Entertaining Fans of the previous Ip Man movies may be sad that Donnie Yen is not continuing in the title role, but actor Anthony Wong Chau-Sang gives a steady performance of the mature martial arts master. The pace is slower, with plenty of voice overs to fill in the narrative gaps and give audiences historical context. As for dialogue, well,... it's a martial arts movie... You'll probably guess what someone will say before they do. Overall, enjoyable performances and a great story. Photography is generally excellent.

Subtitles do work You just have to turn on closed captioning. Other ip man movies didn't require this. This makes it so streaming over chromecast doesn't let subtitles work. Movie itself was really good. Not as much action as part 1 & 2 though.

It's ok. 1 & 2 were way better! I'm a little bit disappointed. I had high expectations for this one but I was disappointed sad to say. It is way overpriced and plain and simple it was not a good ending to the ip man trilogy.

Fyi this is in Chinese Needs subtitles which don't work over Chromecast!? Both bits of information would have been nice to know BEFORE I bought this.

This movie was well done too. I know that Donnie Yen was in the first two but this one gave it a bit more perspective about his life. It all came together in this film

Not the real saga This one is not related to the other movies with Donnie Yen (there are actually three movies); this one was boring.

Ip Man
Behind ever great man there lies a teacher, and this was certainly true of Bruce Lee, who claimed as his mentor a martial arts expert named Ip Man (1893-1972). A genius of Wushu (or the Chinese martial arts school), Ip Man (Donnie Yen) grew up in a China nearly ripped to pieces by racial hatred, nationalistic strife and warfare. He rose like a phoenix above these ashes, however, courtesy of his participation in matches against various Wushu masters and kung-fun warriors - ultimately training martial arts icons such as Bruce Lee. This biopic from director Wilson Yip dramatizes Ip's life story.
IP Man 2
Newly arrived in Hong Kong, martial arts instructor Ip Man (Donnie Yen) encounters stiff opposition when he begins teaching the Wing Chun fighting style. Filmed in a range of stunning locations that include the snow-swept landscapes of Northeast China and the subtropical South, THE GRANDMASTER features virtuoso performances by some of the greatest stars of contemporary Asian cinema.

Their baby-faced masks make them terrifying; their underground lair untraceable.
And now, they're plotting a double-scam - a heroic rescue and a kidnapping mission - that will make them legends...if anyone gets out alive.
