island amid a heavy North Korean military presence. You have to use precise stealth and stalking tactics to stay alive and take down soldiers. Yes you have a nano-suit but it will not keep you alive in a fire-fight against a platoon of enemies. The story is tense and builds up nicely to a confrontation between North Korean and American troops. And the visuals are still, 10 years later, maybe the best ever created if you have the hardware. Then... suddenly it becomes an aliens game and it loses alot of its edge towards the end, before a thrilling final fight.

9.5/10 Still a legendary FPS and better than the uninspiring sequels.

I have a GTX 1080 Strix overclocked at 1440p high, and I hit about 70 fps min, and you have no idea how happy I am that I can finally run it....I got the crysis collection, They all are AMAZING.

This game beats others in its genre in many ways...I've played many games (Not on this account though) and I have to say, I was very impressed with this game, and it will always have a place in my heart....If you want to know a good way to describe Crysis, its like Halo and Gmod combined...Well, what its like to me...anyways, BUY THIS GAME

11/10 Kill with chicken again.

If you , like me, were here to see if your latest PC could run Crysis maxed out and still hold a decent frame rate... I have bad news for you. It can't. But, do not dispair...

After all these years I can look back, wisened in my old age, and realise that Crysis was never going to run well. The developers were using so many new, unrefined graphics techniques that the game by its very nature is not capable of running at a steady 60FPS, with all the graphics turned up to very high. And it never will be capable of holding a steady 60FPS. Guys, Crysis just runs badly. I'm afraid that's the hard truth we all have to swallow....

Quick tip; if you find the frames chugging, just turn off, or turn down, the very bizarre motion blur effect. It murders the FPS, and really doesn't look especially good. Strange, no matter how fast I whip my head around I just can't seem to make the world blur like that....

But now that we've got that out of the way, does the game still hold up after all these years? Does it still look good, and is it still a good game? Good news; yes.

Upon first starting Crysis my jaw landed somewhere between my nipples. It really is incredibly difficult to believe this game is nearly ten years old. And, it's equally mind blowing to realise just how much the Xbox360 and PS3 held back graphics advancements, considering where they were prior to console restrictions. In some areas of Crysis the foliage and lighting effects are still mind blowingly good, even by modern standards. Sure, the rock textures are vomit inducing, and the tree trunks look like the rear end of a horse, but the overall foliage detail is still extremely impressive. I just never get tired of shooting through foliage and seeing the physics effects.

Gameplay wise I can only say this; "Oh, yeah. So this is what games were like before the CoD generation."

You can lean! And go prone! You can change the fire mode of your gun! You can throw chickens at enemies! (Here's a challenge for you; see how far you can get in the game by murdering people only with thrown wildlife.)

The enemies in Crysis really don't ♥♥♥♥♥ foot around, especially on harder difficulty settings. And frankly, I love it. Once they've spotted you they will murder your ♥♥♥. Its genuinely challenging, and the nano suit is actually REQUIRED, or you will get your brains handed to you in five seconds flat. I haven't played a game that offers such wide open spaces, with such a feeling of freedom and realism, in a very long time. Crysis 3 is equally as challenging, as I recall, but just doesn't deliver the same feeling of space that Crysis 1 does. Crysis 1 feels like a real island, and although some may say the space is wasted, I say it does exactly what it's meant to; make you feel like you're in a real world situation.

In conclusion; Crysis is still pretty impressive as far as graphics go, but the real surprise for me was to realise just how good a game it still is. I strongly suggest giving it a go again, especially if you're an 80's baby like myself. Take a dip back into the good old days of first person shooters, folks, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Good game. The only complaint I would have is the campaign ends kinda abruptly.. But other than that it's great.

The best and worst of FPS gaming

Crysis is a decent game, thats all I can say. It's graphics and gunplay are top notch and does live up to expectations. However theres just so many frustrating flaws. The plot is a mediocre 'OMG we discovered aliens and millitaries want to get involved'. The mission areas are placed too far apart, forcing you to traverse on foot for half an hour at times. Level designs sometimes feels too linear despite the huge open map. The variety of weapons attachments are fun and makes combat fluid, but again the big issue is that sometimes the results are unpredictable. Damage is always heavily affected by RNG, sometimes enemies can survive multiple shotgun blasts but can die from two or three rifle shots. So overall the game looks and plays well, theres just too many little frustrations here and there that makes crysis less impressive than, say Killing floor 2 or Battlefield.

This is one of those games I played the demo on a low end system when it came out, I did manage to load it and play on the very lowest setting back then but performance just was horrible and there was no new gaming system in my near future so this became one of those game to put on a must have with a new system and that's what I did, got it on sale and didn't regret one cent of that purchase, it only almost 8 years until I was invested enough to put together a worthy gaming sytem capable of maxing out settings and finally get to play it in it's full intended visual spendor and it's really an amazing game visually. Gameplay is also enjoyable, but I find the suit mechanics irritating, where you have such a limited time with your abilities like sprint although you zoom around is just a blip of a button and the ability is drained. That got really irritating and that's pretty much the same limitation for all abilities they just don't last long enough and I felt I was managing my abilites too much to really have fun playing the way you could with longer lasting abilities. Still even with that the game was fun to play. It's a great series and wouldn't hold back recommending this title or any of the subsequent series.

The actual game is great... however i have a more modern computer and the game simply does not work unless you download a particular portion of code and mess with the files. because its a 32 bit game running on 64 bit computer or some ♥♥♥♥ like that, and comming form steam i would expect the game i bought to work and its such a hastle that its almost not worth it.

At the beggining you wonder why the game autosaves so much. At the end you run out of ideias to name your saved games and just call them "checkpoint 'cus the big fat boss is gonna kill me the second i get out of the chopper".
10/10 would get frozen and killed again

I can't believe this game is several years old. It still holds its own compared to newer games. What I like about it is that there are always several ways to approach a situation. You can't win all the scenarios with just guns a blazing. You have to think strategically everytime, otherwise this game will punish you by repeatedly getting you killed. (I know I got killed several times because I wasn't thinking about my actions.)

One thing that bugged me (and I don't know if this happened to everyone) is in one of the final scenarios, on the battleship deck. Where you had to defeat the giant walking alien thing. My game always crashes to the desktop. I had to keep saving on that stage and I don't know what kept making the game crash. Fortunately, I was able to overcome that hurdle and finish the game eventually.

Also, I kept hitting the caps lock key by mistake and the game gets windowed. It was very irritating when it happens in the middle of a fire fight. I also felt that the game was shorter than I expected. But maybe I was the impatient FPS player that almost always went for the straight route.

Other than that, this game rocks! Buy it! Better if it's on sale. But if not, it's still worth it. I'm ready for the second installment now...
