The mechanism is the message in Cloverfield, a movie so aluminum-sleek, ultra-portable, and itsy-bitsy sexy, it's amazing Steve Jobs didn't pull it out of an envelope at Macworld.
Richard Roeper
I had a lot of fun with this inside-out take on the monster movie.
Anthony Lane
Under the modern flummery, behind the faux amateurism and the handheld shudder, Cloverfield is a vastly old-fashioned piece of work, creaking with hilarious contrivance.
J. R. Jones
The fleeting, incomplete glimpses of the monster early on prove the old dictum of B-movie auteur Val Lewton that a momentary image can have greater impact than a prolonged one.
Stephanie Zacharek
Maybe we now live in a world where we record the moment first and feel it later. If that's the case, Cloverfield leaves us waiting to feel.
Peter Howell
Smartly reconjures the 1950s monster movie for the digital age.

Great movie I love the how the creature looks and the fact that the camera shakes a lot is good too the fact that if something like that hsppened you wouldn't be able to hold a camera steady with all the running and panicking you'll be lucky at all if u can even hold one that's the point of tbe shaky camera, i really love movies that are done like this
Divisive Some think it's the worst, some love it (like Blair Witch Project), I'm on the "love it" side. It's more than a "Godzilla" movie, because most people care about the characters, not just the destruction. End leaves you wanting more, more clarity, more background, just like a great ending should (for those of us who don't want everything tied up neatly in a bow). You owe it a viewing, uninterrupted!
One of the better monster movies It has focus and vision and never really lets go of its momentum once it starts up. As bad as some "first-person perspective shaky-cam" movies can be, this actually delivers thrills and emotional impact. All in all, a decent giant monster movie.
Better than I suspected The shaky camera is too jarring in theaters but much less so on a tablet screen, so motion sickness was not an issue. The suspense is quite good. I couldn't stop till it was finished. Reminded me a little of District 9 in regards to the style.
Fun, Scary, Creative Enjoyable movie highlighting a group of friends as they face a horrible monster.
Surprisingly Thrilling Great movie, didn't think it would be as good as it really was. The film resonates if you've ever lived or spent a substantial amount of time in NYC, some of street scenes with all the confusion and mayhem are reminiscent of 9/11. Great movie all-around.

Saw in theatre.. Was sitting close to the front and spent half the time looking down at my feet because the jittering around drove me nuts . Kept waiting for it to smooth out it, just seems like it never really did. I do have to admit though when I saw that creature it was just disturbing.. in an evil dark way for some reason. Not sure why.
Keep watching. You won't regret it This movie starts off slow and boring. But about 30 minutes in it really grabs your attention. This movie is nothing like I've seen before and was worth renting. I gave it four stars due to the movie having a boring beginning but other then that it worth the rent. Enjoy!
Sorry Movie I got this thing expecting to see a good syfy and was disappointed. I wasted my money renting it, worse movie I've seen.
