The conceit may sound constricting, but Liman (like Harold Ramis before him) gets exceptional mileage out of it, presenting his ever-revolving tale with visual style, narrative velocity, and a wonderful dose of dark humor.
David Haglund
This is a movie about Tom Cruise working very, very hard to please the world.
Rene Rodriguez
Why do invading extra-terrestrials always bring with them the single thing that can wipe them out? Couldn't they have hid it on Jupiter or something?
Wesley Morris
Ultimately, this is a two-hour video game. But the filmmakers play it well.
Peter Rainer
Cruise is better than he's been in a while because he damps down his usual all-intensity-all-the-time MO. He's best here when his character seems the most scared.
Geoff Pevere
All in all, a perfectly superior example of industrially fortified Hollywood fun, and as good a guarantee as Doug Liman can offer that we haven't seen the last of him yet.

I loved this movie...it was one of the summer's best This movie deserved to do so much better than it did. It is crazy that transformers and TMNT made so much money when something like this fails. The story is amazing and well executed. The action was of the charts good. Do watch this! Rent it! I'm going to buy it.

Fantastic! Unexpectedly smart and funny; not a Cruise cliche I loved this movie. Cruise plays a cowardly, cringing major, far removed from his typical stoic hero. The pacing, especially the comic timing, is fabulous. I laughed out loud in the theater throughout. The trailers made this look so boring, but it's actually in a totally different class than your average summer action flick. Very underrated and definitely recommended.

Not just another Ground Hog day, but... This movie isn't just a re-hash of Ground Hog day. It will go down as one of Tom Cruises best performances and it is right there with Ground Hog day as one of the best films ever made. The concept is brilliant. The acting is superb. And the content is amazingly presented in a story that not only wows you multiple times but also keeps you laughing throughout (surprisingly works well in this sci-fi epic).
Why on earth... ...did this movie not make a killing at the box office?? Those saying that this is only a sci-fi version of Groundhog Day are doing this film a serious injustice. There is a great story, the action is thrilling, and there is even a subtle love story intertwined. Yes, the repetition of the day can seem a little excessive in the middle of the movie but is meant to convey that he had lived this day hundred of times. GREAT movie - not only worth watching but now a part of my permanent movie library.
Best action movie of the year. Emily Blunt has always been one of my favorite actresses and I thought it was great to see her step out of her type cast and into an action role. She delivers flawlessly opposite seasoned explosion scene vet Tom Cruise for an intriguing and good old fashion cheek clenching action flick. Worth watching once even if you don't care for these actors simply because of the quality of the cinematography. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. :)

Great Story+Awesome Effects+Perfect Acting= This incredible film. Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt mesh seamlessly in this Sci-Fi masterpiece. Bill Paxson rocks as usual (Game Over man!). The special effects are top notch, yet never over the top. The story keep you interested and on the edge of your seat the whole time. If you like Sci-Fi, Action, and movies that make you think afterward, then this one is for you! This movie is a keeper. Enjoy!
Actually quite good This movie was actually quite good. I enjoyed seeing Tom Cruise as the scumbag redeem himself. Bill Paxton was great as the staff sergeant. "You're American right? No… Sir I'm from Kentucky.". & "What were you thinking?" I re-watched the truck scene repeatedly laughing out loud at Tom's fate. I thoroughly enjoyed Tom dying repeatedly ...
not bad as a movie but. as a stand alone movie its not bad but when you compare it to the original light novel it fall flat. First off the suit and weapon design look silly i mean its just modern day weapon strapped to the arms of a clunky exoskeleton and was clearly done so you could see the actors. The mimics however are a awesome design. I also feel the ending was way too happy and the light novel had a much better one.

Second best movie of the year I'm only giving it 4 stars cause my number 1 movie is a 5 star. But this is a very good movie. Better than all other movies that came out last year combined. This movie mixed great action, special effects, story, acting, emotion, and comedy. Yes I said comedy its actually very funny. Very highly recommended

Great movie!! I was surprised that I liked this movie so much, as I generally think Tom Cruise is a tool, (along with Mel Gibson, and, though I hate to say it, Harrison Ford). The story moved along well and wasn't repetitive, despite the premise; there was progression in the character or plot even in scenes where the action repeated. Humorous and exciting. Definitely worth seeing.
