A bi-fuel system is available on 2500 HD models with the 6.0-liter engine and extended cab. With it, the truck can run on regular gasoline or compressed natural gas (CNG). Also, the Duramax 6.6-liter V8 diesel engine is now available on 3500 HD chassis cab models.
The 2012 Chevrolet Silverado HD trucks make new strides for 2012, with Chevy claiming best-in-class accolades for maximum fifth-wheel towing, conventional towing and payload.
The 2011 Chevrolet Silverado HD's Duramax turbo diesel's power, torque, maximum conventional and fifth-wheel tow and payload ratings are best in class. Its fifth-wheel tow capability is 21,700 pounds, it can tow up to a 17,000-pound conventional load with its factory-installed hitch, and the Duramax is fully B20 biodiesel compatible.
Changes for 2010 are limited to a new USB port allowing music stored on a flash drive to be played through the vehicle's audio system.
Changes for 2009 include OnStar 8.0 which allows for Bluetooth capability and Turn-by-Turn navigation with Destination Download on vehicles equipped with the DVD navigation screen. A new rearview camera system is available on Extended Cab and Crew Cab models, and vehicle stability enhancement is added to the 2500 HD trucks with single rear wheels.
XM Satellite Radio is made standard on all models, while dual-rear-wheel versions receive 17-inch wheels. Regular Cab models now offer an available power driver's seat.
The Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD trucks are Chevrolet's line of heavy-duty pickups meant for hauling big loads and other applications where power is the priority. Like its GMC twins the Sierra 2500 HD/3500 HD and heavy-duty rivals from Ford and Ram, the Silverado HD comes in a variety of trims, from just-the-basics to versions with leather interiors and premium sound systems. Also like its rivals, the Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD can be had with a gasoline or diesel engine, the latter of which has exceptional but not class-leading towing capacity. For 2013, a bi-fuel system is available on the 2500 HD that can run on gasoline or compressed natural gas, the latter of which has the potential to provide cost savings depending on where fuel prices go.
