Stylized animation or rendering refers to the generation of motion or images that are intended to convey more than physical realism. Also refered to as Non-Photorealistic Animation and Rendering (NPAR or NPR), stylized renderign bring real-time graphics closer to traditional artistic styles, and promotes diversity in animations and rendered images.
My work in NPAR is related to animation and its rendering. I have explored techniques for generating traditional stretch-and-squash in real-time animation, and worked with students on methods for rendering smoke animations in a cartoon style. There are many ideas I would like to further explore, particularly related to the perceptual impact of traditional cartoon animation styles.
