Wesley Morris
Peirce wants to make a hit, and, even with source material this strange, it feels as though she has. But if so, that's all she has made.
Cath Clarke
Chloe Moretz is unnervingly talented, but Carrie is not a role she was born to play. She hasn't a victim's bone in her body and fluffs the early scenes.
Christy Lemire
It is a timeless thing for all of us, the ritual of high-school expectation and heartache. Once again, as it did nearly 40 years ago, Carrie turns it into an experience of biblical proportions.
Richard Brody
The movie is very good, both as a first-order viewing experience and as a contemporary gloss on Brian De Palma's classic 1976 adaptation of Stephen King's novel.
James Berardinelli
Rather than fixing some of the problems with De Palma's approach and trying something fresh, Peirce compounds them.
Peter Rainer
Peirce is gifted, but she lacks the ability of directors like DePalma to transform schlock into something deeply personal.

The new Carrie isn't atrocious - just flat and uninspired and compromised by the kind of mindless teen-movie "humanism" that De Palma so punkishly spat on.

Can't they make good remakes anymore? Are you people kidding ! This movie is an insult to the originals. I can't believe I waited this long for a remake. Not only was it boring as hell! But the acting was terrible and a huge disappointment! Grr I'm so frusted. They try way to hard with 'special effects' and being to holly wood. The blood scene with carrie was ridiculous . nice try.but huge miss.

FREAKIN' AWESOME The "horror" doesn't really kick in untill the end but that's what's good about this movie. You kind of feel for the characters when they die and its actually intense. For the most part the movie is just kind of creepy but in a calm sense. So in the end of the movie you're sord of tricked into believing that the killing is brutal and you're actually scared. In other words this movie is totally worth it.

Better in theaters Some of the more visceral scenes are better on the big screen, and frankly the visceral impact is all it has over the original, I actually cried in the theater. Something doesn't come across at home. I love Julianne Moore, but she doesn't have the convincing insanity of Piper Laurie, and Sissy Spacek was a more believable outcast than confident Chloe Grace Moretz, who I liked better in Hick.

A true meaning of rage. While the movie isn't truly scary or necessarily horror and added only little more from the book and takes some away, overall, it is an amazing display of pushing a innocent student to his/her limit. There was more character development, a bit more creativity in here as well, and you can feel the emotions for Carrie as well. And the deaths felt necessary and satisfying. Which is what makes this movie not a classic sadly, but a display you will remember.
Wonderful!! I really think you should watch this. This is the best version of all the "Carrie" movies, including "Carrie: The Rage". Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore are absolutely perfect. This really isn't scary. This movie is more of a "drama" type of movie. Yes, it is like the 1976 version, which is like the book. I wont give out any spoilers, so all I'm going to say, is I highly recommend this movie. You will be pleased 100%.
Pleasantly surprised! Firstly.. Yes its a remake but not a reboot and at least half the viewers are not even aware of this nor are concerned about it. And rightly so! (I'm not suggesting that De Palma's vision should be forsaken AT ALL but let's put it aside) k then.. Foremost what stands out is the acting by Julianne Moore AND Chloe Moretz which i felt was exceptional for the genre (please dont hate me 4 saying that :/ ) Also the fx are excellent! And of course the screenplay, based on Steven King's novel, JUST ENJOY IT!

Not so good I really didn't care for this version. Of course I saw the '76 version, and not only was the acting better, but I feel the climax and suspense was there which this film imo is missing. No suspense or build up to the climax. Things just sort of happen. There wasn't a chilling unraveling of events like in the original version. Although I feel the younger audience will find this version more suitable.
Brillant Movie. A MUST WATCH WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!!! This was the best remake of a movie I have EVER seen.Phenomenal performances from Chloë Grace Moretz (Carrie White), Julianne Moore (Margaret White), Judy Greer (Ms.Desjardin), Gabrielle Wilde (Sue Snell), Ansel Elgort (Tommy Ross), Portia Doubleday (Chris Hargensen), Alex Russel (Billy Nolan), and congrats to Kimberly Pierce(Director)Great Job. I'm a BIG fan of the original movie and the book, I personally thought it was better then the original. 1 of my fav movies ever!!!!!!!
