Taal is a classic romantic movie about Manav (Akshaye Khanna), a young and dazzling son of an NRI billionaire (Amrish Puri), who comes to Chamba (Himachal Pradesh) for the first time with his family. Indian Military Intelligence assigns their agent, Vikram Sabharwal, to travel to Kashmir.There he is to locate the person(s), behind the violence under the guise of press reporter, Gul Jahangir. Once there, he begins his investigation by visiting highly sensitive areas such as Jama Masjid, Dardpura Village and Rainawari Chowk. He is accompanied by a tailor, Char Chinar, who sells uniforms to both militants and the under paid military soldiers. Vikram meets up with Aziza Abbas Ansari, and her mentor, Haji Sayyed Shah, an aspiring political leader, Aatif Hussain. It is after these meetings that he will conclude who is behind the extremism in this beautiful yet 'most dangerous place on Earth'.

Chhotu is an intelligent boy about 12 years of age from Rajasthan. Born into poverty, he is pawned off by his mother to work at a roadside food stall under the somewhat kind owner, Bhati. The mother says repeatedly "School is not in our destiny". Once, he sees the then President of India, Dr A.P.J Abdul Kalam's address on television. He learns that Kalam was a poor boy like him, who sold newspapers. Inspired by a message from President Kalam, that anyone can change his or her destiny by education Chhotu starts studying on his own whenever possible. The movie is about how there is no such destiny and such supposed destinies can be changed by one's own hard work.

The film revolves around the court-martial of a Muslim officer, Javed Khan, in the Indian army, for shooting his commanding officer and is set against the backdrop of the Kashmir Conflict in Northern India. Major Siddhant Chaudhary (Rahul Bose) is assigned to be Javed Khan's defence lawyer, and the film depicts his investigations in the circumstances leading up to the shooting. The film is loosely inspired from A Few Good Men.

Post the humiliation, Bhoothnath decides to redeem himself and come back to scare a bunch of kids. Bhoothnath's search for kids brings him to Akhrot, a slum kid who is also the only person who can see him. Together they agree to help each other and their friendship sees them get involved in a cause that is bigger than they had ever imagined. To move ahead they will need to take on one of the country's most powerful and corrupt politician Bhau. The Lok Sabha elections are nearing and Bhau's victory is a mere formality, or is it? In a world, where a common man is afraid of politics, will a common man's ghost overcome his fear to stand up for what's right and fight against injustice? Bhoothnath Returns is an entertaining tale of good against evil, weak against powerful, past against future.
