Richard Roeper
A sometimes wickedly funny but ultimately sour, loud, draining tale of one of the most dysfunctional families in modern American drama.
Tom Huddleston
This star-studded loopy melodrama is brash, foul-mouthed, self-consciously offensive, intermittently insightful and has a gaping hole where its heart should be.
James Berardinelli
August: Osage County is all about the acting. That makes sense because the storyline doesn't offer much that could be considered new or remarkable.
Connie Ogle
August: Osage County is easier to watch on screen, and maybe for that we should be grateful. But there's also something to be said for sitting shell-shocked afterward, shaken and relieved to be...
Liam Lacey
Although a couple of performances here may earn Oscar nominations, by the time you've sat through the wreckage, you're left with the sense that this really must have worked better onstage.
Tom Long
Letts loves manic people, twisted situations and barbed lines that cut with glee and he's disturbingly good at delivering all three.

Excellent Film!!! I really enjoyed this Meryl Streep film; (She never ceases to amaze me, with her acting), her personality is a true gem! This film portrays a perfect example, of a dysfunctional family in Osage County. It makes you stop and reflect on your own personal family issues; no family is perfect. What I learned from this film (hidden message); no matter what you go through, family comes first... WATCH IT!

One of the best acted movies I've ever seen Its funny if you've never lived this kind of life if you've never been a poor child of an alcoholic if you don't come from dysfunctional people you think the story is extravagant and overacted! Basically this was my life,I came from very ignorant, poor, racist, pedophile, alcoholics, insest, abusive people! You have to rise above it!! My sister and myself were the first people to go to college in my family going back 100 years. Not everybody has that Norman Rockwell life and I'm telling you this is is true to life this family is boring compared to the white trash I come from!! As a 40 year old man this is why I did not have children so they wouldn't have to put up with my crap and baggage!!

Poignant Moments in a Painful Landscape Stellar acting, but a dark dark tale to be sure. If you are looking for something uplifting, don't look here. Performances turned in by Streep and Roberts are off-the-charts-amazing, but Chris Cooper is perfectly cast and seems to be the only safe haven in cast of misfits. Julianne Nicholson is a revelation and Margo Martindale has never been more engaging. It's worth a watch but be prepared to be eviscerated by Streep who rivals Joan Crawford for her Worst Mother of All Time role here.
THIS MOVIE IS NOT A COMEDY!! This movie is well acted but it is beyond depressing. I don't get how it was billed as a comedy when this is actually high family drama. There is only one part that is anywhere near the realm of funny and in actuality it is pretty dark but it was the only moral highlight of the film. Plus the screenplay is awful as is the direction. Don't be fooled, you will cry (real genuine sad tears) more than laugh during this movie.

Good movie but... It makes Oklahoman's look like complete psychopaths. Not to say that we are not but we should be given the opportunity to say that ourselves!! Just saying... Anyways, enjoyed the movie and loved all the A-list actors. Worth seeing but not more than once in my opinion. (No offense to the actors in case I meet one of you one day)

Not The Mother Daughter Flick I Expected This was not what I expected. I thought it would be a movie about a mother and her daughter and their disjointed relationship; but it was something else. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but if you're looking for a feel good flick, this is not the one -- for that you should rent/buy Steel Magnolias.
