Online is out of Beta, Twitch Integration, and New Game Content!

The newest update to Ultimate Chicken Horse comes with a ton of changes and the online portion of the game is now out of Beta! You can hear all about the new changes in this video.

It's time to grab your copy of UCH and play online with friends or join the vibrant community; there are always several matches available online for you to join, and the new updated lobby shows you the best matches possible based on skill, connection quality, and other factors.

We've also added Twitch integration, where Twitch streamers can have their audience vote on which blocks will appear in the Party Box. Once the chosen platform is placed, the names of the people who voted will pop out of it.

Next up is a new level, the Pier!

This level features a giant wave that the players need to run away from... don't get caught underneath! The level makes for an interesting dynamic when players have to place obstacles on the path with the added pressure of constantly needing to move forward quickly.

Our newest block added to the game is a punching plant which gets angry when you come near it, then punches out in a fit of flowery rage a second later. If you get caught in its range, you may regret it.

We're pretty excited to have these updates out, and we're still working hard on the game. Next up is a big new feature, please follow us on your favourite social media site to stay informed!

Online Update, A New Block, & Official Soundtrack Release!

It's the Steam Summer Sale!!!

With it, Ultimate Chicken Horse has gotten some major online updates: there's no more "Beta branch" for online play, we've improved connectivity, added clearer messaging, and generally improved the whole online experience to make it much more playable. We are still keeping the online mode labeled as "Beta" because we will be constantly updating it, improving it and fixing the remaining bugs. You can check the full Update Log for a full list of improvements.

In this update, we're also including a bit of a preview for new content to come! We've added a new block, the horizontal moving block, which should open up a whole new world of possibilities of movement, placement and screwing with your friends:

We're planning on rolling out more content once the online Beta is out of Beta, but we wanted to give you a quick tease.

Last but certainly not least, we're announcing the official UCH soundtrack with a great new bundle!

The soundtrack was made by the amazingly talented Vibe Avenue, contains 12 tracks and over 40 minutes of sweet tunes. It also features live instruments: trumpets, saxophones, flutes, whistles, banjos, guitars, harmonica and more!

Enjoy, and you can expect some more big updates coming soon!

About This Game

Ever wish you were a wall-jumping, arrow-dodging, trap-setting horse, besting your animal pals in a race through a peril-laden obstacle course that you all built together?

Wish Granted!

Ultimate Chicken Horse is a party platformer where you and your friends build the level as you play, placing deadly traps before trying to reach the end of the level. If you can make it but your friends can't, you get a point! Play online or locally with your animal buddies and experiment with a wide variety of platforms in all sorts of strange locations to find new ways to mess with your friends.

Key Features

  • Online and local play
  • Unique game flow, from strategic block placement to twitch control platforming
  • 10 levels with different features (for now)
  • Huge library of blocks to create an infinite variety of levels
  • Play as a chicken, horse, sheep, and other wonderful animals
  • Fun, cartoony art style
  • Sweet funky soundtrack

Please note: there is no "single-player" version of this game. There is online multiplayer, where you can join random lobbies with friends or strangers, so you can still enjoy the game alone!

Amazing, simply amazing. One of the best concepts I've seen in a while for multiplayer fun. Its competetive, fast, and easily replayable 10/10.

Just wish you guys would do a 4 pack! Even at full price! CMON!

I'm mostly so happy with this game I'm not entirely sure how to review it. Seeing as the screenshots basically show you what the game is and there's so many YouTubers who have covered it I don't think covering the basics is even worth it.

It's the most fun "casual" multiplayer game I've played in a long time. And the reason for those inverted commas on the "casual" is if you're playing with friends, you're gonna be real competitive, and bad luck can lead to serious saltiness :P

The game is amazing if you can set it up in the same room as friends as a shared screen coop game, and still very good if you play online with your friends, especially if you use a service like Discord for voice chat. One feature I like is the fact that you can mix & match between online players and split-screen players, for example, I can play online against a friend and his brother using only two computers.

