Anthony Lane
The one person who gets the balance right, weighing parody and homage, is the composer, Joel McNeely, whose opening theme stirs hopes and memories that the movie cannot match.
James Berardinelli
A Million Ways to Die in the West feels like about 80 minutes of material was padded out to 110 minutes.
Wesley Morris
The movie, which MacFarlane directed and cowrote with Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, is clever about its anachronisms. You stay surprised.
Michael Sragow
In A Million Ways to Die in the West, director-star Seth MacFarlane builds an imposing, affectionate reconstruction of the American movie West, then defaces it with funny mustaches -- often literally.
Peter Rainer
If you measure a comedy by how many times you laughed, Seth MacFarlane's A Million Ways to Die in the West, at least for me, is a middling success.
J. R. Jones
Despite all the costumes, stunt work, and locations in Monument Valley, this big-budget western spoof by Seth MacFarlane is too glib to live up to its potential.

But for all its hit-and-miss jokes, there are lots of ways to die laughing at this Western raunchfest.

Clever but not hillarious I laughed most at Ralph Garmin's stupid reaction shots. It feels competent but not fantastic. Like a long TV show episode with a bigger budget. In hindsight, it is far better than those "blockbuster" movies with big budgets and horrible writing but during it you feel the same way.

Surprisingly disappointing From the previews it looked like this was going to be a hilarious movie. Unfortunately, all of the best parts of the movie are the ones shown in the preview; the rest of the movie is pretty bland. I'm not overly critical of movies (I think Dumb N Dumber is a classic), but this one was a let-down.
I enjoyed it! I really dug this movie! Granted, it wasn't the greatest, most funny movie in existence but it was chuckle worthy throughout and had a western edge that I could appreciate. I love how others like to take their opinions and claim them supreme tho. Don't knock someone for liking something that you don't. Opinions are just that, opinions. Takes many to make the world go round :)

Terrible I had high hopes for this movie, but after seeing it I was completely disappointed. Was too much of a bitchfest by Seth MacFarlane, he acted like a total tool the whole movie just bitching about the west from the point of view of a modern day hipster. I gave it two stars because it had a couple funny jokes.

Meh Not the greatest comedy movie I've seen. Timing was slow, slapstick and fill-in commentary was awkward. An attempt to create a modern-day epic comedy akin Blazing Saddles, or even Mavericks, but as a western comedy the aim is as bad as MacFarlane's character. He's done some great work, but this is not one of them.

The Gentlemens Choice..... A true gentleman always knows a great movie when he sees one. Although, this was not a "great" movie, it was funny. It reminded me in part, to "Blazing Sadles". That being said, it was funny, and not bad. A movie to watch with a case of beer, and some great friends. Not top shelf, but a great way to kill a Sunday afternoon. Thanks....... Loyally yours, Kurtis K. Cullen
