The result, though undeniably preferable to yet another misbegotten installment of the long-exhausted franchise, certainly doesn't compare to John Carpenter's landmark original film.
Ben Walters
It's inanely-scripted exploitation, sure, but this 'Halloween' doesn't trivialise; it even returns with sympathy to one victim minutes after the attack that has left her bleeding on the floor.
Kyle Smith
The Batman Begins of slasher movies, and one of the more frightening stabathons of recent years.
Joshua Rothkopf
As if spooked by the long shadow of suburban killer Michael Myers, the director has all but dropped his organic camera style, resulting in exactly the kind of bland, scareless remake the fans were fearing.
Owen Gleiberman
It's a decent diversion.
Richard Harrington
Contains dialogue so nasty and stupid, you'd swear (right along with the characters) that the booker for Jerry Springer wrote it (Zombie did).

Trick or treat? Rob Zombie's "re-imagining" of John Carpenter's 1978 horror classic Halloween must sadly be consigned to the former category and it's not even a very interesting, suspenseful trick at that.

Everything Horror Should Be True, it lacks the baffling quiet mystery of the first, but Rob Zombie is the master of visceral horror, audio-visually, sexually, violently, animalistic non-sense...yet with the decency and intellectual capacity to explain WHY it's happening. This is what I want in a slasher flick, it's the top of the sub-genre, though there is more complex supernatural and psych horror out there.
I actually felt unease This movie was not bad at all. I mean, the sex scenes were not very vivid and long like other movies that are so weak that rely on nudity to grab the audience's attention. The suspense was actually gripping and the acting was very good. It was not perfect, but I felt really satisfied with it.
Meh First half was good, second half sucked. Good history on his early life. But then it became all the standard cliches like falling while walking, can't open a door, incompetent police, etc. Girl was ok I guess, but all she did for at least 20 min was cry and scream...it got old fast. Jaime Lee at least wasn't a feeble wreck. Won't watch sequel as preview is even more of her screaming and crying throughout. Edit: watched original again..this one is such a bad copy of it. Beginning was great addition. Ending was just a screaming, crying, whiny mess.
A good film, and doesn't deserve a negative review at all Just rented and saw it for the first time. And I really liked it, especially compared to the original. It brought the concept into the current time frame and social outlook. Michael Myers motivations being explored made more sense than the formless and evil Boogy man from Carpenter's vision done when the genre was a clean slate. As for criticism that after the first segment the film is unoriginal or boring, I have no clue what movie they were watching. Rob Zombie's movie I felt was fresh and entertaining.
Reimaged But Great I didn't like the second Rob Zombie Halloween, but this was great! I think I still prefer the original, but Rob wasn't trying to remake it, he was trying to reimage the franchise. I love the whole psychological aspect to it, you slowly saw him transform from a kid to a psychotic murderer, and I really liked that. You can tell that the plot is good if it makes you feel bad for Mike at times. And good acting. This is actually not bad, in plot I may prefer this, although I still believe originals are classics,
Original Halloween rules I own ALL of the Halloween movies and watch them regularly. Rob Zombie butchered a classic. Michael Myers is scary because you DON'T know why he is the way he is. This interpretation of the original movie was an epic fail.
Way better than expected Not only was this movie good, it was probably the best ''slasher'' movie I'd ever watched. Rob zombie did an amazing job actually telling a story and not just stringing a bunch of violence together. Another great surprise is what a solid actress his wife is as Michael Myers mother. This was genuinely a terrific suspense/thriller. Worth another viewing.
An excellent remake... And to add so much additional info on Michael Meyers made it that much better. I hope Rob Zombie continues to make horror.
DRoST It was probally one of the best if not the best halloween movies ive seen rob zombie put that sinister edge needed to complete the movie
Its jst okish This movie ruins th scaryness (pretty sure that's not a real word) of michael myers he's portrayed as a normal person instead of th boogeyman

The Mist
David Drayton (Thomas Jane) and his young son Billy (Nathan Gamble) are among a large group of terrified townspeople trapped in a local grocery store by a strange, otherworldly mist. David is the first to realize that there are things lurking in the mistÉdeadly, horrifying thingsÉcreatures not of this world. Survival depends on everybody in the store pulling togetherÉbut is that possible, given human nature? As reason crumbles in the face of fear and panic, David begins to wonder what terrifies him more: the monsters in the mistÑor the ones inside the store, the human kind, the people that until now had been his friends and neighbors? In this legendary tale of terror from master storyteller Stephen King, the thin veneer of civilization is stripped away, the masks are discarded, and the true horror is revealed as us.
1408 (Director's Cut)
Adapted from the terrifying short story by suspense master, Stephen King. Renowned horror novelist Mike Enslin (John Cusack) believes only in what he can see with his own two eyes. But after a string of bestsellers discrediting paranormal events in the most infamous haunted houses and graveyards around the world, he has no real proof of life...afterlife. But Enslin's phantom-free run of long and lonely nights is about to change forever when he checks into suite 1408 of the notorious Dolphin Hotel for his latest project, "Ten Nights in Haunted Hotel Rooms." Defying the warnings of the hotel manager (Samuel L. Jackson), the author is the first person in years to stay in the reputedly haunted room. Another bestseller may be imminent, but like many Stephen King heroes, first he must go from skeptic to true believer -- and confront his demons to survive the night. Connor Paolo (GOSSIP GIRL) stars as Martin, a young man traveling with only his taciturn mentor & a hardened fighter known simply as Mister as protection against this blasted earth in search of the rumoured safe haven of New Eden.
