This is what you get, San Francisco, with all your douchey, flashy, dot-com money: You get stomped on by Godzilla.
Christopher Orr
Godzilla handles everything the military hurls at him: ships, guns, planes, rockets, even a squadron of HALO paratroopers. The only thing that can cut him down to size is being relegated to a supporting role in his very own movie.
Anthony Lane
The beasts just want to have fun, but the gravest letdown in Edwards's film is that, most of the time, he fends off the chance to have fun himself.
Bob Mondello
We're here to see the film's leading lizard, who is pretty gorgeously realized by an army of digitizers, even if he seems just a bit-player in his own movie for the first hour or so.
Alex Pappademas
The first truly joyous popcorn action movie of the season.
Peter Rainer
It's a tad better than the 1998 Godzilla, perhaps, but that's not saying much.

It's a smooth, sleek, technologically awe-inspiring 3-D blockbuster with a top-shelf cast (speaking middle-to-lower-shelf dialogue most of the time, to be sure, but they do it with style).

Long live the King. Period. 2014's Godzilla is a solid adaptation of Japan's Gojira for modern day audiences. My main and only gripe with this movie was the overuse of the human characters - while the film's climax NEEDS them, the rest of the film tries to establish a subplot to link them with the MUTOs, but it falls flat...which happens in almost every Godzilla film to date. Fast, epic action, amazing special effects, and a soundtrack worthy of the King make this one a must-see film. Forget the naysayers - Godzilla is back.

Garzirra Godzilla is a visually stunning film that kept me entertained the whole way through. Several people have.complained that it focuses too much on the people and too little on the monsters, but this really just adds to the intensity of it. The people seem extremely fragile, so there are several tense moments when you know that there is simply no hope for them. The Play Store's description of the film makes me laugh, though, claiming that it is "realistic." There is nothing realistic about a lizard this size.

Its ok The cgi is what made this watchable. It was definately better than the 98 one. What I didn't like was how they followed the humans more than giving more history on godzilla. The final fight was ok, but they kept cutting away from the fight which was really annoying. Its a decent movie worth watching but I wouldn't pay 15 bucks for it. Just rent it you'll be better off.

All Hype I had high hopes for this one. The trailer was pretty good. I thought I was going to get an intricate plot with some examination of Godzilla's origins. Nope, not here. The same old dry characters with reused themes from other so called major productions. What are we teaching in writing and directing schools these days, definitely not imagination, but more of a template. What distinguishes this movie from pacific rim or any other movie of its type. This movie is no different than any other large production. If you absolutely must watch it, wait until its a $3.99 or less rental.
God awful The only decent part was Bryan Cranston's fantastic acting abilities everything else is horrible. The CGI scenes are so dark and vague it may not even be CGI maybe just a couple of guys in cheesy 80's costumes smashing around a Lego city scape in some garage some where. But you can't tell its so dark

What is wrong! This is great I don't see why some people are being so hard on this movie. The effects are outstanding, great details and texture in the animation. the acting wasn't perfect but it wasn't that bad trust me I'm an actor myself and I've seen a lot worse acting than that. This deserves every last ☆ no matter what other people say. I know good effects when I see em trust me
Glad Godzilla is Back! I was so pumped for this movie. After I saw it, I couldn't help but feel somewhat disappointed. For a 2 hour movie, I expect at least 20-35 minutes of godzilla sprinkled in there. Too much focus on humans, misuse of really good actors (Bryan Cranston and Ken Watannabe for sure), and a not very interesting lead from Aaron Taylor Johnson. Tom Hardy would've made his generic story better. Godzilla is amazing with the 11 minutes you see of him(seriously only 11 minutes). Still, it's entertaining and fun.

Pathetic This movie would've been better if Michael Bay had directed it, and he doesn't have a clue about making good movies. But his shallow, flashy action sequences would've at least served to liven up what was very possibly the most boring monster movie ever made. It was so awful. Godzilla got about 12 minutes of screentime, and most of that was him being dumb and slow. However, we got to see plenty of horrible acting. From literally everyone. Even Bryan Cranston. I hate this movie.

Great American Depiction of Godzilla I really enjoyed this version of godzilla. The story is simple but keeps you entertained. The characters are fun to watch and the actors do a great job with them. For the first time i felt godzilla was HUGE. The creatures were different with a little been there seen that but they were still cool to watch and its only the beginning with this series so hopefully more classic monsters to follow. Overall this movie was one of my favorites of the summer and happy to own it on my phone now

The King Redeemed After the travesty of 1998's "Godzilla", which reduced the King of the Monsters to an oversized Iquana, this film returns Godzilla to his roots. Gone are the terrible SFX where one min Godzilla is a titan whose feet are immense enough to fit people between his toes; the next a taxi barely fits in its mouth. The horrendous acting has been replaced by powerful performances from the likes of Bryan Cranston who loses his beloved wife to a nuclear disaster caused by unknown but monstrous forces. A must see film.

