Great! I feel I actually learned a lot from this movie! Normally when I think of movies I think of cool graphics, stupid story lines, and the feeling of emptiness and frustration because 2 hours just went down the drain. This was different; I felt each moment of the movie was well spent- I really got to know about the billionaires in person, and that would have been very difficult without Jamie Johnson's production! I commend his effort, and I commend how truthful everything is about his production. Sharing vulnerabilities is not a easy thing, nor is publicizing yourself (which can only happen so successfully given the special status). I tip my hat to everyone for their honesty

Smart I was suprised to see this documentary on the google videos recommendation. This is a honest, eye opening documentary of people born into monumental wealth. The various interviews of some well known and some not well known characters give you a balanced take away of whats to be like on the elite wealthy list.

Respectable OK. So it's cool to learn something new, and it makes Jamie Johnson (the author) look like he wants to do more than just the self tax cutting donations that his family gives. But come on man, if you REALLY wanted to make a difference and be about something more than money, then we wouldn't have to pay $6 for a bottle of bug spray any longer and single mother's would be able to afford your childcare products. gimme a break.

Peek into insane wealth Well this certainly didn't make the 1% look like they know what life is like for the 99%. Although the film maker and the Vanderbuilt heir impressed me and both offer hope that blue bloods aren't all self-centered brats. Luke Weil and the Italian model d bag are both doomed in life I think, regardless of what they can buy.

Quite insightful Definitely gives you a unique perspective into a world only few take part. With all their wealth they are still just human.

Chasing Beauty
A rare glimpse into the dark side of modeling, Chasing Beauty speaks with supermodels, photographers, agents and the like in a quest to answer one of the industry's most complex questions: What is beauty and is it worth the cost? Each year, thousands of hopefuls begin the pursuit of their modeling dreams, but how many actually succeed, and how long does success last? For many who try, there is no shortage of collateral damage along the way. Beauty is a billion dollar business, but consumers aren't the only ones paying the price.
Forks Over Knives
What has happened to us? Despite the most advanced medical technology in the world, we are sicker than ever by nearly every measure.
Two out of every three of us are overweight. Cases of diabetes are exploding, especially amongst our younger population. About half of us are taking at least one prescription drug. Major medical operations have become routine, helping to drive health care costs to astronomical levels. Heart disease, cancer and stroke are the country's three leading causes of death, even though billions are spent each year to "battle" these very conditions. Millions suffer from a host of other degenerative diseases.
Could it be there's a single solution to all of these problems? A solution so comprehensive but so utterly straightforward, that it's mind-boggling that more of us haven't taken it seriously?
FORKS OVER KNIVES examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the so-called "diseases of affluence" that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods. The major storyline in the film traces the personal journeys of a pair of pioneering yet under-appreciated researchers, Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn.
One Lucky Elephant
Sixteen years have passed since David Balding adopted Flora, the orphaned baby African elephant he lovingly raised as part of his family and made the star of his show. As Flora approaches adulthood, he realizes that she is not happy performing. Ultimately, David must face the difficult truth that she is not "a dog or a daughter" and needs to be with other elephants. The road to Flora's retirement, however, is a difficult and emotional journey which tests their bond in unexpected ways. Ten years in the making, One Lucky Elephant explores the human-animal bond through one man's love for his elephant.
Miss Representation
Like drawing back a curtain to let bright light stream in, Miss Representation (TV-14 DL) uncovers a glaring reality we live with every day but fail to see. Written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the film exposes how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America. The film challenges the media's limited and often disparaging portrayals of women and girls, which make it difficult for women to achieve leadership positions and for the average woman to feel powerful herself.
In a society where media is the most persuasive force shaping cultural norms, the collective message that our young women and men overwhelmingly receive is that a woman's value and power lie in her youth, beauty, and sexuality, and not in her capacity as a leader. While women have made great strides in leadership over the past few decades, the United States is still 90th in the world for women in national legislatures, women hold only 3% of clout positions in mainstream media, and 65% of women and girls have disordered eating behaviors.
Stories from teenage girls and provocative interviews with politicians, journalists, entertainers, activists and academics, like Condoleezza Rice, Nancy Pelosi, Katie Couric, Rachel Maddow, Margaret Cho, Rosario Dawson and Gloria Steinem build momentum as Miss Representation accumulates startling facts and statistics that will leave the audience shaken and armed with a new perspective.
Blackfish
Killer whales are beloved, majestic, friendly giants, yet infamous for their capacity to kill viciously. Blackfish unravels the complexities of this dichotomy, employing the story of the notorious performing whale Tilikum, who — unlike any orca in the wild — has taken the lives of several people while in captivity. Blackfish expands on the discussion of keeping such intelligent creatures in captivity.
Muscle Shoals
Located alongside the Tennessee River, Muscle Shoals, Alabama has helped create some of the most important and resonant songs of all time. Overcoming crushing poverty and staggering tragedies, Rick Hall brought black and white together to create music for the generations. He is responsible for creating the "Muscle Shoals sound" and The Swampers, the house band at FAME Studios that eventually left to start its own successful studio known as Muscle Shoals Sound. Gregg Allman and others bear witness to Muscle Shoals' magnetism, mystery and why it remains influential today.
Brooklyn Castle
Imagine a school where the cool kids are the chess team! Welcome to I.S. 318. This irresistibly uplifting doc tells the stories of five members of the chess team at an inner city junior high school that has won more national championships than any other in the country. The film follows the challenges these kids face in their personal lives as well as on the chessboard, and is as much about the sting of their losses as it is about the anticipation of their victories. These are kids that you will not soon forget. A FilmBuff Presentation. MPAA Rating: PG
