I'll be honest, from the screenshots and videos, I though this was going to be yet another crappy DDR clone with a twist. I'm glad I was wrong, this game is actually pretty fun. The twist is actually making the game pretty simple, and with the ability to change difficulty whenever you want, everyone can have fun easily. Simple to start playing, tricky to master. Only thing I truly recommend : get a controller. Playing on a keyboard is confusing. If ya love rhythm game, get this game, you won't be dissapointed.

Excellent challenging rhythym game with additional depth through rpg mechanics.

strengths and weaknesses:
+Genre combination done well. Important to use correct abilities + gear in the match.
+characters always dancing!

-Damage numbers located far from rhythym arrows. Very hard to watch both. Consequently, buffs, debuffs, weaknesses less noticeable.
-I only like 33% of the music.

Really enjoying this game. Great music selection and it can get incredibly challenging. If you have a controller, use it. Keyboard isn't as responsive. It also has an option to sync your monitor/audio response time.
The only downside to the game is that I can't apprecate the really cool creatures because my eyes are glued to the note-bars. Well worth the low price!

First Impressions. Decent game for rhythm fans.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QupYpDsqMog
Story mode is what I played, which between chapters was fully voiced. Freeplay is also available. Quests were received but primarily each consists of a surprising range of music that I mostly found appealing. After completing each track, characters level up and are given items that can enhance their abilities. I would assume the rarity scales with performance. Difficulty options can be adjusted on the fly, not required to restart which is plus and easily accessible leaderboards were available.

No Multiplayer which some may see as a downside but there is a fair bit going on. Balancing skill use at the right time becomes quite chaotic solo, perhaps with designated characters it might work (something to think about in future devs). Gamepad is suggested though a keyboard is perfectly fine. Controls can all be remapped and options were available for adjusting timing of your screen to the music (slower monitors). Price is a little high due to being a music game but those artists do need to eat I guess. :) Cheers.

Puuba Inc

Rating:
11/10

Intended Audience:
People who enjoy rhythm games, funny story lines, long walks on the beach.

Summary:
Four friends set out to save the world with the power of dance.

Thoughts:
It doesn't matter how you dance it just matters how much fun you have doing it. This game gives you the most amazing sound tracks to get your groove on and allows you to dance your pants off.

I've used a keyboard, but I can't wait until my dance pad arrives to play this game with my family.

The story is funny, the songs are amazing, and the game play allows for both casual and hardcore gamers to enjoy themselves.

Buy one for your mother, sister, brother, father, friend, friends best friends ex room mate.

In my opinion this is the best music game released this year.

Note: I did recieve this product to demo; however, I've already bought 10 copies for my friends and family. My only complaint is the Puubas (Danny and Dave) never let me buy their games in a 4 pack. I wish all the games I owned were this much fun.

Absolutely outstanding game that blends the RPG and rhythm genres near perfectly.

The trailer didn't sell me on this particularly well, either. I watched a friend play for a bit and decided to take the plunge. And I'm really glad I did. The Metronomicon is highly polished, overflowing with content, and most importantly - really really fun. I find it hard to turn it off, honestly.

Essentially, when you complete sequences of dance moves by matching the arrows, you perform some action like attack or heal, etc. You can choose what action you perform by how long you keep the sequence going. There is a lot going on, and I mean that in a good way. Pitting elementals against each other is how you exploit weakness (ie. fire kills lush earth, and water kills fire, and so on). You get equipable and functional loot. You build your party and swap different classes in and out. There are different modes and they are all really well done.

The music is high energy and quite varied. There is a lot of it, in my opinion. I hear there will be more coming as DLC, which is awesome. It is also my opinion that the worst part of this game is debatebly the artwork. It is not horrible per se, but I just wish it were different. At least the animations are funny with how their hips gyrate lol. The enemies have a lot of 'character' lol.

Pros:
+Really great blend of two genres that makes for some very addictive gameplay. I have a hard time putting it down.
+Controller support is good.
+Tons of content. I could see getting dozens of hours out of this.
+I like all the different modes and interesting play mechanics. One really neat thing was the firey rain that you had to 'catch' before it fell on your party at one of the boss fights.
+Music is pretty great. Really high energy and there are a lot of genres in there.
+Animations follow the beat and are pretty funny.