Another great thing about it is while the game requires a certain level of "skill" especially as levels get harder, newer players can still gain great enjoyment out of the game by making the level impossible for everyone, taking advantage of the underdog system, and then the whole point scale handicap system which weights different players victories at different levels against each other.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this game right now, even if there were a couple of things I wish the devs would add to push it high into my favorite games of all time list.

1. A level editor and steam workshop support.
I've played a similar game called Trapper's Delight, and unfortunately it missed out on most of the high profile YouTubers and Streamer coverage, so it's player-base is much smaller by orders of magnitude. However the one main advantage that game has is, like I said, the ability to make custom levels and share them via the steam workshop. I don't know how easy this would be to implement, but I think the possibility of this could explode the popularity of this game even more.

2. More content updates.
This one is kind of unfair, because it was only this month that a new level and block was added to the game. But before that it was several months of literally zero updates that had almost lead me to believe that there wasn't going to be any more content. I do understand that the devs had the monumental task of rewriting the whole system of how the online multiplayer works ( as far as I know it's done now?) so maybe that was part of it, but I'd love to see new blocks added every month, and levels less often. it's fun to even revisit the most basic level (the rooftops) with new blocks to invent new ways of absolutely ruining your friend's sanity.

Only con of the game for me is the fact that I'm not too happy with playing randoms online, because in several of the few occasions I tried this I was kicked from the game seconds before winning.

Finally I think the game is honestly worth at the very least the full price right now, especially if you've friends to play with. If it's on sale sell your soul if necessary to make sure you end up with such a gem of a game.

Probably gonna be my favorite indie game of 2016.

Actually a really fun little party platformer game, plug in multiple controllers with your friends and thats where the game really takes off.

Have had countless people take a first look at this game and get second thoughts on letting me convince them to have a go. But by the end of our sessions on this game, it can get as competitive between as playing AAA rated games can sometimes get at a fraction of the price!.

Actually looking forward to what the developers future plans are for this game as it has alot of promise!

An awesome mix of multiplayer platforming and level building, where between 2 and 4 players tries to get through one of many levels by building the platforms as you go, trying to create a path that lets you get there alive while obstructing your enemies.

By far the best game mode is Party Mode, where in between each gameplay round all players get to pick one object from a box and place it in the level before you start, making for a gradual increase in difficulty and requiering both skill and strategy to win. Outside of normal platforms there is also level elements such as moving platforms, saw blades, glue, ice, teleporters, trapdoors and tons of other items available to build with, meaning no two games will play out the same.

The gameplay also feels really nice, having a classic Mario feel to it with a designated run button and a good weight to your character, making it feel like you are in total control of your movements and avoiding cheap deaths due to game engine. There is also a wall jumping mechanic that opens up for tons of creative level designs.

There is two issues with the game worth knowing about though before going in. First off is that there is no real single player mode to this as of now, the second is that the online mode is an open beta that can be somewhat glitchy at times and might require restarting your game on some occasions.

If you can deal with those negatives though this is a fun, original and well made game, all wrapped up in a nice package of a gorgeous art style, great funky music and a development team that keeps supporting the game with patches and new content. Highly recommended for anybody who likes multiplayer platforming

Funniest party game i've ever played at least so far. This has been both fun and frustraded for me and my friends but we still end up with a good laugh. Together with your friend and this games really sets it up. Worth the money and there are just so many ways to sabotage your friends. This is a huge recommandation from me to get this game, you won't regret it!

As a fan of the NLSS, I've already seen some hilarious youtube vids of this game, and playing it was a blast!

Basically, try to build a nearly-impossible deathtrap, and see you've got the platforming skills to be the one that doesn't kick the bucket :P

ULTIMATE CHICKEN HORSE

Man, what a game! Why hasn't anbody done this before?

Pros:
-NO DLCs (up to now at least)
-plays different every game
-supports local multiplayer and shared controller
-Sandbox mode if you're in the mood for that

Cons:
-no singleplayer
-characters can be only chosen once in a game(for example only one player can be the chicken)
-physics are a bit slippery(maybe thats just me)
