A 240-horsepower EcoBoost 2.0-liter engine is added to the 2012 Edge's powertrain list. Offered on the SE, SEL and Limited trims, the 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine features turbocharging and gasoline direct injection to achieve an EPA estimated 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. EcoBoost-equipped Edge models also feature active grille shutters, which close under certain conditions to improve aerodynamics. Also new is the availability of a passenger's 10-way power seat with power lumbar support.
For 2011, the Edge gets a major makeover, sporting an aggressive oversized three-bar chrome grille, new front fenders and a more modern interior. The 3.5-liter V6 sees a big jump in horsepower to 285, while the Sport trim's 3.7-liter engine boosts output to 305 horsepower. New options include Intelligent Access with push-button start, adaptive cruise control and a new driver interface system called MyFord Touch.
As gasoline prices remain high, more and more buyers are coming to the conclusion that sometimes less is more. If you don't need 3-row seating or a big V8 engine, a vehicle like the 2014 Ford Edge may solve most of your transportation problems. With its available turbocharged EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine, the Edge returns up to 30 mpg on the highway while sacrificing nothing in the way of power and acceleration. Those who have to live with winter's worst will appreciate the available all-wheel drive (AWD) and powerful V6, while enthusiast drivers will delight at the Sport model. However, because the Edge design is starting to age, it faces stiff competition from the likes of the Toyota Highlander, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
