The slick satire cleverly equates materialism, narcissism, misogyny, and classism with homicide, but you may laugh so loud at the protagonist that you won't be able to hear yourself laughing with him.
Desson Thomson
It's hard to summon up enthusiasm for a performance so rooted in bloody banality. I mean, as Patrick, Bale's most emotionally pressing dilemma is: Chainsaw or butcher knife?
David Edelstein
American Psycho is nearly perfect for what it is, but before we go on, we should ask what that actually amounts to. Can something with so rigid a thesis be a real work of art?
Richard Corliss
It needs to be seen and appreciated, like a serpent in a glass cage.
Dennis Harvey
Harron's Psycho reps an impressive reclaiming of dubious material.
David Ansen
Conceptually, this savage cartoon ends up as trapped in surfaces as its shallow antihero: it's all dressed up with nowhere to go.

The film makes wonderfully unsettling entertainment; crucially -- and gloriously -- Bale nails Bateman with a sublimely dead-eyed and deadpan performance.

All time favorites Just awesome, this movie actually got me into all the author's books as well. Brett Easton Ellis is a mastermind. If you liked this you have to check out some of his books. All are good but some are beyond words. Thought I'd share a tidbit DiCaprio turned this role down to do the Beach in 2000. Bale is just a stud in this movie.
The Classic Transgressional fiction reaches its apex with American Psycho. Bret Easton Ellis' gory satire could have so easily been completely misunderstood and presented as a horror film. This couldn't be farther away from that genre. In fact, she translates the two MOST horrific characters in the book, Phil Collins and Huey Lewis and the News, with subtlety and class that epitomize the gory, gruesome, genteel 80s.
Great film Bale's portrayal is uncanny, darkly funny and often disturbing. Ruthless and cool at the same time. Excellent commentary on materialism, the emptiness of fashion and style, as well as business in the 80 ( and now I would suppose).
Very strange movie! I almost turned it off a couple of times, but but I stuck with it. I once you get past the cheesy dialog lines, and and actually start to look at the character for what he is, then I started to enjoy the film. Christian Bale acting is superb roll as a crazy, out of touch psychopath! Overall, I a pretty good rental, and very convincing!

A fascinating look at the American psyche Director Mary Harron's film, adapted from Bret Easton Ellis' novel, is a deep delve into the shallow and, yes, psychotic mind of Patrick Bateman as he frets over the inadequacies of his business cards and goes on terribly bloody killing sprees. It's horrifying, but if you can stomach it American Psycho is also a fascinating look at the American psyche.
Doesnt work mytouch 4g Dont use this until they iron out all the kinks. Took my money and all i get is an error message. Refund form is long and i got no response or confirmation after sending it. Buyer beware.
American Psycho One of my favorite books. One of my favorite movies. Like it so much, I even wrote a song about it on the White On White Crime compilation. Pure awesomeness.
Greatest! One of the greatest. Classiest films of all time. Murder with sophistication.
Awesome app Great messaging app it has a lot of cool features and is verry customizable
HORRIBLE No stars, weird plot and even worse ending. Movie was compiled by chimps. Don't waste your time. To bad it had to star Christian Bale.
Thanks,Me Christian Bale, I think he was a superb,Upper class killer with body to prove it,But to have a breakdown. And no is listening to yah!! What can you do. Put down the plastic and point out HueyLewis and the news, Chop your coworker up because he just didn't get it. Rich people that absorbed in theprotacal of what your bus.card is made up to read, paper weight, egg shell,etc..Reese didn't get it either But secretary has his back!! That one of his best roles he was completely into it, he definitely GOT IT!(lol)
Dope! The book is a relatively tough read, with the description of what all characters are wearing dominating the underlying story. I think that the movie reduces the book to its essence, and adds a punch of dark humor that was missing from the book. 5 stars...Bale is a stud.
Gripping Tale Christian is phenomenal as always. Shows you how seemingly normal someone so twisted can be. I own the movie and is a must see
First timer Worked fine...a little stupid but I kept watching. it was only a quarter so I'm not going to complain. Don't press watch now until it's downloaded because it takes like 12 hours to download.
Love it! I saw it a few weeks ago after I bought the movie....I LOVE IT! Its amazingly twisted and dilightfully dark
Lousy Bale does a great job. Story is interesting but falls apart in the end.
Huey lewis and the news... Music to axe murder to. Good job Bateman!
