While not for the squeamish, Dredd 3D is an effectively gritty B movie accentuated by stylish visuals and irreverent humor.
Stephen Whitty
We have seen this future. And not only does it not work - it no longer even surprises.
Frank Lovece
Proves a surprisingly unimaginative cops vs. drug lord story, complete with the weathered veteran forced to take a rookie under his wing.
Kyle Smith
My notes are as follows: "Shoot bad guy." "Shoot bad guy." "Shoot bad guy."
Sean O'Connell
This, finally, is the Dredd movie comic book readers have been anticipating.
Mark Olsen
Smartly cast and with a sharp team behind the scenes, there is no good reason why "Dredd 3D" is such a clunk-headed action picture.

Every so often there's a suggestion that a police state may actually be a lousy idea, but this thought dies even faster than the disposable characters.

Awesome!!!!! This is as close as it will get to the comic book story, and the movie is great from start to finish. Dredd is not your typical hero movie. He's just plain badass, no nonsense, and doesn't shy away from the brutally gruesome violence that it depicts in the comics. A must watch and have for fanboys and action movie fanatics.

Scowl and guns. One of the few movies I really regret watching. Things happened, but I never cared at all. I've had monotonous days at work with a better plot than this. I've been more entertained watching gold fish swim around their tank. And no, special effects cannot ever redeem a movie. If special effects were really that important, you'd think that real life would be more impressive to us.
I love this movie! Because of the 90's film "Judge Dredd" I stayed away from this film while it was theaters. Only after my friends told me what a great film it is, then I saw it. And I can safely say I deeply regret not seeing this film in theaters. It is one of the best action films I have seen in a long time and more accurate to the comics.

not what I was expecting, thats good..... When I think of Dredd, Sylvester Stallone and Rob Snyder come to mind. This is because the horrible PG-13 film in the 90s did a great job at murdering the comic book. This film is a hard R with storyline directly inspired by the 2011 film, The RAID: Redemption. I say if you saw that film, you pretty much seen this film already. Anyways, this is the graphic novel brought to life with real violence and none of the silliness of the first film. The Sci-Fi aspect isn't too overbearing since his partner has a special ability which similiar to that in LOOPER. Too bad Google Play hasn't formed relations with most film studios to allow a purchase option for its customers. This along with Dark Knight are must buys but not available on this site.
Great. I bought this movie because I thought it was just going to be a remake of the one with Sylvester Stallone. After the first few minutes I realized it wasn't. I haven't read the comics but I have heard this is closer to the comics than the other one was. I totally did not expect for this to be so good. It is like a crazy action packed killing spree. But it also has a cool story, and is pretty nasty too. Most of the actors are really great as their characters.
Wow... This was a train wreck of a movie lol I was... laughing but not with the movie... It was at it in a bad way! I'm speechless lol one of the worst put together, over budgeted disasters ever! I love these types of movies usually but this one is garbage. I should have gotten paid to watch it. I lasted 35 painful minutes.

Judgment: Pretty good This version is hands down better than the old movie. It's a bloody movie that focuses a lot of detail to gore that may turn some away. Slow motion tends to make scenes more epic and artistic... I found myself focused and immersed during the bullet time action. I'm glad they didn't overdo using this effect. Dredd is a great movie for someone looking for a shoot em up action.
Save your money... I walked out This movie was so bad... I walked out of the living room. I sat there for about 40 minutes and my roommate was falling asleep. I woke him up around 45-48 mins and he agreed, turn this crap off. He had downloaded it too, so it wasn't my sweat off a either our backs to walk out on this garbage movie. I went to bed, it wasn't worth staying up to watch. The dialog is ridiculous, 45 mins in and title was just stupid. The movie tried to milk the 3d effects but without a 3d tv its just stupid.

Blood? Carnage? And makes you forget the Stallone version? Yes, please! The world of Dress is both unabashedly brutal and wicked. So when the hellish, crime-infested Megacity 1 - a true hive of scum and villainy - needs a judge, jury, and executioner to keep the peace, there is no substitute for the tough-as-nails Judge Joseph Dredd. 2012's visceral reboot of "Dredd" returns the titular character to his more gritty roots from the comics and takes audiences for a gruesome albeit exhilarating roller coaster thriller with a solid story and performances from the cast.

The soul of a new machine... Citizen Kane this is not, but then if you're looking for something that's going to sweep the Academy, you'd be a fool to fall for this one. This version, far superior to the Stallone original, manages to capture the ugly verisimilitude of John Carpenter (Assault on Precinct 13 instantly comes to mind), which some Bay-esque flights of hyper-stylized violence. I can imagine someone suggesting that the lack of any strong themes or character arcs suggests vacuity. I would say it's a feature as opposed to a bug. The "another day in the office" quality of the ending justifies he film's aesthetic choice to make Dredd a flat character. This is a film that is about the setting, not the minuscule characters that inhabit it. And what justice is possible when institutions have decayed to such a measure? What can an action film say about the consequences of disaster and the end of social hope? It's the likes of Dredd, a pure agent of necessity, a pure action film without recourse to philosophy or sentiment, a machine. And the soul of this new machine is the machine itself.
GOOD MOVIE Yes effects are great!!!!! Acting good, action... well its all action lol just veryyy entertaining. a must watch if your into action. action action action, kept me glued to the screen. Watched it with my father 43, sister 18, and myself of course am 22. My father and I loved it and were very into it. My sister texted half of the time, but when she looked, she thought some scenes were gory but cool as well. I recommend watching this movie, thoroughly enjoyable.

Exceptional, worth watching For one thing, obviously superior to the 90's version. It's a very accurate adaptation of the tone of the comic. Very dark and violent, which could be off-putting for some, but there's a very subtle undercurrent of humor to it. It's not a black comedy or anything, but the very downplayed lightheartedness makes it clear that while it's brutal and dystopian, it's not some satire preaching a message or trying to be provocative. While the violence is constant and graphic, it's really never exploitative; there are no extended scenes of mutilation or torture, it just pulls no punches about showing people being killed and injured. The plot is basic, but effective; little variety of locations, but good direction keeps setpieces interesting. It's not a highbrow film, but it has bits of well-done character and theme showing that it has its head on right, and avoids a lot of mistakes action movies often run into. It plays a few predictable cliches rather underwhelmingly straight, but also has its moments of subversion and cleverness. If it sounds like your sort of thing, it probably is. Given its underwhelming profits so far, I think it's great that it's this popular here.
Karl Urban absolutely rocks as Dredd Saw Dredd in 3D at the cinema and it was stunning. Watched it last night on bluray 2D and it was stunning. Karl Urban rocks as Dredd. The effects are fantastic, the action amazing and despite the simplicity of the story, the world created here pulls you right in. Its a ruthless, brutal world and Dredd is the ideal peacekeeper for it. Its a very grim and simple setup. Locked in a tower, Dredd and his psychic trainee Anderson fight their way to the top. Its just another day at work, no glamour, no super villain. They're all human. Even the bikes sound right. No whizzy jet sounds, just throaty engines with guns on them. Overall, great sound, visuals, action and a fantastic cast.
