The Chevy Silverado 1500 has been totally redesigned for 2014.
Changes for 2013 are limited to two new exterior colors and the addition of powertrain grade-braking that uses transmission downshifting to ease stress and temperature build-up on the brake rotors.
For 2012, Chevrolet gives the Silverado full-size pickup a refreshed front end, available heated/cooling seats for the LTZ, and a new White Diamond Edition. Also new is an available navigation radio with built-in hard drive that eliminates the need for map data stored on DVDs.
Beyond an upgrade to OnStar 9.0, some new colors and some minor enhancements to reduce wind noise, there are no major changes for the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado.
The 4.8-liter, 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter engines are now E85 Flex-Fuel compatible; the 4.8- and 5.3-liter engines also gain variable valve timing. New standard features on all 1500 models include side-curtain and front seat-mounted side-impact airbags as well as StabiliTrak stability control. New available features include a USB port on all but the base radio, a six-speed automatic transmission on Regular and Extended Cab models with the 5.3-liter engine and greater availability of the backup camera option.
A six-speed automatic transmission is now paired with the 5.3-, 6.0- and 6.2-liter V8s. New available features include OnStar 8.0 with Turn-by-Turn navigation and Destination Download, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity and a rearview camera system. The 6.2-liter V8 is now E85 compatible and StabiliTrak becomes standard equipment on all trucks equipped with V8 engines.
Though its familiar sheet metal does very little to suggest otherwise, the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado is all-new from head to toe. It's what lies beneath the bodywork that counts, as the Silverado's improvements become immediately evident once you step inside. The revamped cabin is perhaps the quietest in the segment, and the use of higher-quality materials helps to spice things up considerably. A trio of new engines combined with significant chassis and suspension upgrades put the new Silverado on competitive footing with the recently redesigned Ram 1500, the forthcoming 2014 Toyota Tundra, and Ford's top-selling F-150. Fuel economy numbers are nothing to get excited about, but the 2014 Chevy Silverado delivers big on its promise of blending work-truck capability with everyday civility.