Cons:
All of my 'cons' have been addressed =D
-If you want to hit two buttons at once to capture a double-note, you have to use both pads. You should have the option of just using one pad to do this. Doesn't make sense that you don't.
-Maybe this is a thing, but I think we should be able to input our own music like you can in CotND. Not a major flaw. In fact, more of a suggestion.
-Artwork is 'meh' IMO.

This is a must-buy if you like rhythm games.

The Metronomicon is a unique and pretty good rhythm - RPG hybrid. There are some irritating things here and there, but I am having fun playing it overall. I feel it was well worth the money!

Take Patapon, ok?
Take Patapon, and weld it to DDR.

That's what this game is. It is Patapon (music-based-timed-attacks), with DDR's main gimmick (those arrows at the bottom)

I love me some patapon. this game makes me want to play patapon.
And that's because it did it better.

You must keep your cool even under fire if you are to succeed. You cannot experience glee. It is not over until the winning is done. That is what Patapon taught me.
As the great one, these are the things I invested into my eyeball warriors.
And they're friggin champions.

Its not hard, really, so as long as you can get a feel for the beat right away, which you will if you're not deaf, and provided you can keep your teams needs in check.
the games music, while absoutely suburb, in my opinion, also has a very obvious beat, just like in Patapon. I feel honestly the music should present you a challenge but none exists. Just don't get lost in the music and you cannot fail.
The story is very meh thusfar, and Violet is mega annoying. Its like she tried really hard to be l i k e that weird girl in your class, but the thing is, she succeeded 2x, and rather than accept her niche, her brain blew out her ears and now she keeps some sort of flaming skull around.

Part of the skill in this game, is letting your eyes flicker to the top of the screen to remind yourself what sort of attack to que up next. If you don't care about the elements, being speedy works too, and in that, makes it easy to cheese.

I don't see myself grinding for neat stuff like I did in Patapon.
The loot doesn't seem to make a difference unless its a weapon.
Having them change aesthetically, like, if I gave her a pair of sunglasses. Seeing those glasses appear on their models (like any helm or spear would in Patapon) would've been neat.
If its the same music, its the same pattern. Just like in Audiosurf.
Which...kinda means you only get one shot at the music.
In Patapon your drum beats were in a direct reaction to whatever you're fighting so, despite the music not changing, the combat usually did.

Here you're just kinda setting up, and then producing attacks.

All that said; Its good. Its really really good.
And if you're not violet, your voice acting is excellent.

One last thing. In patapon, your goal was nearly always in front of you.

Here, its not clear what you're supposed to be doing....so you just kinda keep making attacks until you get a result so...keep your goal in mind when it tells it to you.

8/10

I really love this game. I could go on and on about it but among the best things to say:

Great music: A ton of great tracks, all of which I had never been exposed to before. Some of the tracks are specifically made for this game and I like nearly all of them. I didn't buy the accompanying soundtrack at first, but now I'm considering it.

Fantastic difficulty curve: This one is important, I was kind of worried when I first tried some hard songs that I would never get good enough to beat them. A couple weeks in, and I can beat every song on hard and am working my way up on some leaderboards. It really is addicting because I never felt "stuck" in the game where I stopped accomplishing things.

Cool RPG elements: At the end of the game, you have enough equipment and unique abilities to really create some special task forces for accomplishing certain goals (like most damage on a song, most enemies killed on a song, most spells cast). Creating a party around specific goals is actually really fun too, it's not just all about the rhythm game!

Overall for a summary of the game, I would definitely say this is a rhythm game first and an RPG second. But it's a really well done fusion of the two. Pretty much all skill levels are welcome; I think most anybody should find easy doable, many can probably jump in on medium. I will say if you are some kind of pro at StepMania or FFR on keyboard controls, then even the hard difficulties on keyboard might be a bit easy (I've seen what you people can do!). That's just because these tracks were all handcrafted to be dance pad friendly.

