     Dave Matthews Band Information

    Dave Matthews was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1967. He then moved in 1986 to Charlottesville, VA, where his parents had lived before he was born. Matthews says his principal goal with the band was to surround himself with the best players possible.
    Stefan Lessard is the bass player for the Dave Matthews Band. He was born on June 4th 1974, which makes him the youngest member of the band. At the age of 16 he was approached by Dave, Carter, & Leroi to help produce a demo tape. Stefan was already a very well respected bass player in the jazz circles of Virginia. His teacher, John D'earth reccomended him to Dave Matthews when he was in search of a bass player.
    Boyd Tinsley is the bands violinest. He was born on May 16, 1964 in Charlottesville, VA and grew to become a classical violinist until 1985, when he switched over to rock and roll. Since then, he has defined the rock 'n' roll violin. Before joining Dave, Carter, LeRoi, and Stefan, Boyd played with a few local outfits.
    Leroi Moore is the saxophone and flute player for the Dave Matthews Band. He was born in Durham, NC. on September 7th 1961. Leroi and Carter Beauford were the first to join Dave in 1991. Leroi plays many different saxophones on stage for Dave Matthews Band.
    Carter Beauford is the drummer for the Dave Matthews Band. He was born and raised in Charlottesville VA. on November 2nd 1957 which makes him the oldest member of the band. Carter Beauford has been playing jazz drums since his childhood.
