What should've been a joyful romp turns into a stale, sour-edged celebration of the New Conformist, an affluent, technology-addled cherub without a rebellious whim in his brain.
Jay Boyar
It is most curious that Hughes, who is obviously clever and talented, has failed to develop the intriguing situation he has set in motion.
Carrie Rickey
[While Risky Business] suggested that money isn't everything, Ferris Bueller insists just the opposite.
Gene Siskel
A film that doesn't seem to know what it's about until the end.
Richard Schickel
Here is a dream as old as adolescence, and it is fun to be reminded of its ageless potency, especially in a movie as good-hearted as this one.
Variety Staff
Ferris Bueller exhibits John Hughes on an off day. Paucity of invention here lays bare the total absence of plot or involving situations.

The overriding impression is one of utter nihilism, of a world divided into bored, crassly materialistic teenagers and doltish, unfeeling adults.

Classic Just an all time classic. If Ferris Buler were a high school student today he would still be cool. Glad to see a movie that proves that some things don't change like your younger siblings annoyingly getting away with everything and you hate them for it, but when worse comes to worse you still team up when it comes to family. Love this movie.
An all time classic! I've watched this film so many times and have not grown tired of the zany antics Ferris pulls off! Love it!
Great Movie Missed a lot of school because of this movie.

Paramout start pricing your movies correctly All Paramount movies are 1799 for HD which is outrageous for these older movies especially. $12.99 is the sweet spot for HD. get with the program guys. People get mad on Google that certain movies are for sale and some are not. Its up to the producers to allow the sale its not in Google's control.
Movie from over 25 year ago, still a hit I consider this one of the top 10 movies of all times. Laugh out loud funny and serious messages to. Take a day off, have fun and watch this.
