Two approaches:
- Gestalt federations: There is a directory gestalt for each cluster of gestalts, and possibly directories of directories.
- Each new gestalt must make itself known
- Easier to deal with semantic mismatches
- Web crawling: Gestalts come on-line independently, and internet crawlers collect schema-level information about them.
- Use of agreed-upon ontologies would help a lot
