It’s 11pm and the last house on your route. The windows are boarded up, the yard is overgrown, but the lights are on and the front door is open… strange place to deliver a pizza. You’re getting soaked from the rain, so you hesitantly step inside the house. You shouldn’t have done that.

Fatal Error fix plus VR goodness

Here's another Emily Wants to Play update.

First thing, I fixed the Fatal Error problem that some were having. The fix will cause you to lose your current video settings. When you start the new update, you will need to choose your quality and then go into settings and choose your resolution etc... But at least you can play the game again without any changes. This also means that people that are using the August 8th version should be able to use this new version. If for some reason you still can't open the game, you can go to BETAS, opt in to the EmilyAugust8 Beta and it will load the game before the VR stuff.

VR Changes
Removed the clock sequence, so you won't be teleported to the clock in between levels. You need to make sure you are listening for the clock. :)

Adjusted the default settings to double frame rate in most cases. You can still adjust your quality at anytime by pressing 6, 7, 8, or 9. 6 is the lowest quality and 9 is the highest.

Fixed the camera high up in the sky issue and several height problems. You can still press C or push in the Right Stick on your controller to manually adjust height yourself.

Oculus Rift users will now default to one screen preview output instead of stereo. You can scroll through the different modes by pressing Shift + M.

Teleporting is cleaned up and smoother on HTC Vive. In most cases aim at the floor. If you point at a wall it will not allow you to teleport. You must point at the floor in front of yourself or the wall.

Changed the instruction note in the beginning and the first picture on the wall for HTC Vive users.

Known issue:
When you pause the game in VR, bold text is supposed to appear showing you how to quit, but it has disappeared and I haven't figured out why yet. I didn't want to delay this update any longer.

In HTC Vive, pause the game with the top button above the thumb pad. Then to quit press both thumb pads and triggers at the same time.

On Oculus Rift, pause the game with P, ESC or the right button on the face of the controller. Then you can press both left and right triggers at the same time, or both left and right mouse buttons at the same time to quit to menu.

Thanks again for everything, I will keep trying to improve the VR version of the game for you and fix any bugs you find in the regular version. You are great!

Big VR Update - HTC Vive users now have hands!

Hey guys,

I have been working and testing and working more to get the VR as polished as possible. I see your reviews and comments about the Vive and this update has all of the fixes.

The game now has full HTC Vive controller support. You have hands that can grab and you can teleport all over the place! Using the Vive makes Emily Wants to Play scarier than ever. During testing, I was literally trying to jump out of the way so that Chester couldn't get me. The dolls are more creepy when you feel like you are in the world with them.

Entering and exiting the game is much more user friendly in both Vive and Oculus. You can grab or interact with the menu options and it will send you into the game. Users shouldn't experience motion sickness, or at least not as much. The entrance and clock scenes still move on their own, I may remove them for VR users, but it is all working smoother and better.

Thanks again to everyone that plays or at least watches people play Emily Wants to Play! :)

-Shawn

About This Game

It’s 11pm, and you are at the last house on your route. The lights are on, and the front door is opened. But, the windows are all boarded up and the grass is overgrown. It seems like a strange place to deliver a pizza, but at least, it looks like someone is home.

You run to the front door since it’s storming pretty bad.

“Hello!? Your pizza's here!" You announce. No one answers. There's an eerie silence.

You are getting soaked from the rain, so you hesitantly step inside the door and look around. The front door suddenly closes behind you.

You just wanted to finish this last delivery and head home for the night. Now you must figure out how to get out of this stupid creepy house.

Freely roam the house and try to figure out what is going on. Three dolls and a strange girl named Emily will also start roaming the house as the hours toll by. Stay away from them, but if you do end up in a room with one, figure out how to stay alive.

This may be your last pizza delivery.

===========================

Main Objective:
Stay alive through the night and get out of the house.

-no blood or gore
-play the game how you want, sit still or run around like crazy
-turn the lights off or on ;)

The single scariest experience you will ever have. Can't make any progress because we basically have a heart attack in the first minute of gameplay.

What's fun about this one is just running around the house like a chicken with it's head cut off. Not using the flashlight one bit once you pick it up and go around turning off every light and making stupid drunk challenges. Yeah.lol a buddy and I had that idea for this one. It was a terrible idea. Don't do what we did.

Here's my first time gameplay; the first 5 seconds says it all:

What I think:

This is another inexpensive game that will leave you with plenty of jump scares. I went into it knowing hardly anything about it (aside from the game description); this definitely makes the game more interesting. You roam around a house progressively trying to avoid creepy dolls that try to kill you. You use hints from around the house to figure out how to last during the encounter with said dolls. I avoided using spoilers and searching the internet for ways to do so with my intent being to figure everything out on my own. I recommend playing the game like this!

Sorry, this game is just not fun compared to others. There aren't enough breadcrumbs for the player to follow.

Throw them in a house and have fun -- or not. I died way too many times walking down random hallways, looking for random flashlights, avoiding random threats, and for no apparent reason. Maybe it's my fault for playing games like 'Chair in the Room' and 'Starseed' first.. but... this is a sandbox in the worst sense... Throw them in, let them figure out, don't give any guidance at all.

One of my first disappointments on the Vive.

** Edit: Dying should not be part of the game mechanics. You shouldn't have to die and start over multiple times to find out the right path.

I hate that i like this game.

I love how simple and yet so advanced it it to survive each stage of the game, and in the beginning it really creeped me out. But hey, i'm really bad at horror games!

Maybe the vive support will improve, but I had many technical problems:
- I'm floating like 2 feet above the ground. There's some way with the keyboard to change the height, but not with the controllers? I don't get it; doesn't vive know exactly where the ground is? Teleporting near objects sometimes makes me fly up in the air too.
- Bad jittery framerate, despite most games playing fine on my system
- Objects were frequently beyond the edge of my play area, so I couldn't interact with them without bumping into things in the real world

Maybe there's a good game in here, but I wasn't able to experience it. :( Will try again if there are updates.

Vive Review: They fixed some issues I had with the game. It used to automatically teleport you to the main room at midnight, but it doesn't do that anymore, thankfully. Normal teleporting works better now, but it's still acting weird sometimes, like dropping me in mid-air and then landing on the floor. I wish they'd add an option to use the trackpad to move (press or touch the trackpad in the direction you want to move) instead of teleporting. Also, I think there need to be more clues as to what you're supposed to be doing. You shouldn't have to look up a guide to figure out what to do (same complaint I had with The Witness, a completely different but cryptic game).

If you're looking for a scary game, this is it. It's full of jump scares though. At more than 4.99, I'd say no.
