Asus - 11.6 Laptop - Intel Atom - 2GB Memory - 32G

Posted by: ff1690 from on 10/06/2015Point one: Kudos to ASUS for making the initial boot so easy as in regards to installing win10. On the first boot you are given the option to download Win10 and you can install immediately or later. I decided to skip the fiasco of Win8.1 and installed Win10. The install was flawless. IMPORTANT NOTE - Make sure you have a USB thumb drive or external USB disc drive as you will get a warning that you do not have enough space for the install. It uses the external drive to store temp files for the install. IMPORTANT NOTE: After the install you will have around 14 GB free space. This is because it stores the old Win8.1 files in 2 directories, windows.old and forget the other directory name. These will be deleted automatically in 28 days. You can delete them manually, Google the process. Point two: I installed a 64GB Micro SD card. No issues at all. I immediately transferred, from external USB drive, about 10GB of MP3's and 30GB of MP4 movies via USB2 port. Transfer was flawless. Point three: Notebook searched for available networks and the connection was easy. I choose my secure network and I was prompted for WiFi Network Name (SSID) and WiFi Password. No issues at all. On 15-20 subsequent boots it connects each time without issue. Good range. My impressions: I am impressed with the quality of the the ASUS EeeBook X205TA. It's solid, well built, and looks great. The audio quality via built in speakers is adequate. Nothing to write home about but good volume for a notebook this size. The audio quality via the headphone jack is awesome. Better than most of my MP3 players. Totally impressed. I had no issues installing KeePass for password management and I can automatically log onto all my sites with no issues. I also installed Ccleaner with no issues and Malwarebytes with no issues. I also added a USB mouse and it's very responsive as is the Touch pad. I have streamed Netflix and see NO lag whatsoever. Also ESPN and YouTube online with no lag. I am quite impressed with the picture quality. For the time being I am using the built in MS Edge browser and it's quite smooth while browsing. I wasn't sure that it was going to live up to its battery life claim of 8-12 hours. Of course this depends on what your activity is. I was streaming Netflix for a time, watching movies from the SD card, listening to music, web browsing, ran a 2 hour defender scan and various on board apps. I got about 10 hours of battery life until I hit below 10%. I always like to deep cycle the battery for the first charge. It only took about (sort of estimating) 1.5 hours to fully charge back up to 100%. I think if you know what you are purchasing (it's not an I7 system with 16GB of memory!) and live within the capabilities this is one sweet notebook. I could not be more pleased. Of course I cannot predict long term reliability at this point.

Perfect for School

It's perfect for school - it's slim and doesn't take too much space in his book bag and doesn't add much weight. It's very basic but fits his needs. I bought a case for added protection. Very satisfied with this purchase,

Extremely slow after 1 month

Posted by: Anthony from on 10/01/2015I've had this computer for 1 month, and it's main purpose was to utilize Microsoft Office for projects, yet I've had nothing but problems with this laptop. I have a separate MacBook Pro for other purposes, which has been reliable going on 5 years now. Being on the internet on the ASUS is comparable to watching flowers bloom. Writing an e-mail? I will have to watch the letters populate 5 seconds after I've actually typed them, and most times letters are skipped because it wasn't picked up. Subsequently, I delete words to redact "mistakes," and it takes an equal amount of time to delete the sentence. Using macros in Access or Excess? I'll never try that again. It's extremely frustrating to spend $200 on a product that has not at least given me a year or so of reliability. Extremely disappointed that this product is being distributed.

Okay. Not much Storage