Game is fantastic! RPG game that requires strategy. What I like is that there is a lot of freedom in the way you build your team. You can put the moves in different slots of your character, as well as choose which moves to use. Also, the items allow you to make different builds as well. The characters represent healers, tanks, physical attackers, magic attackers, rogues, etc., that you would see in other RPGs. I would definitely recommend this to others. The game is challenging at first on easy but you improve quickly. Hard provides a great challenge for the more hardcore gamers.

A cute little silly unique rhythm game with RPG elements and good humor.

This game will force you to learn to multitask with your brain on a fairly high level. There are three difficulty options that change the note density with the hardest not being too bad so the game is accessible to an average playerbase. For anyone who isn't amazing at rhythm games it presents a fun challenge with coordination and it additionally has RPG elements that require a more open-ended classic strategic element commonly seen in RPGs. It takes a mastery of the physical and mental parts of the game to challenge the leaderboards but it is not necessary to be a master to progress in the game.

If you know this is something that interests you then you will probably like it. If you aren't sure be wary because the gameplay is what it is for hours on end song after song. But I recommend it for what it is if it is your thing.

A much, much worse version of Before the Echo. The soundtrack is more diverse, but that's probably the only advantage of Metronomicon (personally, I liked BtE soundtrack a lot more, but everyone has different tastes I guess).

1) The gameplay is a lot less skill-based and a lot more random. If your enemy wants to do damage when you don't have enough HP, it will do damage. If it wants to stun you, it will (and this will affect your final score). There is nothing you can do to control the situation (except for boss attacks, that actually give you a way to prevent the damage, like you normally can in BtE), so you kind of have to guess if you should heal one more time or try to kill one more enemy to get one more kill for the challenge.

2) Interface tries to annoy you any time it has an opportunity to do so. You just finished one enemy and want to see the element of the next one? Well, here is an enemy, but it will take a few moments for its health bar to appear, so unless you want to memorize all the ugly sprites and their corresponding elements, you have to guess blindly. Any reasons to not show you an important UI element? Nope, just game being annoying. Another example: game convinced you that Water skills are blue, Fire ones are red, and Thunder ones are yellow? Basic color coding, works for every skill. Nice. Ok, quick quiz: as your cast spells, your battlefield changes from blue into red into yellow. Does it mean that it changed from water into fire into thunder? Of course not, it means "first, second, third skill slot", duh. It would probably kill the devs to be consistent, or to use different colors for unrelated things.

3) Progression system is so broken that it makes the scoreboard system completely pointless. Want to compete with your friend and compare scores? The same song on the same character level may become a lot easier or harder based on the order in which you first completed these songs in the campaign (and this is permanent), so if you picked some other order, you may never be able to beat someone else's record, no matter how hard you try (the difference in mob levels will stay forever, even when you'll reach the level cap). Why they decided to implement this system is beyond me. And BTW, devs don't care about their game anymore, and have no intention to fix that.

4) Performance. It's hard to believe, but a game that looks like a simple 2D arcade manages to drop frames at random moments on a powerful modern PC. Oh, and 1-2 seconds-long hickups every time you fiddle with the menus will make you hate the UI even outside of the combat.

If you are looking for a fun rhythm game, try Before the Echo instead.

Though, i did get this game for free which means i'm disqualified from the"worth buying territorry.
It really does depend whether you like have hair or not. Other wise, you're not gonna have hair after playing this game on the most difficult difficulty. even on easy this game make you take your eye brows out.
Great sound track! My favorite is fighting with the melody.
Though i wish you could add your own songs 2 the game and add the beat icons.
One last thing i have 2 say: I'm bald because of this game.

Even though i only played an hour and 40 minutes.

I couldn't recommend this game more!

- The music is upbeat and fits the game perfectly
- The controls in game (especially switching between different characters music tracks in songs) feels flawless
- The challenges are awesome and mix it up a bit
- You can play on any difficulty, meaning new comers to the genre can start with the basics and die-hard fans can start on hard
- The story and cutscenes are hilarious

The only problem I have with this game is using the arrow buttons on my controller seems to skip over an option, so I have to navigate the menus with my mouse and keyboard. (This might be because I'm using a PS4 controller with InputMapper though!) Otherwise, the actual gameplay is totally fine!
