The 2012 Kia Sorento SUV adds an optional gasoline direct-injection (GDI) 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine to the lineup earning top marks for horsepower and fuel economy. Also new this year is the addition of YES essentials fabric that provides anti-bacterial, anti-soil and anti-static properties. Last year's base-model Sorento and manual transmission are dropped for 2012.

The Sorento LX receives a new 3.3-liter V6 engine good for 242 horsepower and 228 pound-feet of torque. A 3.8-liter V6 remains standard on the EX trim level.

The Sorento has a new, all-aluminum V6 engine good for 262 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The Sorento's interior receives revised gauge faces and center console, new wood trim appliques, active headrests and steering wheel-mounted audio controls.
