Nolan takes an admirable stab at developing a character-driven drama, only to give in to generic action-movie conventions with a blinding, deafening, explosion-laden finale that could have capped off any number of interchangeable Jerry Bruckheimer flicks.
Joe Morgenstern
Batman Begins summons up moments of great eloquence and power. If only its cast of characters was as fully inhabited as its turbulent city.
Owen Gleiberman
It's not just the birth of Batman we're seeing in this triumphant interpretation, it's also the dawning of Gotham City's age of greed.
Desson Thomson
Here's how any great franchise should start: with care, precision and delicately wrought atmosphere.
Ken Tucker
A nonstarter.
Keith Phipps
A rousing, reverent, often brilliant re-creation of a seminal comics character.

Without the biff! bang! pow! of pop signifiers, this intelligent, well-made film is too heavy to transport us anywhere but down the dark hole of its good intentions.

A Poor Beginning...but All and all not a BAD movie. Not (Christopher) Nolan's best of the trilogy - we all know which one was the best - but it was entertaining. Bale plays a great Dark Knight, and Morgan Freeman works as Lucien Fox. I guess I was expecting a bit more "Oomph" from this, which is why I was a bit disappointed.
Not the best of the trilogy I say that TDK is def the best of the trilogy and without doubt one of the best movies of all time, and TDKR is the worst of the trilogy but still a decent movie. Therefore this one falls right in the middle. Very good movie, 3rd best Batman film out there (TDK, Batman (1989))

Good Movie This movie was amazing. Bale was amazing in it. Neeson was amazing in it. Gary Oldman was amazing in it. But the only think I didn't like about the movie was that they were out of focus in the action sequences. And there were a lot of quiet scenes were you couldn't hear much. But I thought they did really well with the movie.

A great start to the reinvention of Batman I admit to not liking this movie originally but it has grown on me over the years. It actually gets better with the movies that followed it although it still isn't my favorite of the "trilogy." Liam Neeson is always a favorite and his role here is tons of fun to watch. Think of this one as the "birth" of Batman, wrinkly skin and all.
Muy bueno, my friends This is definitely a great beginning to a truly epic trilogy. Up there with the original Star Wars and LOTR. This is more than just another comic book movie. Thank you Mr Nolan. I just wish Google Play would let you buy it, not just rent it.

So sick on so many levels I'll just say this... Nolan is a brilliant film maker and he had my undivided attention from the very first scene, and it never wavered. Not for a second. This is the way the story of batman should be told. Thank you for being a real film maker. There are so few of you left. Cheers, Jason Alexander

A GREAT BEGINNING TO THE START OF THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY! CHRISTIAN BALE DELIVERS A GREAT PERFORMANCE AS THE CAPED CRUSADER! D.C. COMICS FINALLY GOT IT RIGHT! I THIS VERSION OF BATMAN! The origin movies are sometimes boring and you don't get to see much action, but this movie was very good for an orgin movie i was really impressed! GREAT WORK D.C. COMICS!

The Batman is back After having been mistreated in Batman and robin this refreshing rabbit delivers with the origins of the bat we all know. The only weakness of the film is the really bad camera angles in the action scenes you can't see what's going half the time and the dark atmosphere doesn't help at all...even so it hardly detracts from the movie

Bad acting story went to far back and raz al goul was never in the begining and scarecrow never wore a suit and a patato sack over his head and had gas in his hands. It was going to far back into the story and towards the end the actor loss character and went a little high in his voice so I give it a 1 star movie.
The Movie That Started It All ..... If your looking for a superhero movie that is somewhat believable, fun, smart and action packed this movie is it. Great origins movie, prequel to TDK
Good Origin Story When comparing Batman films, I have to talk about the origin story, this is the origin of Batman in The Dark Knight trilogy. It's an epic reboot and good film in general. So much better than the third movie. The origin of Batman is rarely shown in movie form, so it's nice to see the origin of Batman in a reboot and I'm hoping the next Batman reboot is an origin story for that particular series. Watch the movie and compare with Rises, you'll see why this one is so good. Only gripe is the action scenes are kind of... edited poorly. The camera's so close to Christian Bale it's really poor handling of action scenes.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures "The Dark Knight Rises" is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act. But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane. MPAA Rating: PG-13 - 2012 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. and Legendary Pictures Funding, LLC.
