Save your admiration for the performances, especially Lawrence, who is now Hollywood's most important presence in front of the camera.
Joe Neumaier
It turns out that comb-overs, cleavage, cocaine and kookiness are an unbeatable combo.
Lisa Kennedy
Director David O. Russell and co-writer Eric Warren Singer grab hold of the FBI's long-time Abscam sting (conducted in the late '70s into 1980) as their kernel of truth, then Jiffy Pop it like mad.
Tom Long
Ambitious even as it studies, exploits and explodes ambition, "American Hustle" is as good as any American film this year. It's also a lot of fun. Don't miss it.
Steven Rea
American Hustle is a movie built on that cornerstone of the American Dream, reinvention. If you're not happy with who you are, or who people think you are, then go ahead and become somebody else....
Michael Sragow
The source of this movie's galvanizing intrigue is that the characters remain in play -- they never settle into place

Expectations Not Met I ordered this on my TV and watched it in HD, the best way to watch any movie so that was good. Content-wise, the movie was long and was somewhat boring. The cast was excellent and so was the acting however the story was simply boring. The trailer made the movie look much more interesting than it really was, I hope that's not how they nominated this movie.

Good Movie Worth Watching Good movie, personally I thought it was going to be about something different but the story told was still interesting. Great cast Bale, Cooper, Renner & Adams all pull off top notch performances. I think this is the 1st movie that I've ever seen C.Bale over weight typically he's either ripped or skinny as hell. Overall great movie to rent.

REVIEW SECTION NOT COMPLAIN SECTION Great movie, great story telling, great director, and best of all a great great cast, should have won Oscar for best movie, of course they give it to a story about slavery because they are still trying to make the African Americans feel better, LOL, JK. THIS IS A REVIEW SECTION BTW , REVIEW THE MOVIE, NOBODY CARES IF YOU'RE BROKE AND CAN'T AFFORD THE MOVIE, IF YOU CAN AFFORD A SMART PHONE THEN YOU CAN AFFORD THE RENTAL. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE A SMART PHONE IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO RENT OR BUY THE MOVIE. CLOWNS

Waste of Good Money and Valuable Time Win awards; God I hope not, because it would reveal just how out of touch movie critics reviews are with reality... Though I do have to admit the cast did the best they could with such a poor story line. I want my money refunded! A Total Waste of Good Money and Valuable Time...
Could get better It was a good what could get a lot better they come good movies and bad but this one could get better
Enjoyable but far too long for it's own good. Although it was enjoyable to watch for most of it, it's pretty forgettable. It's well shot, acted, and the production and costume design are great but it is simply too long for it's own good. I thought it was going to end at least 3 times before it did, the first time it turned out I had an hour left to go! If it was 40 minutes shorter it would've easily gotten a 5 from me but due to the languishing pace and, at times, overzealous camera movement I can't give it that. Simply put, this movie is exhausting.

Best play and dialogues It is sad that so many people rate it 1 or 2. Maybe they expected some shootings, fights, car chases, etc. In my opinion the movie is brilliant. The plot is a bit complex, so it might be hard to grasp if you do not pay attention. Bale's character is awesome! Also, the film is very stylish.
Diane K. Incredibly boring and disappointing. Jennifer Lawrence touted as the best actor in the show when all that stands out to me is she is AGAIN trying to appear older then her youthful 23. Wrong shoe size! The stand out actor to me was Christian Bale, convincing and charismatic, but I felt like I was watching a very redundant Ironside episode. Waiting it out for some inflection of excitement was a waste of a Friday evening.

FEEL GOOD CAPER MOVIE David O Russel summons up his superb stable of actors for this laugh out loud 70s caper film with one of the greatest soundtracks to go along with it. I can't count how many times I've watched this flick. Great twist ending! Don't pay any attention to the haters that don't get it.

Terrible Waste of time. Acting was OK but story line was terrible. How this is getting the reviews it is... If you rated this more than 2 stars then you have NO idea what a good movie really is and I'm sorry for you. This movie was far too long and slow moving to be worth Redbox @ $0.99, let alone $4.99 here. I will never trust any nominated movie again.

Fantastic Film Fabulous cast, wonderful storyline, and incredible acting! This is a film that should not be missed. A different twist on a true crime film. Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and Amy Adams all played characters that were different than most of the roles I've seen them in. Christian Bale most definitely pushed the envelope look-wise. (That comb over and beer belly was classic!)

Excellent writing, direction, music, acting. Everyone is excellent in this film. Best line: Oh god how I love getting to know you! I didn't see the Oscars, but this is the absolute best work I've ever seen from Christian Bale. I mean he nailed every detail of his character. He just made that character extremely unique compared to other films. Never pictured him as dramatic comedy, but he was excellent.
Blown away The acting was Excellent! Everyone was good in this movie, but how Christian Bale did not get nominated for Best Actor is a head scratcher. I think Bradley Cooper was, and he was good, but Bale's character was memorable. I was very impressed-the soundtrack, the storyline, the acting...this flick gets a B+.

Perfection I'm black and I literally cannot understand how 12 Years a Slave won best picture at the Oscars over this. The cast was superb except Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams who were okay Bale and Cooper were excellent, but Jennifer Lawrence's character Rosalyn was perfect her character absolutely made this movie for me she should have won the Oscar for this role over Lupita Nyongo, baffling.

Noted theater director Sam Mendes, who was responsible for the acclaimed 1998 revival of Cabaret and Nicole Kidman's turn in The Blue Room, made his motion picture debut with this film about the dark side of an American family, and about the nature and price of beauty in a culture obsessed with outward appearances. Kevin Spacey plays Lester Burnham, a man in his mid-40s going through an intense midlife crisis; he's grown cynical and is convinced that he has no reason to go on. Lester's relationship with his wife Carolyn (Annette Bening) is not a warm one; while on the surface Carolyn strives to present the image that she's in full control of her life, inside she feels empty and desperate. Their teenage daughter Jane (Thora Birch) is constantly depressed, lacking in self-esteem, and convinced that she's unattractive. Her problems aren't helped by her best friend Angela (Mena Suvari), an aspiring model who is quite beautiful and believes that that alone makes her a worthwhile person. Jane isn't the only one who has noticed that Angela is attractive: Lester has fallen into uncontrollable lust for her, and she becomes part of his drastic plan to change his body and change his life. Meanwhile, next door, Colonel Fitts (Chris Cooper) has spent a lifetime in the Marine Corps and can understand and tolerate no other way of life, which makes life difficult for his son Ricky (Wes Bentley), an aspiring filmmaker and part-time drug dealer who is obsessed with beauty, wherever and whatever it may be. American Beauty was also the screen debut for screenwriter Alan Ball.
