About This Game

Assassin's Creed™ is the next-gen game developed by Ubisoft Montreal that redefines the action genre. While other games claim to be next-gen with impressive graphics and physics, Assassin's Creed merges technology, game design, theme and emotions into a world where you instigate chaos and become a vulnerable, yet powerful, agent of change.
The setting is 1191 AD. The Third Crusade is tearing the Holy Land apart. You, Altair, intend to stop the hostilities by suppressing both sides of the conflict.
You are an Assassin, a warrior shrouded in secrecy and feared for your ruthlessness. Your actions can throw your immediate environment into chaos, and your existence will shape events during this pivotal moment in history.
  • Be an Assassin - Master the skills, tactics and weapons of history's deadliest and most secretive clan of warriors. Plan your attacks, strike without mercy and fight your way to escape.
  • Experience exclusive PC content - Four PC-exclusive investigation missions make the game an even better experience than its console predecessors, including the Rooftop Race Challenge, a race to a specified location and the Archer Stealth Assassination Challenge, where the player must assassinate all archers in a certain zone to help out fellow Assassins.
  • Realistic and responsive environments - Experience a living, breathing world in which all your actions have consequences. Crowds react to your moves and will either help or hinder you on your quests.
  • Action with a new dimension-total freedom - Eliminate your targets wherever, whenever and however. Stalk your prey through richly detailed, historically accurate, open-ended environments. Scale buildings, mount horses, blend in with crowds. Do whatever it takes to achieve your objectives.
  • Relive the epic times of the Crusades - Assassin's Creed immerses you in the realistic and historical Holy Land of the 12th century, featuring life-like graphics, ambience and the subtle, yet detailed nuances of a living world.
  • Intense action rooted in reality - Experience heavy action blended with fluid and precise animations. Use a wide range of medieval weapons, and face your enemies in realistic swordfight duels.
  • Next-gen gameplay - The proprietary engine developed from the ground up for the next-gen console allows organic game design featuring open gameplay, intuitive control scheme, realistic interaction with environment and a fluid, yet sharp, combat mechanic.

Good game, but there are some bugs. Ultimately, it's a classic and the graphics are satisfactory. I recommend it for those who want to play the entire series.

Kind of like the first Mass Effect, it's not the best in the series, and it has aged, but still a solid game. Story is rough in certain parts. Even so, the gameplay is so fun it's a testament to its power as a series.

It's interesting that back in the middle ages not a single person knew how to swim. Seriously though...why was it so hard to implement a swimming function in AC1?

This game has many weapons including: machine guns, knifes, butterfly guns, and dragons. My son should never be exposed to dragons, this is outrageous! He is only 17 years old, he's not ready for that type of violence.

And now for the drug use. There are many drugs including: crack, heroin, grass, poppy seeds, and marijuana. My son is only 19 years old, he's not ready to use drugs.

The Ten Commandments of the Assassin's Creed:
1) No running or you will be killed on sight.
2) No galloping or you will be killed on sight.
3) No walking on the roof or you will be killed on sight.
4) Dirty thief! I'll have your hand for that!
5) No loitering in the guard's treasured personal space for more than two seconds or guess what?

You will be killed on sight.
6) No swimming or...never mind, you'll die anyway.
7) No bumping into people or you will be killed on sight.
8) No climbing buildings or you will be killed on sight.
9) If you don't slouch and leave one hand hanging while trotting at a snail's pace on your horse, you will be killed on sight.
10) They say it is a crusade! But a crusade for what? Ignorance? Violence? Infidel! I'll have your hand for that!

Silliness aside, take these with a sackful of salt, as they are very subjective:
Story: 7.0/10
Interesting, but doesn't tug too hard on those heartstrings.

Setting: 8.5/10
If you're a history buff, you are in for a ride. The Holy Land! The Third Crusade! Islam and Christianity butting heads! Ancient conspiracies! Illuminati! (well, not exactly, but close enough) Violence! Madness! Infidel! I'll have your hand for that!

Art style: 8.0/10
Nothing much to shout about, but if I walked through Syria eight hundred years ago, I think this would be pretty accurate.

Gameplay: 6.5/10
If you are not a patient person, don't buy this game. Many a time I have pounded the table because something was tedious or inscrutably difficult. However, it wasn't so bad as to keep me from completing the game. Bringing some grey matter with you while playing is highly recommended.

Overall enjoyment: 7.5/10
It's not a bad game, but it's not overwhelmingly awesome either. My main sticking point is in the gameplay. However, if you can tolerate that, I think you might like this classic.

Horrible PC port. Loved this game on the Xbox 360, but on pc it seems to crash more than it doesn't. The controls are also not very user friendly, and you have to change them everytime youe log into the game because it reverts them back to default.

This game hasn't aged very well. Repetitive gameplay, clunky mechanics, strange bugs, and bad writing. Gonna just watch the story on Youtube instead.

Boring game with clunky controls. Only good thing is that Uplay launcher isn't needed. All in all not worth to spend 10$. On sales only with much of good will.

I really enjoyed the Assassin's Creed Games that I had on my XBox, Sadly the Achievements are missing from the steam series. To me this was half the challenge and tho i've owned them quite awhile I've played less than 20hrs on all of them combined.

Just as good as the first time back in '08. Gameplay is repetitive with only 3 main cities (Damascus, Acre, Jerusalem) and your home base (Masyaf), but the story's what drives the experience.

The gameplay itself can be (very) glitchy at moments, especially when free running; your weapon arsenal isn't as extensive as the other games, but it does the job wonderfully; there're no negative drawbacks to not being stealthy, so be as crazy as you want. These things don't detract from the enjoyment of the game, but can be frustrating when you have to escape after assassinating your target. This is a series in its infancy, we all know where it goes from here with the numerous added enhancements and features.

Graphics-wise it's held up quite well; the environments still look gorgeous and the attention to detail for both the cities and history still fascinates me to this day. The audio, on the other hand, is alright for the main characters and targets, but is recycled for the NPC townsfolk and you can hear the compression in some of the dialog. This is a port, so it's understandable.

Despite the minor glitches and audio complaints, I still highly recommend this game to veterans of the series and those who have never played the series before. Experience the ongoing, generational struggle of the Assassins against the Templars. Become one with the Brotherhood. Live the Creed.
