DEDICATION ========== The ITRANS Song Book is forever dedicated to the memory of Venkatasubramanian K Gopalakrishnan (aka KGB). The history of the ITRANS Song Book would never have been anything special, if KGB had not sent me e-mail one day, suggesting that it would be very easy to add hundreds of songs to the collection. During the two year period before KGB came along, the Song Book project lay dormant, and it did not generate any public interest at all. Then, along came KGB and things suddenly started to happen. He was instrumental in the addition of more than two hundred songs to the collection, at a time when the collection only had 21 songs. This archive now contains more than a thousand documents, for that, the song book is dedicated to KGB's memory. KGB came in and provided the impetus, the enthusiasm, and the energy, which has pulled this project from being a minor and uninteresting experiment to its current state, where numerous volunteers are now working to add more and more documents, in various Indian Languages. Today, the Song Book is on its way to become a major repository of computer-readable Indian Language Texts, and for that, here's to you, Venkat K Gopalakrishnan, may your soul rest in peace, thanks for everything. We wish you were here today, with us, to talk to us once again, but we know that that cannot be. Nonetheless, we are glad for at least having got to work with you and having got to know you...we will always remember those times, and we will try very hard not to feel so sad about the unfairness of it all...we accept that you are now resting, at a safe, peaceful, and an eternal abode... KGB, thanks for everything. ---- June 1994 Avinash Chopde, along with all the RMIM'ers who remember you. avinash@acm.org rec.music.indian.misc (RMIM) =========================================================================== | | | Venkatasubramanian K Gopalakrishnan (KGB) | | | | Born: 1970 | | Deceased: 1993 | | | | KGB received his Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science from | | the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India. | | He belonged to the Class of 1992. | | | | He came to University of Wisconsin, at Madison, WI, USA, in '92. | | He died in an unfortunate car wreck in 1993. | | | | He is survived by his parents, and his younger sister. | | His parent's address: Mr & Mrs K Gopalakrishnan Iyer, | | #586, 12th Cross, 9th Main T.K.Layout, 4th Stage, | | Mysore Karnataka - 570009, India. | | | ===========================================================================
