For 2014, Hyundai adds its Assurance Connected Care telematics program to cars equipped with the available Hyundai Blue Link. The system includes collision notification, roadside assistance and Hyundai car care, among numerous other features. Also new are 18-inch wheels on the Genesis 3.8 and a heated steering wheel on the 5.0 R-Spec model.
For 2013, the fast, sporty and fully loaded 5.0 R-Spec model becomes the lone V8 alternative to the standard 3.8 V6. There is also a new 8-inch display with enhanced multi-media controller, and Blue Link telematics now accompany the navigation system (both standard on 5.0, optional on 3.8).
The big news for the 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedan is the introduction of the 429-horsepower 5.0 R-Spec sport sedan. The Genesis R-Spec features a sport suspension, transmission and steering calibrations, as well as unique 19-inch alloy wheels and dark chrome headlamp inserts. Also new is an 8-speed automatic transmission, which is standard on all trims. All Genesis sedans receive a mild exterior freshening. The 3.8-liter V6 engine gains direct fuel injection, which helps give it 333 horsepower, up from last year's 290.
Changes for 2011 are limited to the 4.6 model, which gains an additional 10 horsepower, a faster zero to 60 time (5.3 seconds vs. 5.7 seconds) and the addition of last year's Technology Package – navigation, Lexicon 7.1 Discrete surround sound audio, adaptive cruise control, adaptive headlamps, heated and cooled front seats, front and rear parking sensors and a rearview camera – as standard equipment.
Smart Cruise Control and an electronic parking brake with automatic hill hold are added to the Technology Package, while a new 7-inch navigation system is made available on 3.8 and standard on 4.6 trims. Ultra-premium leather seats are added to 3.8 Premium, Premium Navigation and Technology Packages.
The 2015 Genesis sedan is Hyundai's 5-passenger competitor for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series, Audi A6 and Lexus GS. With an elegant, modern look, more luxury and a new attitude, the all-new Genesis now available with all-wheel drive on V6 models is even better equipped to go up against these midsize luxury powerhouses than the first generation was. There is a strong emphasis on connectivity and infotainment, which should appeal to a younger affluent audience. What may be most impressive about the new Genesis, though, is the amount of standard equipment you get for a notably lower price than its competitors and even if you check every options box, the car is still a relative bargain.
