J. R. Jones
The serious Catholic themes that made the original film genuinely disturbing have been flattened out into a cartoonish backstory pitting Merrin against Nazi storm troopers.
Reams of tedious exposition finally give way to a random jumble of horror movie clichés, rising to a shrill pitch of hysteria that is never remotely frightening.
Ron Stringer
Blood, flies, maggots, ravenous hyenas, power failures, grave-digging and much ineffectual voodoo ensue.
Michael Atkinson
As shocking as an Dokken album cover and, finally, as pious as The Passion of the Christ.
Geoff Pevere
Never feels like anything other than generic, brain-dead, Dolby-jolt, multiplex hackwork -- I kept expecting Skarsgard's habitually catacomb-prowling Merrin to bump flashlights with Lara Croft.
Glenn Lovell
It rates fairly high on both the Scare-O-Meter and Gross-Out Scale, with an early hyena attack guaranteed to have you flinching in terror.

By the time the three or four false endings are finished and the credits roll, moviegoers will be left wondering whether Schrader's version will be released on DVD.

Great effort Honestly the film had a lot of interesting parts. It had some things that could've been scary but it just didn't quite have the same mood as the original. But its not a bad film; minus some lack of acting abilities it was good. When I read a negative review I feel its because this film wasn't scary enough or like the original.

My cat ruined my DVD with this movie in it & I know how she feels about it. This movie is a remake of first one which doesn't seem like a horror movie at all. This one was very creepy until he faced the possessed woman at the end. Her face seems blue like a smurf was weird & acting was so disappointing a nice effort put into this movie seem pale compared to that weird moment.

Stephen King, IT!

It can be anything. A fanged monster that won't stay on the movie screen. Something ominous lurking in the basement. No matter what your biggest fear is, no one knows It better than Stephen King. Based on the King Of Horror's 1986 bestseller, It is a jittery, jolting excursion into personal fear. A malevolent force in a small New England town takes the shape of a clown, but he's not clowning around. Instead, he terrifies youngsters and brings some to their untimely doom - until some wily kids fight back. The evil resurfaces 30 years later: meaner, angrier, deadlier. And friends who vividly remember youthful terrors reunite to fight It.
