Fast and Reliable SSD

Not the Next Big Thing, but Close.

Posted by: WrenandStimpy from Knoxville, TN on 11/11/2014Needing an HDD to finish a computer build, I made the jump and decided to purchase an SSD for Windows 8.1 installation. I kept waiting for prices to get to where they weren't cost prohibitive, and finally BB had the Samsung 840 Pro at a price I couldn't pass up. Overall, the item was easy to install and setup. Just pop into drive tray, secure with screws, reinsert into computer, and boot. That's it. On top of that, the Samsung Magician software is a great addition to an already stellar product. The software essentially monitors the health of the SSD and makes for easy checkup on the fly. Lastly, while boot time for Windows seems to be quicker, it isn't astoundingly fast as I thought it would be. Maybe I need to tweak settings a little more and see if it changes, but as of right now, this has been the only drawback. Maybe my expectations were too high considering all the rave reviews for SSD's. Anyway, regardless, still a great buy as the total package is well worth the cost.

Slow

My results were as follows Samsung 840: Timing cached reads: 22074 MB in 2.00 seconds = 11051.99 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 310 MB in 3.14 seconds = 98.68 MB/sec Crucial MX100 Timing cached reads: 30676 MB in 2.00 seconds = 15354.14 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 1200 MB in 3.00 seconds = 399.67 MB/sec My Samsung SSD is not any better than my old HDD. I'm going to replace it with an MX100

Great performance, still a good SSD

Posted by: Lionel from Austin on 10/16/2014It's not a new SSD but help me for an 'old' PC to keep good performance with W7. I prefered 512GB but too expenseve. Easy for installation, I see the improvments quickly. - 1 star : no accessories or just a software to clone your previous disk to put on the new SSD ( I found EaseUS Todo Backup Home, easy).
