Quake Live Update v1069

We've just released an update to both the client and the server today. Servers and clients will both need to update as the changes are not compatible between versions, and older servers will be de-listed from the server list. Here's the list of changes:

- add server support for alternate death effects through workshop
- fixed inability to look around after issuing a map_restart while paused
- grappling hooks on dead and disconnected players weren't freed, resulting in the hook snapping from player to player
- clientmute now properly mutes team chat
- fixed some random color issues on map rotation error output
- powerups and keys were spawning before the minimum amount of time at map start
- elder: fixed doubled up fog volume
- ironworks: fixed ffa spawns

Over 12 Game Modes

Free For All - It's every man, woman, and sinister alien being for him/her/itself as the players frag everything that moves to get the most points. Kill or be killed.
Duel - Players fight each other one-on-one in a 10 minute face-off, while future foes spectate whilst awaiting their turn in battle.
Team Deathmatch - Two teams of players work to control the arena in a coordinated contest of carnage to score the most frags.
Clan Arena - Great for new and experienced players alike, players start off with all weapons, and are eliminated once fragged. The last team standing wins the round.
Capture the Flag - Slip into the other team's home base, grab their flag, and run home to score.
Domination - Capture and hold command points placed around the map.
And more! - Including Freeze Tag, Race, One Flag CTF, Harvester, Attack & Defend, Red Rover, Quad Hog, and Infected!

Gameplay

An old classic! The game itself is good, best and extreme fps ever created. It requires lots of practice and takes time from reflex, aim, movement, acceleration at it finest and how fast you turn, to playing strategy on every different maps and different game modes. A game skill based. not only focused high powered graphics elements.

The Game's Ambient

based on dark and gothic atmosphere concept between fanstasty and sub-universes exiting in virtual reality. The sound of items are pretty cool with ambient effects.(including Q3 maps and defrag mod) What impressed me!

Old Launcher vs Steam update

Changing is a natural progress like everything.

Probably a few things I miss from Old Launcher :

The player profile with detailed stats ; was look pretty individual for every player.
Variety pack of servers ; Different game modes for every match in one server(CTF,FFA,TDM,DOM,RR,HAR,A&D)
Matchmaking/Skill based servers ; Probably was the best one

Steam :

Able to go to Main Menu while playing
Some funny workshop items
Guides in one place( All what you need for game)
FPS drops due to maps/plugins

Community

There is nothing much to say about this, That doesn't mean 100 % of community sucks but
sometimes you can find with :

Silly/Meaningless bind during playing :)) -) etc. in loop.. (have no idea what reflect of cyber feeling they do it's a game at the end)
Insults/bullying (depends on what server you're in "mostly CTF - CA" regular staff of server - "noob hater")
Thrash talkings/Whiner heads/Angry nerds
Variety types of trolling personalities with no respect
Organized stuff (A group of people and their crew "including admins/moderators")
Pros with Maximum performers (forcing to win and stay to ganging noobs to score high on low tier servers) "Probably worst satisfied egos you can find"
etc

Defrag mod aka race community is kind of players no bullying or attack each other.

Might have recommended it to Quake 3 fans when it was F2P (although, I personally was never all that into Quake 3, only Quake I loved being Quake 1), but now I can't recommend this to anyone. It's just Quake 3 but worst.

Worst decision to move a working system to Steam.

Since they have moved it to Steam I get spikes and lags all the time.
The mouse feels weird too, and they changed the damage of several weapons. It's no fun anymore.

Back then when it was a browser game, everything was better.

They haven't gained anything from moving it onto the Steam platform.

Way to go to kill the Arena Shooter genre. Cannot recommend this game.

This is a free-to-play version of Quake III Arena that is free no longer... The multiplayer that has actual human players is where advantages of this version start and end. It just feels that the once great game was vandalized, its corpse was taken from the tomb, ripped apart and sewed back together to create a Frankenstein that barely anyone was interested in even when it was free. The cheap feel of menus and lack of gore makes it my least favorite game of the series.

This is my analysis after familiarizing myself in general with the game for several hours. If I play this game for any significant amount of time like I have in CS:GO I will report back with more.

+ Very fun game to play on public servers
+ Super entertaining to watch professional matches and their very high skill level
+ High skill ceiling
+ Great netcode and hit registration

- Not especially geared toward casual gamers considering the high skill ceiling (fine for me, some may not enjoy it)
- Harsh crowd on Clan Arena (CA) servers if you aren't a good player yet

I used to play it when it was a browser thing. I spend a fair amount of money during this time on premium account and now again im facing the fact i should _buy_ the game.
AFAIK all my achievments and stats are wiped and I dont think I have any reason to make a purchase.
♥♥♥♥ it. Wont even bother.

The game rly got worses since it moved on steam platform - UI, premium things etc etc.

You will die. And you will rage. This game is competitive and difficult to master. I still have a long way to to but its a good game. Its got enough replay value to keep you going for a very long time. This game can only be played by someone who is already good at fast pace shooters. Its not meant for noobs at all. This is a must buy for gamers who want to play a difficult competitive game.

The community is still somewhat alive too which is great!
