Cath Clarke
A keeper of a film, quietly dazzling
Liam Lacey
It's an odd, sad love story, combined with a meditation on technology as an accelerator of social loneliness. Not a small part of it seems to be an allegory of lonely guys and their fear of women.
Jessica Herndon
In a dark theater, surrounded by the wondrous world Jonze creates in Her, it's difficult to avoid getting emotional.
Rene Rodriguez
Her shares a lot of themes with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, another story about the difficulty of moving on from relationships that once seemed destined to last forever.
Tom Long
Delightfully entertaining, if slightly unnerving ...
Steven Rea
Her is a wistful, wonderful meditation on where we are and where we might be going.

Honest review here... First, I loved this movie. Those who didn't like this film just didn't need to. I thought this was going to be as fun s watching paint dry, but I was totally wrong and I'll tell you why. This movie can't be watched in a room full of distracting people or gadgets. It's a unique cinematic experience that should be seen in its entirety with an open mind. Flush out the negative (and positive) reviews you've read and prepare to come to your own conclusion about the film. Period.
Shocked..very shocked. Let me just say I thought this was going to be one of the stupidest movies of all time. I mean really? A dude dates his computer? That's weird. But I was so curious bc it is an academy award winner for a reason. So I found the time to watch it by myself for my own opinion. It is a good movie and I enjoyed it. Its like I could feel the man's emotions through the whole thing. But you should have an open mind when you watch it. And probably be by yourself or with a small group of people who won't spoil it.

Hipster Crap The only thing going for the film is the fact that (spoiler alert) it is a "study" into the futility that is replacing human interaction and intimacy with social media and the internet. If you want a film that explores the singularity, I would recommend Short Circuit, 2001, or War Games. If you want a film that focuses on real human emotion and the fragile state in which it exists, I would recommend watching Weekend, Eternal Sunshine and the Spotless Mind, or The Fountain.
Outstanding This movie in my opinion really captures a human heart at its weakest, where a man who has lost a woman he loved, falls in love with a operating system. Love isn't all about interaction, its really about attraction and I'm pretty sure that if there was a different operating system for everyone in the world, a personal one for everybody, and this operating system had the characteristics anybody liked, then everybody would at least feel something for the system. Just my opinion, and the movie was the best.

Amazing To be honest, when I first read the plot to this movie I laughed at how stupid the premise was. A guy falls in love with a computer operating system? Seriously? Then after 2 of my friends recommended I watch it, I gave it a shot. I'm very glad I did. All the actors gave great depth to their characters and Scarlett Johansson did an amazing job for never once being on camera. Plus it doesn't hurt that she has a very sexy voice. So at least give this movie a chance, I'm sure you'll be surprised as I was.

Best movie of 2013 I saw many, many movies in 2013. This one was the best, just a little bit better than The World's End and American Hustle. If Joquin Phoenix and The Acadamy didn't hate each other, he would have gotten at least nominated for best actor. I was happy to see Spike Jonze win best screenplay though.

Better than I expected I love the theme of this movie. Love is such a strange emotion and "Her" really shows that in all its beauty and pain. The first half starts off really good (with some surprising comedic elements!) However, the second half kind of drags on and it's like the writers didn't know what direction to take it. Regardless, it's at least worth the rental.
Her Love this movie. One of my favorites in a long time. For those who think or have told you its stupid and about a guy falling in love with an OS. they're missing so much. So much can be learned from this movie. About love, loneliness, life, seeing the world differently. ..Please give this movie a shot.....I don't know why this is listed as a Comedy.

