The violence quickly becomes numbing, and Benjamin Walker plays Lincoln without the sense of irony needed to keep the historical and supernatural sides of the story consistently entertaining.
Lisa Schwarzbaum
The movie plays safe by cutting every theme down the middle - a swing that's effective when splitting wood or vampire skulls, but dull when applied to filmmaking.
Richard Roeper
Of course it's ridiculous and tasteless and grotesque. It's ABRAHAM LINCOLN, VAMPIRE HUNTER.
Ricardo Baca
The disconnect between intention and final product is a head scratcher.
Eric D. Snider
Bekmambetov doesn't expect us to take the premise seriously, exactly. But he doesn't seem to want us to laugh at it, either.
Andrew O'Hehir
Bekmambetov ... stages hilarious, imaginative, almost free-form action sequences like nobody in the business.

A B movie treated like an A movie that mostly ends up being a zzzzzzzzzz movie.

Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Slayer A most rediculous improbable movie that looks more like a class project caught on video than a film. Sometime after he is elected, honest Abe is called into hiding along with his secret service men, to conduct the business of slaying vampires/zombies, a problem he is strangely familiar with. Dressed in black, he and his men carouse the countryside shooting, slashing their way through the silliest editing shots, the silliest costumes and zombie make up seen in a while. A plain dumb plot makes it all worse.

An enjoyable outing If you're a history devotee with no sense of adventure, stop right here, read no more and don't watch the movie; it will only give you heartburn. For anyone with a sense of adventure this movie brings action, delicious, gory, action. It is fun, it will take up almost 2 hours of your time, and there is an obvious drinking game. It's not going to win any academy awards, but then it wasn't made to win any.

Good movie, terrible interpretation The book was so much better!! I know many people may feel that way about a lot of books turned movie, but this movie is seriously lacking a lot of then action and history and back story of Abe as a child, teenager, father and President. The ending was awful; compared to the novel ending, this left no room for interpretation on how Abraham Lincoln's life ended.... If you have a vivid imagination, then seriously read the book!
just bad lets drive a horse drawn carriage through an old colonial house and rescue everyone from the super fast vampires and make a u turn from said colonial house like a drifter turn like a car from the fast and furious and some how escape un scratched from the super fast vampires. fast forward 20 or so years and finally get visited from vampires and kill abes son. the directors of this move are worse than the director of return of the king. i want my money back and all hard copies of this movie burned. seriously i cant unsee this.
Yeah they just did that. So here I was thumbing if you would through the movies available to watch and here before me sat a very b-movie titled Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter .I never thought I would say this but everything from the action packed sequences and dialogue have created a totally believable world where vampire are hunted by one of our greatest presidents Honest Abe dishes out hard hits wielding my new favorite weapon the gun axe while being accompanied by his childhood friend whom is trained in the styles of John-Wu-esque fighting. If it isn't enough for you then you must have seen something better than a fight scene done in the middle of stampeding horses.
Unfortunate Knowing what Timur Bekmambetov is capable of, and loving his other movies (particularly Day Watch), I really wanted to like this movie despite all the reviews I read. Sadly, those reviews were right. Of course the action scenes are excellent, that's to be expected, but the "historical' aspect of the film is so ham-handed that it is a real distraction. The pace of the narrative is so clumsy that I was reminded of those "Drunk History" videos on youtube; it's that bad. I know that both the director and the writer are capable of better. I look forward to giving them another shot with their next films.
great action movie It was a great action movie; but the book was so much better. The movie deviated from the book more than any other movie adaptation of a book I was ever seen. It was pretty much two completely different stories; so much so that it detracted a lot from the movie for me. Not to say that the movie wasn't good; I did enjoy it.
Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter I like it. It's different than the vast majority of vampire movies. I appreciate any good movie that dares to go beyond typical Hollywood formula. I'm finding it harder to find good movies. I'm sick of Hollywood's tried and true storylines just written solely based on past success. I find them boring and unwatchable! This is an original concept, not to be confused with the zombie movie with a similar name.

