4. As of 6 p.m. EST on 1 January, US forces
had renewed their active participation in 11 of the
24 ground operations currently under way in South
Vietnam. So far, however, no significant ground
contact with the enemy has been reported. Three
B-52 bombing raids have been carried out in Quang Tri
and Quang Ngai provinces since the termination of the
New Year's cease-fire period.
