David Edelstein
Steven Soderbergh continues his occasional practice of using actors as found objects in his perfectly enjoyable formula action-thriller Haywire.
Rafer Guzman
Mixed martial-arts star Carano puts major muscle, if minor acting ability, into this enjoyable action flick.
David Denby
Carano is strong, fast, relentless. She's not much of an actress yet, but Soderbergh hides her weaknesses well...
J. R. Jones
There's a good deal of pleasure to be had in the clockwork precision of her hand-to-hand combat, which Soderbergh often shoots in profile to showcase her wall-climbing backflips.
Eric D. Snider
Carano is nothing special as an actress - but darned if it matters when she's supported by a killer screenplay, a sharp cast, and Steven Soderbergh's unmistakably sly, mordant direction.
Stephen Whitty
If "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" was a fancy top-shelf cocktail, this is Polish vodka, neat.

Like The Limey, also written by Haywire scribe Lem Dobbs, it's the kind of film that hearkens back to lean-and-mean revenge movies like Get Carter and Point Blank.

Excellent espionage film.. There were quite a few pulse raising action scenes scattered throughout this fantastic, constantly on the move espionage film. From the very beginning I felt as if I was dropped right in the middle of these characters which are already engaged in a tense situation. Really loved how often things were said 'between the lines' during this film, rather than unnecessary dialog that would have otherwise cheapened that 'right there in the middle of it all' feeling for the viewer that is actually paying attention to all that is happening. Great film!
Great thriller For those who gave it 1 star, i am assuming you just aren't bright enough to understand it. Sorry it didn't have the glitz and Glam of a 100 million dollar summer movie. Low tech is very effective here. Awesome movie and unbelievable fight scenes.
What a shame Lead actress was beautifully wasted. Poorly made movie. Dialog was boring. Action was few and far between. I expected alot more considering some of the high priced names they hired. Don't rent.
Flawless Martial Arts Gina was amazing. This movie had its faults for sure. The music being top on the list. Gina's martial arts were so good though that they carried the movie. Impressive stunts, great acting but the music blew. The soundtrack in general blew. Put some better music and sound people on this and 5 stars for sure.
A good actioner if you know what you're looking at It's easy to mistake what's going on in this film or to miss the overall point director Steven Soderbergh was going for with this film. It is in many ways a deconstruction of the action movie model - an exercise in film making where the female protagonist is not coddled by the filmmaker, and the camera respects her competence by not chopping up the action scenes with multiple cuts. It even refuses the typical action palette, eschewing the typical desaturated blues and grays in favor of yellows (I'm not convinced this is overly successful, but it is interesting). Oscar-worthy performances you won't find here, but it is a decent, entertaining - if somewhat forgettable - film.
tpaege1 dont expect MP. i gave it 3 stars and thats about it, acting fair, suspense was good. plot contrived. Gina was pretty good and yes good on the eyes. but they could have done the storyline better for her. i think she deserved better. centurion is a better use of time and money.you'll be left let down.sorry Gina, good effort.
OMG WORST MOVIE EVER WTH were they thinking when this movie was produced. Bad acting, bad script, bad action scenes. Just bad, bad, bad. Rating this movie a zero would be complement. I hope Gina can use her earnings from this movie and take some acting classes. I guess Michael Douglas and Antonio Banderas had bills to pay. I cannot believe someone of their Hollywood status would sign on to make this POS.
half a star maybe Hay wire tries to be to be like a Kill Bill movie ,but does not come close. Story and acting is not awful, but its close enough to bad. Story very convoluted with no character development by the end of the movie one could care less for a sequel. Acting one would expect spectacular support but they came shooting blanks. The lead actress was boring ,but with a nice hair. Finally for woman that like to see woman beat up men the fighting choreography aspects were good.
i will never get back this two hours Really bad movie. Not even 'B' category, but 'Z'. Bad, boring, unclear script. Bad acting. Painfully slow. Action scenes are pathetic. It's quite a shame, as all actors (appart from the lead actress) are really good and showed up and acted brilliantly in other movies. It is really a waste of time.
I liked it I admit that I am easy to please when it come to movies but I thought this was a decent action flick. I like the technique they use of dropping you in the middle of the story and using flashbacks to get you up to date. I thought Gena Carano did a good job acting. I liked the fight scenes, they were a little more realistic than most movie fight scenes (the slow motion fight scenes in Sherlock Holmes for example). I liked the way she was able to work some MMA moves into the fights, using an arm bar to break Channing Tatum's arm. My only complaint is after getting punched in the face five or six times she only had a few scratches but it is a movie after all.
Way better than expected I fully anticipated a cheap movie full of big names to distract me from the lead actress' terrible acting but I was happily wrong. She's very believable in this roll and the plot (while mostly tried and true) isn't horribly predictable. Very fun movie.
Gina is great! From womens' mma to the silver screen Gina is a great act! There's tons of fun classic spy themed music and nice and just the right brutality for some quick fight scenes.
Ew. If I could have given 0 stars I would. It was hard to follow, pointless ending, and really R??? That could have easily been rated PG-13. Bad, bad, bad.
Terrible This is by far the worst movie I have ever seen. You keep waiting for something cool to happen but nothing does. Huge waste of time, save your self and don't watch this movie.
Horrible Terrible plot, very hard to follow. So bad that 3/4 thru watching I was getting very jealous of anyone who got shot in this movie!
boring Bad acting, bad script, bad fight scenes. Overall just a bad boring movie. I felt like I was watching a hone movie most of the time.
Ehh Well first off.. Whoever was in charge of music and sound effects is a moron..kind of ruined the movie...second.. The girl isnt THAT hot..i mean..she's ok.. Finally.. The plot didnt make a whole lot of sense.. Never really explained why she was so important to be killed... Do yourself a favor.. Dont rent this unless you're paying $1.00 @ a redbox or something...
Different style acting / fighting I enjoyed this film quite a bit. The absent shaky camera was pleasing and the "look-real" fighting was pretty authentic. However, I don't know if it is just me, but I still don't know the answer to this question: "why are they chasing her?"
Unbelievably Terrible It was terrible for some reason the critics reviews say it was good but its not one of the worst movies ever
