In his second "talkie" the immortal Buster Keaton displays his comic genius in full regalia. The addition of his deep, rich voice only serves to make his numerous pratfalls and outrageous mishaps all the funnier. World War I is underway and young men are eager to enlist. Elmer J. Stuyvesant (Keaton), a rich man about town, has no such plans, but one day while looking for a new chauffeur he accidentally enlists in the Army. The uniform appeals to a young lady he's been eyeing, so he decides to tough it out. Classic gags and slapstick shenanigans highlight Elmer's tour of duty as he strives to be a hero to his country and win the heart of the girl he loves. Keaton's priceless scene as a female Apache dancer is a definite highlight in this amusing and original tale of wartime services.

Not even the joys of parenthood can stop married sleuths Nick and Nora Charles from investigating a murder on a Long Island estate.

Two of comedy's greatest masters -- Buster Keaton and Jimmy Durante -- appear together in this effervescent and irreverent slapstick about a couple of regular guys trying to cash in on the end of Prohibition. Durante is a barber who talks Keaton, his dim-bulb taxidermist buddy, into spending his life's savings on a brewery. Determined to be first, they start making beer before Prohibition is actually over. That makes their "competition" bootlegging thugs -- something they didn't count on! Then, Buster falls for one of the gangster's molls, the cops get into the act, and Keaton and Durante have to figure out how to get out of the beer business before they're done in! From a story by Robert E. Hopkins (Anita Loo's screenwriting partner on San Francisco), this timely farce, directed by veteran Edward Sedgwick, was called "one solid riot of laughs...Rowdy and hoodlum fun" (The New York American).

Screen legend and Academy Award-winner Joan Crawford ("Mildred Pierce," "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?") stars as a strong-willed woman who leaves the drab existence of her family life to take up with a gangster and soon learns the error of her ways.

Andy's prideful position is more than encouraged by Bingo's Uncle Ben (Ernest Torrence), who seeks to scuttle their love match. In addition to its pre-Code costumes and situations, Untamed also boasts Robert Montgomery's first leading role and two songs sung by the throaty Joan "Chant of the Jungle" and "That Wonderful Something is Love" (a duet with Mr. Montgomery!).

Before he gained his fame directing cinematic masterpieces like The Manchurian Candidate and Seven Days in May, John Frankenheimer made his feature film debut with this sensitive father-son drama about troubled youth. When clean-cut Hal Ditmar (Hawaii Five-O's James MacArthur), son of a wealthy movie producer (James Daly), gets into a fight with a movie theater manager (Whit Bissell) no one believes he acted in self-defense. With the police concerned that they have another juvenile delinquent on their hands, Hal's mother (Kim Hunter) thinks the problem lies in the growing gulf between father and son. Heartfelt and effective, Frankenheimer's already sure hand at the helm and the talent that star MacArthur shared with his illustrious mother Helen Hayes buoy The Young Stranger above the common ground of 1950's delinquency dramas.

A Star is Born marked Judy Garland's return to movies after a four-year absence, director George Cukor's first musical and first color film, and a showcase for great Harold Arden/Ira Gershwin songs in state-of-the-art stereo. Alec Guinness has double trouble in this stylish mystery thriller costarring Bette Davis, based on the novel by Daphne du Maurier (Rebecca). When John Barratt (Guinness) meets Count Jacques De Gué (Guinness again) while vacationing in the South of France, the lonely university professor can't believe his eyes...the Count is his exact double! But when Barratt awakens after a night of heavy drinking, he finds De Gué has vanished, leaving the professor in his place. Unable to convince anyone that he's not the Count, Barratt has no choice but to go along with the sham, fooling De Gué's friends and family, including his drug-addled mother (Davis) and jittery rich wife (Irene Worth). But it's only when he uncovers the Count's marriage contract that Barratt slowly tumbles onto De Gué's scheme: to murder his wife, run off with his mistress (Nicole Maurey) and dispose of his gullible double.
