Desmond Ryan
As the star of the new, epic-scaled Braveheart, Gibson celebrates yet another man of selfless valor. And as its director, he displays some daring of his own.
Jami Bernard
A lavish, entertaining spectacle full of manly men, dastardly villains, rousing battles and women who easily see Mel's hero potential through all that messy hair.
Gene Siskel
In addition to staging battle scenes well, Gibson also manages to recreate the filth and mood of 700 years ago.
Jay Boyar
Mel Gibson throws his whole heart into a role. No one acts with more conviction, and his errors are honest ones.
Anthony Puccinelli
Braveheart has a gut-wrenching, bone-breaking, sword-thwacking verve.
John Hartl
Many movies deal with battlefield heroics. Few seriously attempt to define heroism.

In this mix of historical tragedy and hip adventure, Gibson may be as galvanic a movie swashbuckler as Errol Flynn and Burt Lancaster were in their day.

Crappy Heart Another father son team who are Very Anti-Semetic, So do not award him anymore royalties for any of his movies. This all started with"Passion of Christ" and one line from Matthew, about blood on your hand ? Whatever, after Mel got out of rehab for alcoholism, he went back to reading whatever older version of The New Testament, then does the blame game since Jewish People have been in movies longer then him and his father together. I hope he has to keep paying for movies out of his own pocket. Idiot.

Epic Despite his foolish, drunken rants, Mel Gibson makes a movie that set the standard for medieval war epics. This is a romance, action, drama movie all tied together with outstanding plot development and characters you can't help but believe. Great everything, hence all the awards! Must see for all!
Epic Epic film! Being Scottish myself this movie brings chills to me every time. One of Mel Gibson's best performances ever
Best movie ever. Ur a dumb jerk if you don't think this movie is awesome!
Wallace, Wallace, Wallace, Wallace Love this movie. I am from the Wallace Clan and I am very proud and very inspired by this movie. Why someone wouldn't be awed by William's passion and conviction for freedom would confuse me. Wish we had more leaders like that in the world. It would be a better place if we did have people like William Wallace. He is the example of patriotism that this country needs.
One Of My Favorite Films I Like It Because Of Mel Gibson's Direction, Randall Wallace's Screenplay And James Horner's Score.

Gladiator
A man robbed of his name and his dignity strives to win them back, and gain the freedom of his people, in this epic historical drama from director Ridley Scott. In the year 180, the death of emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) throws the Roman Empire into chaos. Maximus (Russell Crowe) is one of the Roman army's most capable and trusted generals and a key advisor to the emperor. As Marcus' devious son Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) ascends to the throne, Maximus is set to be executed. He escapes, but is captured by slave traders. Renamed Spaniard and forced to become a gladiator, Maximus must battle to the death with other men for the amusement of paying audiences. His battle skills serve him well, and he becomes one of the most famous and admired men to fight in the Colosseum. Determined to avenge himself against the man who took away his freedom and laid waste to his family, Maximus believes that he can use his fame and skill in the ring to avenge the loss of his family and former glory. As the gladiator begins to challenge his rule, Commodus decides to put his own fighting mettle to the test by squaring off with Maximus in a battle to the death. Gladiator also features Derek Jacobi, Connie Nielsen, Djimon Hounsou, and Oliver Reed, who died of a heart attack midway through production.

Noted theater director Sam Mendes, who was responsible for the acclaimed 1998 revival of Cabaret and Nicole Kidman's turn in The Blue Room, made his motion picture debut with this film about the dark side of an American family, and about the nature and price of beauty in a culture obsessed with outward appearances. Kevin Spacey plays Lester Burnham, a man in his mid-40s going through an intense midlife crisis; he's grown cynical and is convinced that he has no reason to go on. Lester's relationship with his wife Carolyn (Annette Bening) is not a warm one; while on the surface Carolyn strives to present the image that she's in full control of her life, inside she feels empty and desperate. Their teenage daughter Jane (Thora Birch) is constantly depressed, lacking in self-esteem, and convinced that she's unattractive. Her problems aren't helped by her best friend Angela (Mena Suvari), an aspiring model who is quite beautiful and believes that that alone makes her a worthwhile person. Jane isn't the only one who has noticed that Angela is attractive: Lester has fallen into uncontrollable lust for her, and she becomes part of his drastic plan to change his body and change his life. Meanwhile, next door, Colonel Fitts (Chris Cooper) has spent a lifetime in the Marine Corps and can understand and tolerate no other way of life, which makes life difficult for his son Ricky (Wes Bentley), an aspiring filmmaker and part-time drug dealer who is obsessed with beauty, wherever and whatever it may be. American Beauty was also the screen debut for screenwriter Alan Ball.
