This documentary version of Jodorowsky's "Dune" is probably more entertaining than what Hollywood would have done to it, with a clearer message: Our lives are like sands though an hourglass, so...
Ann Hornaday
A deeply moving testament to single-minded, indefatigable commitment of creative vision and to an almost spiritual ability to let that vision go, thereby allowing it to exist in the world in an...

Jodorowsky is a mesmerizing presence in director Frank Pavich's engrossing picture. He was 84 when much of it was shot.
Rene Rodriguez
Jodorowsky's Dune gives you a good sense of what might have been, and judging by what we see, the picture might have accomplished what the director ultimately intended: "To mutate young minds."
Tirdad Derakhshani
What an extraordinary dream it could have been.
Tom Long
It leaves you wondering about how many artists are working on such wild dreams these days, and hoping it's more than you think.

Incredible Insight I very entertaining insight into the creative process. The film explores what one person can do with a vision and enough ambition and how trying to bring life to that vision can come into conflict with the money making machine. Any fan of science fiction films of the last 40 years, or of creative films in general, needs to see this.

Talks a good game. If you like Dune you may find this entertaining but it feels like a ton of hype with no evidence that the movie would have been anything more than a flop. Jodorowsky got early fame for his art-house shocker films but realistically they were amateurish and carried little more social impact than a young child hurling profanities. Dune would have ended up the same. Critics who are dazzled by abstraction would have declared it a masterpiece and everyone else would have called it sensationalistic crap.

Riveting Anyone with a creative bone in their body will find this film engrossing. I wished I could watch this Dune, even as i was watching the documentary about how it wasn't made and probably never will be. Even though it sounds weird and maybe not 100% to my tastes. This guy just has so much passion.
Fantastic! Never realized a movie of the book had been in the works before the 1984 movie . Having read all of Frank Herbert's original series, then the prequels and legends written years later by his son and co author. I am fascinated and would surely have seen the film had it been done. The greatest film that never was perhaps. So much of Science fiction has pulled threads from those books. It is truly a shame that no studio would take it on even though they realized it had tremendous potential. Jodorowsky had all ready done everything for it conceptualized it story-boarded found the artists to give it its visual style and cast it. Unfortunately Hollywood like any other big business looks and the bottom line, money.

Documentary is probably better than the movie would have been I would have loved to watch the movie he saw in his head. It seems like it was one of the most avant garde, psychedelic sci fi movies ever. If it were made back then,, I don't see how it would have been possible to pull off his vision. It is cool to get a glimpse into his creative and passionate mind.

It Might Get Loud
Rarely can a film penetrate the glamorous surface of rock legends. It Might Get Loud tells the personal stories, in their own words, of three generations of electric guitar virtuosos -- The Edge (U2), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), and Jack White (The White Stripes). It reveals how each developed his unique sound and style of playing favorite instruments, guitars both found and invented. Concentrating on the artist's musical rebellion, traveling with him to influential locations, provoking rare discussion as to how and why he writes and plays, this film lets you witness intimate moments and hear new music from each artist. The movie revolves around a day when Jimmy Page, Jack White, and The Edge first met and sat down together to share their stories, teach and play. 2009 Steel Curtain Pictures, LLC. Tim's Vermeer
Tim's Vermeer, directed by Teller of Penn & Teller fame. Produced by Teller's stage partner Penn Jillette and Farley Ziegler, the film follows Tim Jenison, a Texas based inventor, as he attempts to solve one of the greatest mysteries in all of art: How did 17th century Dutch Master Johannes Vermeer ('Girl with a Pearl Earring') manage to paint so photo-realistically, 150 years before the invention of photography? Jenison's epic research project ultimately succeeds as he uses 17th century technology -- lenses and mirrors -- to develop a technique that might have been used by Vermeer, supporting a theory as extraordinary as what he discovers. Spanning a decade, Jenison's adventure takes him to Delft, Holland, where Vermeer painted his masterpieces; on a pilgrimage to the North coast of Yorkshire to meet artist David Hockney; and eventually even to Buckingham Palace, to see the Queen's Vermeer.

This time it faces a formidable new foe in Orga (aka Giant Alien Millennian), a gigantic, lethal creature that has slowly transmuted from a UFO believed to be dormant for 6,000 years. © 1999 Toho Co., Ltd.
