Welcome to TraceBase! This trace database (TraceBase) has been developed to
allow researchers around the world to access and share traces from various
computer architectures.  Access to tracebase is by anonymous ftp to:
tracebase.nmsu.edu (128.123.9.44).  This database has just come on-line, so
please be patient while we get things smoothed out.  Comments and suggestions
are welcome via email to tracebase@nmsu.edu.

The traces available so far are all uniprocessor traces.  We will have
multiprocessor traces available soon (end of May?).  If you have preferences
for the format of multiprocessor traces, please send us email.
The standard trace format for the uniprocessor traces is PDATS (see source
code in /pub/tracebase4/src; also paper on PDATS in Proceedings of 1994
IEEE International Phoenix Conference on Computers and Communications).

The on-line traces will be found in /pub/tracebase* where * is 1-4.  If
a trace is not currently on-line, you may request that trace be put on-line
by sending email to tracebase@nmsu.edu.  Once the trace is on-line, you
will receive an acknowledgement via email.  You will then have a minimum of
24 hours to download the trace.  After 24 hours, the trace may be deleted
to make room for other requests.  You will find names of the traces available,
both on-line and off-line, in various README files.

CITATIONS

Besides making a lot of traces available to a lot of people, we hope that
the TraceBase will promote comparability and reproducibility among research
projects.  To this end, please identify the traces you use in your published
work so that others can use the same traces.

CONTRIBUTIONS

We are currently using an 8 GB RAID ("on-line storage") to cache a portion
of the data in a 100 GB tape jukebox ("off-line storage").  Only a fraction
of this space has been used.  We welcome you to upload any traces you 
have that we don't have.  You may put all uploads in /pub/incoming.  
We have allocated 200 MB for incoming traces.  If your trace is larger, 
please send us email and we will make arangements for your trace.

Please upload a short description of the trace including the name and version
of the traced program, the program inputs, the architecture it was taken 
from, its format, and any other information to assist other researchers in
using the trace.  If you include your name and affiliation, we will also
include them in the trace header information.  If your traces are not in 
dinero or PDATS format, please upload source code that reads your format.
