It's very good, but that's not the point. It's necessary.

'Lincoln' works as a snapshot of a great man without ever slipping into a portrait of sainthood.

One of the best movies I've ever seen!!! This movie humanizes the great Abraham Lincoln and shows just how he kept the Union together in harsh times. Abraham Lincoln has and always will be one of the best President's the US ever had, and Daniel Day-Lewis acted a masterpiece!!

Good acting - overall poor execution This could have been epic. Instead, it focused on the last four months of this great man's life, yet I hardly learned anything about him. This should have been called "Abolition" or "Ammendment 13" to be more accurate, but not Lincoln. Spielberg should've done a trilogy and ended with this movie and everything would have been cool. Instead, it was just meh.
wow This is by far a supurb movie.Anyone who does'nt like it is either racist, or very unintelligent. Its called lincoln because this was his supreme agenda of his entire presidency and life that is. Spielburg was trying to show what his overall effect/roll he played in this great nations long road to absolute equality of all mankind. If its to boring go watch honey boo boo..the downfall of american society and economic misuse. nuff said

If only CSPAN was this entertaining One of the best films of last year. Tommy Lee Jones performance shines the screen when his character must deny the very thing he has fought for his entire life. Daniel Day Lewis as always portrays his character so well you forget that he truly is only Daniel Day Lewis and not Bill The Butcher, Daniel Plainview, or even Abraham Lincoln. 5 stars all the way.

well done I don't know how accurate it was, but everything was done well and I really liked it. It focuses on the major accomplishment's of Lincoln as he led through such difficult times, particularly the months leading up to the 13th amendment and the ending of the war. Narrowing the scope of time to these crucial days helped the film develop the characters and present more details. It it also brought in an entertaining and thoughtful interpretation of the smaller details in Lincoln's personal life. These portrayals of some background events bring a unique perspective to the struggles which surrounded his accomplishments. Good casting.

Astounding movie. Daniel Day Lewis *is* Lincoln. This was probably the best movie I've seen in at least a decade. Daniel Day Lewis' performance as Lincoln was a sight to behold, and the history comes alive. You need to come to this movie understanding what you're going to get, though. The focus of the movie is very narrow. It's not about winning the Civil War. It's not even really about the fight to free the slaves. The movie focuses rather specifically on passing the 13th amendment, and how hard Lincoln pushed for it. The Union's progress in the Civil War was an essential part of getting the 13th amendment passed, but that's the only context you see the Civil War in, in this movie. The movie is based on "Team of Rivals", the book by Doris Kearns Goodwin. As such, the history is very well-researched and presented. There are a few historical snags, like the fact that Lincoln's face was never on a 50-cent piece - it was on a 50-cent note, starting in 1869, and the fact that some of the states in the movie didn't vote the way they did in real life. But overall, the history is accurate. You need to see this movie. Definitely a great 4th of July pick. :)
Excellent!!! Anyone who can't understand the time and effort put into making this movie is idiotic. It is just that... a movie. Of course it's not going to be 100% accurate. Otherwise it would just be a documentary. Things are added for dramatic effect. Get over yourselves and realise that no matter what you say, it won't affect people who do have good taste. I recommend for everyone who wants a great movie to enjoy!

Heroic? We live in a culture which really desperately loves to tear our heroes down, like when Tiger Woods and Lance Armstrong were torn apart only weeks after being on the top of their sports. This feels a lot like this. Yes, it is important to remember that out heroes were humans, with human needs and feelings. What makes less sense to me is why this movie seemed to take some of the inherent goodness out of Honest Abe.
Perfect Wonderful movie fantastic actors (beautiful horses) I didn't buy movie or rent it off play store but I got the movie from red box. But I still love the movie one of the best. I like how they try to save slaves and lincoln looks like he just came through time every thing looks so real its amazing you need to watch it buy it rent it and if you don't you'll regret it really you will

Worth the wait... I first heard that Steven Spielberg was set to start this project way back in 2008, with a scheduled release date to mark the celebration of 200th birthday of Abraham Lincoln in 2009. But sadly other projects began. Casting changes were made such as Liam Neeson deciding to turn down the starting role and Daniel Day Lewis signing on to portray the historic 16th president. But finally it was released in November 2013, and I have to admit I saw it 3 times in the theater and enjoyed it each time. Watch this!

Typical It's historical as far as you have historic figures. That's about it. I had to fight from falling asleep through long rambling dialog. Shows how the bar of entertainment has dropped. This was just an overhyped movie that has way too many people saying it was good then everyone else follows like lemmings (see ID4)

A Must See Daniel Day-Lewis plays Lincoln and gives us a performance second to none. This movie has so many seasoned actors it's impossible to name them all here. Even if you don't like historical movies, this will show you how the Republicans abolished slavery not the Democrats! The 13 amendment to our Constitution in a format we can all understand and appreciate from an era in which most people were still scared of the truth.
