Powerful Concept But Overdone I see the concept that this man served the White House for over 30 years with a story that many felt deserved to be told. Unfortunately, there was no story. He was a butler and that was it. The film tries to add life by piecing together the parallels of the Civil Rights Movement with his experience, it was a miss. The story claims to be an account of Eugene Allen's White House service however it was muddied by so many embellishments and creative fabrications it made the film an account of the Black experience not of his tenure as a White House Butler. Poor acting also accompanied the undeveloped story. This is a disappointment due to the successful actors in the film, however, they can only do so much with a poor script. I wanted to like this film and feel what others felt, the emotions never emerged. Perhaps Oprah should have had him on her show for a segment to share his story of dedication and service. That was all he had to share. I would suggest waiting for this film to surface on Netflix. I have buyers remorse regarding the rental. It is slow and how someone could have sat in the theater to see this without sleeping baffles me.

One family's unique and heroic fight from brutal slavery through the Civil Rights, as seen through the wonderful acting of Forrest Whittaker. Beautifully acted and directed.

I am disgusted by white people. Are we all blind? Are white people blind? This movie shows the brutality and cruelness of white people. If I was born when that was going on I would have risked my life to change it all. Its stupid. I love the movie but there are parts in it that made me very disappointed. God created us with the same guts on the inside. We have the same bones and the same brain. The only difference is the color. Get over yourself. You should be ashamed of killing innocent people. Otherwise, great movie. Bravo :)

Good but Not Great The Butler has almost everything needed, great acting, good time period, and story, but it doesn't always work. Thee acting is great, but not every character works out perfectly, the time is good with movies but they cramped a lot in a small time and the story is good, but mainly when it focuses on the White House. It loses its effectiveness when at home.

Beautiful This a is such a great movie. It hurt to watch just as much as it gave me hope and inspiration. I haven't seen a movie that told the journey from the days of black oppression to today as moving at this film. I hope that it will inspire some enough to take up the struggle for equality that persists to this day, not just for the black people, but all peoples until we have realized the dream of an America of true equality for all races, colors, and creed. There is still yet a war to win to secure freedom and equality for all.

So amazing and sweet Me and some of my other fellow youth from church went to the movies and saw this very movie a few months ago, it was so emotional and inspiring to us, it helped us understand what a bit of what it meant to be a black and what we had surffered and endured through back In those times and that we are blessed to be living In the world we live in today, a world where we are not always treated and judged by the color of our skin.

Awesome! Great story! Great man! Great acting! Maybe it's because this time-frame was more her generation, this part was MADE for Oprah!! For me, her acting was flawless alongside sizzling with Terrence! Our country has much to be proud of & just as much to be ashamed of. Change has come but will only improve with individual active determination.
