Wesley Morris
I didn't like anything about the movie before discovering what Guy is up to. I actively hated it after I figured out what was actually going on.
Robert Everett-Green
The laughs in this film are all mean-spirited or just frat-boy gross.
Peter Howell
Almost unrelenting in its takedown both of an American institution and the country's obsession with victories big and small, Bad Words is more misanthropic fantasy than satiric fiction.
J. R. Jones
Trashy, ribald laughs in the Bad Santa vein, this marks Bateman's directorial debut; it's not much to look at, but at least he has the nerve to push the insolence, profanity, and brutal insult humor to its absolute limits.
Rafer Guzman
In his directorial debut, Bateman casts himself as a foul-mouthed, racist jerk. It's a stretch for the nice-guy actor, but the role doesn't suit him.
Colin Covert
While Bad Words is only sporadically funny, Bateman throws himself into the role without shame or ego. The film is also his directing debut, and a very capable one.

Bad Words = Good Movie!!! Wanted to see this when it was in theaters but missed it. Was worried that it might be like so many in it's genre, all the funny bits in the trailer but was greatly surprised. Jason Bateman really embraces the douchebag character and delivers sooo many laugh out loud lines! And yet, there is still a heart beating at the center of the story. His weird friendship with his co-contestant C. Chopra is a genuinely sweet one.
Solid comedy. Not used to seeing Bateman act like such a jerk but he surprisingly played it well. I laughed quite a bit at how much of a douche he was to everyone but you slowly understand why he is that way. And all the while develops an awkward friendship with a 9 year old. Didn't expect it but thoroughly enjoyed the times they shared the good and bad were hilarious. Through all the laughs there is still heartfelt moments leaving you with a smile when it's over. Fun flick worth a watch
Best movie in the universe I was so excited this movie finally came out. I had high hopes about this movie and I gotta say, I was not disappointed. Every second of this film was amazing. I defenetly recommend this film if you love raunchy, mean, funny, and inappropriate humor. The story was really good, Jason Bateman is a geinus.
Bateman has real comedic genius After seeing Bateman in Horrible Bosses, I was looking forward to see how far he could stretch his comedic abilities. This film definitely showed his skills off. His character's callus and bitter attitude is truly felt throughout the film. In the end, when you are trying to figure out why he is that way, you get a plausible (albeit somewhat predictable) answer. Definitely worth renting.
Aside from potty mouth... NOT 5 but worthy of a good performance. This movie had a true under lying factor in all. Mistakes can be made and cause an individual to start off with plan out of anger but later realize there is more to life then revenge. Subtle q's from Jason Baton are so funny but he really puts his heart into his performance. LOVE IT!
I Loved this movie! Main character Guy Trilby (anagram for guilty bry!!) is the complete opposite of the politically correct, living-vicariously thru their children's accomplishments, "lets all play Fair" other members of his age group in this story. His ambition is honest and not cloaked by sham obeisance to expected norms. To those critical I say - "It's a Movie people!! It's Not even a documentary, it's for our Entertainment and I, for one, find sticking a pin in the phonies in all "youth" contests Hilarious!!