Good show, too many humans I very much enjoyed this movie, it is a different take on the origin of Godzilla, not bad just different. I did think that they focused far too much on the human side of the show. I didn't go see this movie because Bryan Cranston is in this movie, I went to go to see this movie because Godzilla is in this movie. I'm not gonna give any spoilers or anything about how much Bryan Cranston is or isn't in this movie but, I was very interested too see giant monsters duke it out, because giant monsters duking it out is awesome. If you're going to see this movie for story, stop right here, there isn't much. They tried to give it a story line and appeared to give up on that about halfway through the movie, which is good because that's when the monsters started fighting.

Great, but so close to being fantastic This movie is really good, however some things really held it back. The main actor, Aaron Taylor Johnson, is so uninteresting. They replaced Bryan Cranston's amazing story and development with Aaron's "gotta prove himself and save his family" storyline. Also, there were few less monster fights. I get it, it's going for a more dramatic and less campy approach, but to constantly cut away or tease at the many epic fights that none of us get to see is boring to newcomers and insulting to fans of the franchise.

Much Better Than the Hater Reviews May Lead You To Believe! Much better rendition of the classic 1958 original Japanese Gojira than the Roland Emmerich-directed bloated 90's version. Emphasis on the human drama obscures and delays the appearance of the monster. Once it is on-screen, the CGI is great and fights exciting, but maybe edited to fit a time requirement. Bryan Cranston is great and so is Juliette Binoche's brief and sad cameo. Second installment is due in 2016.
Not that great The critics raved about this movie. I found it to be pretty cheesy. They tried to hard to make Godzilla into a serious and dramatic action flick. But for me I just reminisce about the old Godzilla movies. When it was so bad it was good. This is just so bad it's bad. It is miles better than the Mathew Broderick one though. That movie was an atrocious nightmare. If you want to be dazzled by special effects than this will deliver. It's just everything else about it wasn't that palpable.

Not the greatest Godzilla movie, but worth the watch TLDR - Decent movie, some spoilers below * * * I have watched Godzilla movies for quite a long time. I was excited by this movie and bought it via Google Play. The movie does not have a tremendous amount of Godzilla time. It does attempt to build upon a story. However, I felt the story was choppy at points and did not have a solid flow. The "final showdown" was too short but well done. However, one of the monsters was unable to fly and had the most narrow legs. It was difficult to fathom something that large not falling all over the place. Ken Watanabe is a fantastic actor and was far too limited in his dialog. Bryan Cranston was incredible. The rest were 2-dimensional and lacking in any qualities to either love or hate them.

This is how it was supposed to be! A more realistic (thanks to CGI) version of the original Godzilla series. We are all seen as irrelevant to Godzilla and the supernatural creatures of his world. That the creature saves us is a byproduct of his war against the unnatural parasites that his kind have been fighting for millennia. Great FX and a compelling backstory make this a fantastic reboot to an engaging early cinema series.
$14.99 FOR THIS??? This was a joke plain and simple, and it was definitely ON ME as I ponied up more than I ever have for a movie here. Oh and save "The Haters" rebuttal crap to, tired, tired, tired of hearing that line as well.GOD I HAD HIGHS HOPE IT WAS GODZIL LA! AND BRAND NEW FOR CHRIST-SAKES!!! Wrap up, character involvement non existent, like the Asian boy cared for by main actor for 30 minutes parents spot him, actor walks away! What DID HE ADD? PLOT MUDDLED AND ZERO COHESION, Crown Jewel 8 minutes of fighting.AHHHHH

Godzilla 2000
A thick fog covers the seashore. Suddenly, as if out of a primeval dream of terror, a massive reptilian form obscures the window of a lonely lighthouse. It has razor-sharp teeth in a gargantuan mouth; claws that can cut through steel; a roar that echoes back through the centuries; dorsal fins that resemble crimson lightning bolts; and fiery breath that incinerates everything it touches. Soon, all in the creature's wake is utterly destroyed, and a terrified Japan can only wonder where this monstrous beast will next appear. Godzilla, king of the monsters, is back. This time it faces a formidable new foe in Orga (aka Giant Alien Millennian), a gigantic, lethal creature that has slowly transmuted from a UFO believed to be dormant for 6,000 years. © 1999 Toho Co., Ltd. Godzilla: Final Wars (Dubbed)
Godzilla's 50th Anniversary project and costliest adventure to date out of 28 films. Earth has been relatively peaceful since Godzilla was successfully buried deep in ice beneath the South Pole. Then - sometime a few years hence-several of his old nemeses return to wreak havoc on cities worldwide. A huge spaceship suddenly appears and neutralizes all the monsters in a blink. The visitors are "Xiliens," who take human form and announce they would like to negotiate a peace treaty that would replace the United Nations with a "United Universe". They are indeed too good to be true, however. It doesn't take long before their nefarious real purpose is exposed - conquering Earth. Greatly outmatched, Earth officials decide to de-freeze Godzilla as man's only hope to vanish the invaders, as well as the monsters they control. Only trouble is Godzilla is still mad at man for freezing him in the first place. © 2004 Toho Pictures, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju.
