Not since Bambi's mother was killed has there been a cannier movie for kids than Conan the Barbarian.
Vincent Canby
Conan the Barbarian is an extremely long, frequently incoherent, ineptly staged adventure-fantasy set in a prehistoric past.
James Berardinelli
Even 17 years after its release, Conan the Barbarian still weaves a spell capable of ensorcelling fans of fantasy adventure.

The best Barbarian flick ever!!! As a loyal Robert E. Howard fan and Conan disciple, this film has achieved a rightful place as the best sword/barbarian film ever made. From Milius's superb direction, to the excellent cast and quite possibly the greatest musical score ever composed...Conan the Barbarian simply crushes all their enemies, sees them driven before it and hears the lamentation of the women.
Emperor Victor von Doom
John Milius dropped the ball several times (Conan was supposed to fight the skeleton in the crypt for the sword, parents weren't murdered, no, "Wheel of Pain" etc. in the books) but by Crom vastly, infinitely superior to the Jason Mamoa remake! Arnold's, "... age undreamed of" was gritty. Jason's wasn't. This film feels like a period piece, whereas the remake was aimed at youth who'd never (probably can't) read the R. E. Howard book! With all its flaws, still definitely the best sword-and-sorcery film to date!

The best by far! I saw some people referencing the "new" Conan as a better version. I can assure you that the author Robert E. Howard would be turning in his grave if he read that! Arnold portrays Conan as he really is: a sword arm for hire that dabbles in thievery and is scared of magic! Arnold is true to the comic books as opposed to the "new" Spike TV Conan.

This is the best I'm not sure what the negative reviewers are smoking, or if they are actors in the new, awful version of this, but THIS is the definitive Conan the Barbarian. Nobody replaces Arnold. How would you feel about a remake of the Terminator without Arnold? It's a travesty what they did in the remake.
The only Conan How anyone can even compare the new piece of s*** Conan to the old Conan is beyond me. but I read reviews and there actually people out there saying how great the new Conan is and how terrible the old Conan is.OMG . please get a clue get and education and get a sense of loyalty to conan . Google should given an IQ test to anyone willing to put a review up on the board.
The reloaded version is 100 times better! If you want to watch a true to the story of Conan movie see the newest with Jason Momoa! It is NOT a remake! The movie stayed true to the story & Momoa embodies Conan much better than Mr. Caleeforneea did!
A masterpiece! I love this movie! In fact, the truth is that there's no single movie of Schwarzenegger's that I don't love. The very best!! "I'll be back..."
GOAT Greatest Of All Time. One of my favorite movies that can never be remade. Conan took us to a time when men were men and who better to fill that role than Arnold.
CRAP!!!! No character development with corny acting and screenplay :P