Seemed like it was written by a socially awkward 20yr old. I watched this because some of my friends were talking about the futuristic social elements at the beginning of the film. I should have realized that since their iPhone users they don't know Android does 75% of that already. Anyways as for the film I felt like the characters interactions we're far immature for their age. Phoenix's character is socially awkward but it just seemed a bit to high school. Then there are several phone?? sex scenes which are just stupid . . "chock me with a dead cat" . . really? Yup this kinda sucked.
the best romantic comedy I've seen in a long time The characters and dialogue touches the heart with its sincerity in being real about how we break up and what happens during that interim where we find ourselves sad, hopeful and hopeless all at the same time. The futuristic take on creating a relationship with a computer puts what matters, i.e. feelings, thoughts, emotions, in front. Stupid sex jokes won't be found here.

AWESOME MOVIE!!! I have been familiar with the work of Jonze since he was a photographer for skateboarding mags. This movie is a great example of what makes him so brilliant. The movie sounds like it would be stupid. DO NOT let the summary fool you, IT IS AN AMAZING MOVIE!! The movie really is about the ability to love in all of its forms. I LOVED IT!!!

Amazing & deep. This is one of those movies that comes along every once in awhile that doesn't attempt to fall into the typical cookie-cutter mold that so many movies try to do, but instead, tells a story that makes you wonder "what if" & makes it believable. Very endearing & entertaining. Great acting & an awesome story.

Intriguing concept turned into garbage. The artificially intelligent OS idea could have been entertaining if it were developed in any depth at all. Except it wasn't. Hollywood dumbed this into a trite love story with zero to contribute otherwise. Absolutely nothing remotely intellectual beyond the initial concept. JP snivels with great skill. For the guys, it's only SJ's voice hah. Left me feeling like I spent an hour and a half arguing with a woman about our relationship. Oscar noms for this film? Ludicrous.

Ingenious world created for discussion on marriage and other relationships I loved the movie because it could have sucked with cliches and instead both Her and our protagonist were well drawn characters with believable jobs and personal interests as well as their own feelings, and how they interacted showed good writing and dialogue. I was engaged with them as individuals trying to be their best to be honest and proactive with issues like boundaries and risks. l then followed the evolution of their relationship, which was a revelation with a surprise development that seemed inevitable in some respect. Some great conversations, like j. Delpy and e. Hawke.; good music; and lively futuristic characters interfacing on home video show/games played interactively on futuristic screens within his apartment home in a Big City. Four stars plus. Why couldn't your star system to represent that.
Real Feelings You feel very emotionally attached to all of the characters. You feel how they feel and it opens up a new perspective. The movie itself is a masterpiece. It brings a whole new meaning to forbidden love. It's a movie that makes you think. It is so beautifully placed together. It goes beyond human comprehension literally since Samantha ( a wonderfully developed character ) is not human. She feels human emotions but must learn them through Mr. Theodore Twombly. The movie is just splendid and is wonderful.

An unconventional love story that makes you think... and deeply reflect Do you love your smart phone? Er, not LOVE love it. Or maybe...? I mean, is it not often the last thing you touch before bed, and the first thing you touch when you awake? Do you talk to it? Do you feel lost without it? And, on a different note, have you ever fallen in love with someone that you haven't yet met? All you have is their words and their voice. And yet... perhaps that love felt... real? "Her," then, may require suspension of some disbelief, sure, but likely not as much as you might initially suspect. It showcases a whirlwind romance that is genuinely real... and raises questions about love, friendship, and relationships that are also very, very real. I also appreciated that this future wasn't the stereotypical everything-is-evil-and-clinical-and-sterile future with antiseptic hallways and sleek outfits. There were no evil overlords, no evil megacorps. I instantly felt at peace with the surroundings, and was thus able to concentrate on the characters and the questions they raised and struggled with. My only quibble is with the ending. I felt it was a little rushed, a tad predictable, and slightly disappointing given the movie's earlier pacing.

Fantastic but very sad movie I found the story in this movie to be wonderful but this movie obviously isn't for everyone. It is a very sad and depressing film. Besides that this movie is definitely worth watching thanks to the incredible cast, acting, story, script and scenery. This film was definitely my favourite movie of 2013 and I can strongly recommend it to anyone even remotely interested in the film.