Awesome This is right up there with some of the great vampire movies. I liked it as much as Blade, Underworld, Dusk till Dawn and Vampires with James Wood. Nothing like the ridiculous Twilight movies and there latest Breaking Wind, I mean Breaking Dawn. I went in expecting a very bad movie but left pleasantly surprised. Thanks Tim! Very well done.
Great Symbolism This movie was outstanding not for special effects necessarily, but for the way symbolism was used. If you look at vampires as a symbol, you can appreciate the movie on a completely different level. The vampires represent the entire system of slavery - cheap, fresh blood that was easily disposed of - a system fiercely defended by those who benefited from it. And yes, Abraham Lincoln did not have a black chief of staff/sidekick, but he represented Lincoln's committment to the equality of all men before the law. Essentially this movie uses intense symbolism to tell a story of what truly DID happen in another way, not unlike Tim O'Brien's fantastical re-interpretations of Vietnam. In my mind, this is what sets this movie apart from other vampire/slasher films.
A script-director disconnect This movie is quite dumb, and my main bone to pick with it is that it doesn't know it. A dumb movie can be fun, but usually only if you get the sense that the filmmakers knew that they were making a fun action movie. But this is one that is done with technical excellence and deathly seriousness. Maybe it's a big deadpan joke that I missed. I doubt it though. There just was a disconnect between the script and the director, who clearly wanted to make different films. The one they made grows quickly boring, and for all it's technical brilliance can't make up for the fact that has no plot.
Eh... Ok, so it starts out ok, middle is blah, even the ending was bah. I seriously think I threw up a little. Don't get me wrong, the visuals were good, but that's it. There is very little this movie has to offer other than i wasted my damned money and I swear to all things holy I will never buy a movie from Google Play again... I mean come on. I don't know what Wesley is smoking, but the acting is far from good, the storyline is just typical Abe Lincoln story with vampires thrown in, it's utter garbage. I think I'm being EXTREMELY generous with a one star rating. Don't rent it, don't buy it, don't even waste your time if it ever makes it to cable. Wait till it hits ABC or some crap like that. It's just that bad.

Great book ruined by a terrible movie The book does such a great job making it seem as though it could be a true story. It was very well written, using a great blend of facts and fiction that you are never quite sure what is actually true. The movie was made to be like "the matrix" starring Abe Lincoln. Very poorly done, terrible job in following the plot and developing characters. The special effects they were trying hard to showcase were even sub par. Don't waste your time.
So so As I am a huge Lincoln buff and loved the book Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, the movie (i.m.o.) deviated way to far from the book and left out crucial moments, such as the ending of the book (which was the best part). I was willing to give 4 stars, but it was a bit far out from the book... in fact it pretty much didn't have anything even remotely similar to the same story line... maybe i just enjoy books far to much... And what is with this movie only being available to buy???
I loved this movie!!! When I first saw the preview of this movie I just knew I had to see it and it was going to be good. When this movie finally came out in the theaters I saw it and WOW I was NOT disappointed! The story line was great and so was the action. They didn't make Abe out as a superhero nor did they distorted his character as a man or as a president. Yes, we all know Abraham Lincoln has "honest Abe" a man with integrity. And I know it's hard to see him anything but what we know of him from the history books. However this is the beauty of movies...the what if's...The movie director came up with this idea of giving him a revengeful side and it was foretold in the movie beautifully without distorting his image or character as the President of our nation. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie so much that when it came out on Google play I purchased it and downloaded it on my computer. I loved this movie!
No Totally disrespectful treatment of one of our greatest presidents. Saved our nation, murdered by a coward and now stupid movies like this? Pathetic.
Well written I cant stand vampires but this movie was a nice twist on history....its funny how people call the premise stupid but these are the same people who love true blood, the walking dead, being human....its a popcorn flick so if you see it as such, then you wont be disappointed
Loved it! An imaginative take on American history. Violent, humorous and well written.
